@@FirstLast-cf4mi no they are just being honest. Unless you've had an addict you care about in your life you've been involved with and learned you can love them and help them and give them everything they need and more to better themselves and after all the time money and stress you've put into them it all ends up being for nothing can be a very sobering experience about life and acceptance. I'm someone with a big helping heart and have gone through that with a best friend and a cousin and it surprised me but even I ended up having "fuck it" moments with both of them and had to turn them away. Before I went through that my opinion would be you never give up you failed them but I was wrong.

Mike Dorsey exactly! They’re not “shitting on Scott.” Scott had problems. All addicts do/did. Everybody needs to draw the line with someone who they like who has problems at some point.

No one could change Scott but Scott himself. The problem is he didn’t truly want the help.

They are not just harping on Scott’s drug problems. Scott would routinely disrespect STP’s and his solo band’s fans keeping them waiting an hour or more late before deciding to appear onstage. I read that Dean angrily banged and yelled at Scott behind a locked door to get onstage before a show. This happened a lot.

I hope STP continues doing anniversary editions of their past albums, and if 'Shangri-La Dee Da' is reissued I hope STP does a deluxe edition; CD 1: remastered album, CD 2: B-sides, demos, live material, DVD or Blu-ray: Unreleased documentary filmed during the album making.

My favorite album of theirs. I love its diversity, it has heavy rockers (Dumb Love, Coma, Long Way Home) good ballads (Wonderful, Hello It's Late) and cool psychedelic tracks (Transmissions From a Lonely Room, Regeneration). Very underrated and overlooked.

Watching these interviews is incredible but also frustrating and disappointing-every video has a major theme: regret. It's not always blatant like in this particular segment, but it just seemed like these guys weren't given the chance they were meant to have. Now having said all that, I myself am disappointed that that's all they had to say about this record. We get it, Scott wasn't all there at the shows or at the studio, but that doesn't mean there isn't an immense depth of resources this music came from. Was hoping to hear more about the music, the process, and less vague sadness directed at Scott, already.
@mindbait7 жыл бұрын
It is a shame though and it sucks when a good band is taken down by the sickness that is addiction. Alice in Chains had the same thing, they were making some great music but Layne was sick and didn't get (or maybe didn't want) the help he needed so the other members of that band had to suffer the consequences
@donkieballs12196 жыл бұрын
As someone who saw them live in their later years, they are totally spot on though. I dropped hundreds of dollars for the whole experience and Scott was an hour and a half late and wasted. The rest of the band was on fire but Scott was off the rails. He on record said he hates touring but has to because he doesn’t make enough money on record sales. So the guy literally goes to shows to take your money and cares little about anything else. I think Scott was an incredible talent and love what he contributed to the DeLeo brothers. That being said, he was a total dick.

Totally ... I'm one of the biggest shangri la de da fans and this segment deserved much more insight into the making of this album...It started off great talking about how this is where the band could've gone. I don't slight the band one bit for talking about their struggles with what I'm assuming is the tour that followed this album. I was really looking forward to hearing about the recording of the songs and such. This segment was just way too short. Regeneration is one of my fave tunes and I would've loved to hear more about that song. It was great to hear them play it last month when they came through town.

Shangri...it's one of the best STP albums...I like it better than Tiny, for example. It would have been a hugely successful album if there had been more publicity work, if Scott hadn't had problems along the way. A pity: there are beautiful songs like Wonderful and Hello its late! , counting on genius rocks like Coma, Regeneration and the pop rock Days of Week. By the way, the video for Hello its late is very beautiful: recorded in black and white, with Scott dressed in an outfit similar to John Lennon's and Robert playing the piano...they were beautiful!

I've the read the idea for the double album Shangri-La Dee Da was intended to be about Andrew Wood who famously died from drugs and whose bandmates went on to form hugely successful '90's bands. I wish there were a demo or mostly completed version of the double album - it's clear from this interview STP had the desire and the material to do it. I wonder if the record companies were too hesitant to commit to it because of Scott's drug use or the difficulty of selling double albums or a combination of both reasons.

I LOVE this album. To me is a combination of every album they did before: the more heavy stuffs from Number 4 and Core in songs like Dumb Love and Coma; the more melodic "Beatles/Bowie" like songs from Tiny music in songs like Too Cool Queenie, Days of the week and Wonderful; and the more "Zeppelin" groovy songs from Purple in songs like Hollywood bitch and Regeneration. This album is so underrated.

I thought Scott was sober for the making of this album... I'd heard in another interview that going to jail had forced him to string together a year of sobriety and the rest of the band wanted to take advantage of that and make a double-album. Perhaps they meant Scott had fallen back into old habits on the resulting tour. Either way, some more insight would have been appreciated.

They spent more time on Scot's issues than speaking on the album. Now, I love the original cast with all my heart (no offense to Gutt, but he just doesn't have anywhere near the charisma Scott did, not even remotely close). Their music was the perfect blend of aggression and introspection laden with vulnerability. It was human, it was my soundtrack. I'll always be thankful to them. However from the outside not experiencing any of the stressors that dealing with someone's substance abuse problems railroading them, the DeLeo's and Kretz often don't come across as supportive, which isn't to say they weren't but sometimes I wonder if their resentment took control of the wheel more often than they want to admit.

Music is an art but also a multi-billion dollar business. Ticketmaster, stadiums and managers can sue bands and no-shows for failing to fulfill their signed agreements. It’s called Contract Law. I’m just disappointed that SW didn’t get the optimal medical management that he deserved to better manage his illnesses. Many with tenacious addictions have untreated ADHD, for example. Might have saved his life.

I went back to Velvet Revolver's catalogue after all these years just to refresh myself on how that turned out... Slither was a nice single, aside from that.. man, every core riff is hard to differentiate from the last song... the songwriting just isn't very good, and a lot of it just flat out sucks. Scott was an incredible talent, but it goes ot show, you can't just leave the muscianship and brilliant songwriting duo like this and expect similar results.
