William, thanks a ton for watching! You're telling me though. I fully expected to see at least 3-4 bears at a minimum. Especially with the time of the year and what not. Mother nature and the wind though was quite intense for severallll days and I think it impacted how much the bears were out and about rummaging around.

I’m glad your video popped up on Reddit, the stories and views make my long day at work go to the back of my mind . Btw I would love to be apart of the 3000 mile journey they took but I imagine there would be a lot of money involved lol . Keep up the great content !

Great video! I'm the cat you were chatting with on reddit. One thing about glacier that differentiates my other trips were the amount of wildlife we saw. Rams, goats a moose and even a grizzly with cubs when we were on the sun road. Also how awesome was having outhouses available lol.
@tweedytreks2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for stopping by 🐈! Haha Agreed though. The wildlife opportunities are immense. We didn't see a ton, but we did see plenty. I think we would have seen a lot more too without such intense wind. Yes! Real solid outhouses in the woods. Big win. Appreciate you watching! Lot more to come this year.

@@tweedytreks What are some things you learned on the trip? Anything you would 100% do differently next time or on your next adventure? Interested in what you and your friends learned.
@tweedytreks2 жыл бұрын
@@joeglover7049 Excellent question. Loaded question though since there was different takeaways for all of us of course. I think the one thing that was a consensus understanding was that this trip really brought to life HOW LONG you can go out in the woods. Not only how far can you hike each day kind of thing, but how long are you comfortable just being out in the woods each day. For me, I could have done another week or even longer if I had enough food of course. I'd have to resupply of course. I don't mind the consistent 15 mile days either. Hell, this year, I'm going to try to do a full marathon, but while backpacking. For my buddy Mason though, he learned that 3-5 days is his sweet spot. He has a small family and so he missed them greatly by the tail end of the trip. For Colin, this duration was probably just right for a 'long trip'. This trip was also unequivocally the worst wind I've ever experienced in over 40 backpacking trips, and it wasn't close. You don't think of wind as a huge danger, but it can be. Had there been rain on day 5 when the wind was the worst, we would have been in a legit hypothermia situation. You must respect mother nature and plan accordingly. We were up at 430 am that day to make sure we got up and over the pass as early as possible and to the next camp as early as possible. That same day, It rained from about 230pm - 9am the next day and pretty heavily too. We got to camp on day 5 at 230pm so we were setting everything up in heavy rain and wind. Had we left camp that morning at a normal time we would have had to traverse the pass in truly awful conditions and it could have been bad. The next day it turned to light snow too. So, it was just a healthy reminder that mother nature dictates what you can and can't do in the backcountry. Don't fight it. Plan for and with it, and then you can accomplish a lot. I'm very very seasoned at backpacking though, so I can't say there really was anything I'd absolutely do differently next time. I'd love to have better weather of course, but that's always a gamble and you can't do these kind of trips just whenever you want due to the permit system. I'm already planning another trip to go back up and through the wind/smoke effected area and around the other side so I can relive that space. A 70 mile journey. Stick around though Joe. I'll have lots of additional video this year. I appreciate your question. It really made me think about it and thanks for your support.

Appreciate your support, I really do. This was an absolutely breathtaking trip. Best I've done yet and that's saying something. Lots more of this to come too. Just got approve to book an early permit for the wonderland land trail around Mt. Rainier as of today. I'd highly recommend this route though if you're looking to do something big. Even with some atrocious weather, the views were unexplainably good every day.

Beautiful hike and nicely shot! Would love to get to Glacier. A little hesitant to solo with Grizzlies around. I did the Beartooths solo and while I did not have any encounters it creeped me out a bit!
@tweedytreks11 ай бұрын
Thanks again. This is one of the best treks I’ve ever done. Easily. While Grizz are a legit concern, I wouldn’t let it hold you back. It’s such a popular area and you’d only be the 300th person each day soloing (just to use an arbitrary number)..but really there’s ample solo hikers. Being in grizz country is inherently eerie though. It should be ya know. But you know all the right things to do. I don’t think Glacier has had an attack since the 80s if I remember right. Glacier is a place you must see. There isn’t anything like it. Extremely unique landscape. Plan it!

@@lenbackus7198 I've been in a lot of bad wind scenarios...nothing compared to those two days. Easily 100+ mph gusts up on the ridge, day 5 for us. I don't blame you one bit for leaving. Thu-hikers and all were hopping off during that duration. Heading back to Glacier a couple times this year and I CANNOT wait. Hope you have a great year Len!
