Wondering if you or anyone you know has tried growing sprouts on trail? A couple of online dehydrated meal companies I have looked at advertise seeds and pouches to hang on your pack. Seems like an interesting prospect for some fresh food on trail.

I agree with you about carrying cheese on the trail unrefrigerated. I did that for years before reading about how it needs to be refrigerated, ignored that and carried on. One thing I do when deciding on trail foods is think back on what folks carried hundreds of years ago. They did carry dried meats but believe me if they came across a block of cheese they carried that as well.

People may forget that during winter camping (temps below 40 at night) you can take any refrigerated food you want. If it warms up during the day just surround your food bag with insulated gear (quilts and extra layers). If it's below freezing you can even take frozen food.
