Looks like a perfect trip and a beautiful area with great summer time temps. Thanks for taking us along.

It really was. Andy had been to Dolly Sods a few times in poor weather (rain/slog/snow) and he said it could be pretty miserable. We lucked out - and I was very impressed with the place overall

Enjoyed the 2 part Sods saga. Fellow Columbus Ohio hiker here. Also did that area 2x in June /July, but hiked the Roaring Planes and Prong trails. Micro climate after micro climate. The plant life is similar to parts of Canada and Maine in this rare boreal climate zone in the south. June the laurel was in full bloom, with ferns waist high. July had bountiful Blueberry fields like you found also. Also giant timber rattle snake on the rocky rim, deer, grouse, Etc... Camped there many times but never had quite the overnight deer parties you guys had. By the way, on the mosquitos, we had zero too. I've read that they do not prefer the cool and altitude. In June we did have a cloud park on us the last day and it rained for 14 hours. Streams got pretty crazy. Took the forest road back to our car. Drove down to the main roads - no rain. -Maybe I'll run into you guys at a CBus brew pub or in Wayne NF.

Good video! There are a lot of nice trails in my home state of Pennsylvania but Dolly Sods really looks like a special place.

We are jealous of PA - you have a ton of great stuff there. We are probably going to hit up the laurel highlands sometime very soon.

You guys have, absolutely, too much fun. All you need is one or two of Joe robinette's Canadian beers. Always take care and have as much fun as the law allows. 🤗

Nice video! Always wanted to setup next to a stream like that. Nice weather, few bugs. You make me wish I had a brother around my age. Instant hammock/hike buddy! Keep up the great videos!

Just stumbled across your channel. I really like how you guys trade off filming and narrating your trip. Looking forward to seeing the Zpack Packs on the next trip :^)

The birds you all flushed was probably grouse or wood cocks..we don't have hardly any quail anymore.. quail are in more of a farm country habitat

Pretty sure thats a milk snake in the opening of your video. They will vibrate their tail in the leaves to sound like a rattle. Also, i did a 3 day trip there at the end of June and had an unnerving run in with a large bear on Big Stonecoal near where you camped the first night. Nice work on the video. I enjoyed it.
@SchillBrothersOutdoors7 жыл бұрын
Yeah we were trying to look at the footage (after the fact) and see whether it was a rattler or not. We got out of there promptly just in case. If you check out our first video, one of the people (terry bragun) also saw black bears in the field on top of stonecoal. We didn't see any, just tons of deer.

Milk snake obviously,,,,only thing close would be eastern diamondback but they aren't in WV. I doubt copperhead would be that high up.
@james.kayaks5 жыл бұрын
@@chatanaya1 There are timber rattlesnakes in WV, not eastern diamondbacks.

That 3rd site you stayed at by the creek is very close to the Bear Rocks trail head. That is the trail head to start from in my opinion for a couple reasons. First is you can take your water going in and you'll have plenty of water on the top section until you make it down to Big Stonecoal. Once there as you know there's plenty of water everywhere. 2nd, especially since you hammock, all your sites on the lower section is hammock friendly. I love that place.

Just started watching your videos, great stuff guys! One questions, what are these breakfast skillets you refer to?
@SchillBrothersOutdoors7 жыл бұрын
We buy the large (#10 can) of this. Much cheaper than buying individual meals. www.amazon.com/Mountain-House-Breakfast-Skillet-Can/dp/B003Z45XVE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1502151105&sr=8-1&keywords=mountain+house+breakfast+skillet+can
