Cool place to fish in the middle of the city. One way I have used to prevent roll overs with whopper plopper type baits is to attach a swivel to the lure with a split ring. The topwater bite was hot!

That's an interesting idea I will have to try it. This was a pretty good topwater bite. I look forward to a few years when some of the smaller ones start getting bigger. Thanks for watching!

Both great but for me I land more with the revolver and usually bigger bass but love both.

This is almost the exact same as the first youtube video I ever made, whopper plopper vs a knockoff! Definitely use a barrel swivel with a whopper plopper. Also, I noticed if even a tiny bit of weeds get inside the plopper it will jam up the tail and make the whole bait spin. You can clean out the tail with a toothpick and I spray WD40 in there to keep it rotating well.

Ya, I did a similar one as well in my early days of filming. I think these comparison videos have been beaten to death at this point but it was a fun experiment. I will try the barrel swivel idea. I've been meaning to put some WD40 on my WP90 that is finicky - I will try it. Thanks!

I would love to see ypu test out the Smithwick ‘Devil’s Horse’. Its such a cool bait

This is actually the first time I've heard of that lure. I had to look it up but it looks cool. I will have to try it out sometime. Thanks for watching!

@@BackroadsAngling That's an old lure that every serious bass fisherman should have. Lol

Does using reel oil on these baits to keep them operating nicely / correctly affect how attractive it is to the fish? Can they smell it? Do they like it lol?
@BackroadsAngling6 ай бұрын
I've had some people say that using WD40 will free up the tail to spin better. I had the same thought because it does have a very strong smell. I think that since they usually react so quickly to the plopper as it's going by that they wouldn't have time to be turned off by the smell but it is an interesting question.

One thing I’ve learned from using most lures is that the original will always avail. The O.G whopper plopper is a little more expensive but is way more worth it than any Googan or berkley.

I've tried to find a prop bait that I like better than the original WP but so far it's still my favorite. I think the choppo is pretty decent though. Thanks for watching!

@@BackroadsAnglingno problem man! Oh and by the way, the whopper plopper rolls over usually because there’s weeds or other things in between the tail and the body. (Lures like the whopper plopper roll over because the tail is plopping slower than it’s supposed to or if something’s creating resistance)

Which color do you recommend?
@BackroadsAngling Жыл бұрын
I think a good place to start is to match the bait fish in the lakes/ponds that you are fishing. In my area the fish are always keying on shad so I get shad colored lures. White, grey, silver, etc.

Sweet bro. There's something about googan baits that I hate for some reason. Idk why 😂. I was at that pond the same day we met and caught nothing. I think it has to do with the low water
@BackroadsAngling Жыл бұрын
This was my first time fishing a googan bait. It seems like people either love googan or hate them. I'm not sure what that is. I can only catch fish in this pond before 7am. Thanks!
@AGdaRiverRat Жыл бұрын
@@BackroadsAngling Oh that was probably why. It didn't matter anyway cuz of my PB wiper. But I'll try before 7. No thank you!

Fun fact: i buy a lot of stuff you use. How i don't have a float tube yet is beyond me...
@BackroadsAngling Жыл бұрын
The float tube is one of my most treasured fishing possessions. Besides being really convenient and effective it has a lot of sentimental value. I can still remember getting it when I was in high school and we have been through a lot of battles together (both on the water and out of the water trying to get through some heavy cover).
