Spectacular hiking. (Hi to Catherine ☺️). CBS just did a segment on how low Lake Powell has gotten and how that has exposed Golden Cathedral. Most people are thrilled to be able to see it again, but the years of water at the base has deposited tons and tons of sand inside it. It will be heavily visited this year, I’m sure, as more people learn about it. So glad you got to see and experience it. And as another commentator said, I pray no one defaces the petroglyphs. They are priceless.

Wow...Golden Cathedral is spectacular. I bet it is amazing with water coming through the 'windows', although I don't know that I'd want to be there to see it! Love this video!

"Concretions" at 1:47. Formed when water percolates through sandstone and silt comes out of solution. Later the sandstone is worn away, leaving perfect spheres.

There are numerous rock art panels located in those desert canyons along side rivers and creeks with long zig-zagging lines or groups of lines that appear to represent the canyon/creek/river it resides by. You are certainly not alone with your theory. There are archeologists who side with that theory too.

Could you explain your route more clearly? I found Hole in the Rock Road, Golden Cathedral and Neon Canyon on Google Maps, but the route wasn't obvious. You stopped at Golden Cathedral and didn't go to Neon Canyon, correct? Thanks.

From Hole in the Rock Road we a spur road to Egypt Trailhead and headed down Fence Canyon to meet up with the Escalante. We hiked about .7 miles bottom up from Neon Canyon. Heading in from Neon Canyon from top down is a very complex canyoneering route.

From the Escalante river Neon canyon, “dead ends” at Golden Cathedral. Some friends of mine backpacked down there in the mid 90s and on the second day decided to check out what was going on up the slot canyon…24 yr old dumb luck (and no internet). Hell of a surprise. Been back twice since. The off trail hiking up and out of the canyon to the high plains is outstanding! Last hike 20 + years ago we found a dinosaur print in the sandstone
