I’m now three years into my Christian walk and it’s been a sobering experience for me to realize just how much the LDS despise, ridicule, and slander Jesus and Christianity. They get angry when they hear that Jesus is the uncreated creator in the flesh. On my LDS mission our mission president instructed us to avoid people who want to discuss the Bible, because they are “contentious” and of the devil. I wrote once in my mission journal that “they can take their Bible and go to hell”-the hell I didn’t believe existed. In hindsight, I think the few Christians I met on my mission were really the only people who ever really cared about my soul.
@JLLDSАй бұрын

I served an LDS mission in 01-03. It’s true! We were told not to engage in other Christian groups and talk about the Bible. They were of the devil. It’s weird because it’s like we went after people who weren’t well educated in Scriptures. The mentality is that because the church is true, the devil works harder to lead others away from the LDS faith. I left the church and I’m still respectful yet to many in the church I’m sinful and wicked and the devil has me. If ever you want to question if you are in a bad religion, see how they react when you try to leave it. I read the Bible still but I’m not in any denomination.

Winger brought we here as well! I actually had a similar experience when a couple missionaries knocked on my door and referred me to a friend who ended up being the LDS apologist Travis Anderson. We actually had a fairly pleasant conversation, though I was not exactly happy to later find out that the conversation had been recorded and posted without my knowledge. It would have been nice to have at least gotten a heads-up about their intentions. The Cavalry can definitely learn a thing or two from you on how to be honest and courteous in that regard.

I live next to some LDS. The Lord gave me a chance to speak Biblical Truth to them about 15 years ago. I asked Jesus to give the wife understanding. He did. I'll never forget the way she said, "Oh!" After I read Isaiah 43:10; 44:6-8. And after that the entire family started shunning me. They built a 25ft chicken cage and got a rooster. They placed that thing under our bedroom window in a fairly new residential neighborhood. I didn't sleep for 9 days. I prayed for the farm animals to go away. God used the city codes and the HOA to get the animals away. I have been told that I was a subject in that household for a while. I have been threatened with litigation to stop going door-to-door by them. Since I live in America, that came to nothing. I still pray for this family to repent and turn to Christ.

@@JLLDS I have a few theories. When she was here I got vibes that there may have been some romantic interest. Eye contact, compliments, body language. My first theory is she talked herself out of pursuing anything or she allowed someone else to talk her out of it since there’s an obvious age gap, or she’s dealing with a faith crisis, or she wasn’t interested at all and I completely read things wrong, or she wasn’t ready to date. I didn’t know at the time but found out later she lost her dad at a very young age. So girls brought up by a single mom are typically emotionally immature especially when it comes to the opposite gender. And here’s a bit of a controversial theory. I did notice one day in church she was acting strange by keep shifting crossing and uncrossing her legs. As a convert and no stranger to that age I guess she was having feelings that she felt ashamed of since any thoughts of sexual arousal is heavily frowned upon in the church. But whatever the reason two years later there’s been no contact so I did what you should do which is moved on. If she ever reaches out it’s very unlikely i will respond. I really thought there was a connection there and her ghosting me really took its toll on me emotionally and not going to subject myself to hurt again. I put my heart on the line multiple times over the years and been burned every time. So I’m done. I retired from dating.

This is pretty interesting since Latter Day Saints say they revere the Bible too. But of course it is a conditional reverence as long as it can support their interpretations. And to be honest, we all have cognative dissonance when it comes to what the Bible truly says and what we were taught along the way. The missionary program is both admirable and insidious. I can only pray that once a young person is out of the program and living a real life that some of them will see who Jesus really is, their God and Savior. We need to keep sharing the good news of Jesus with everyone.

I just watched your debate with Connor, and with what you've also confessed in this video, I can see why "David" was so assertive with you. While it's nice that you're not being outride rude regarding your interactions with LDS members, you still use the same tactics and approach as the rude protestants. They are: Defining LDS faith for the LDS member based on Protestant presuppositions, using negative case building against the LDS faith to somehow prove your point, and assuming your presuppositions are correct without proving they are. As someone who's had many conversations with protestants, regardless of how nice it's put, it's still bad arguments that completely derail the topic and make it circular and frustrating for both sides. What's even more interesting, is that what you call "arguing" is us challenging your presuppositions, which is where the discussion should be happening. Yet, that's also where yall are at your weakest, which is why I'm not surprised you got combative with Dave. Instead, you'd rather talk with young, impressionable missionaries who aren't aware of the nuances of interfaith dialogue, where you can control the dialog, instead of them pushing back against preconcieved assumptions you enter the discussion with. Thank goodness there are peopl like "Dave" who are teaching the missionaries these sort of things so they don't end up wasting their time on pointless bible bashes. Also, the missionaries are to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world and find those willing to listen and act on their message. For people like you, that's where members like me, "Dave," and Connor come in. We're more than happy to shoot the breeze diacussing theology, the missionaries don't have time for that.
@thomasmaughan4798Ай бұрын
"the missionaries don't have time for that." YES! That's it exactly and one reason for choosing *young* men and women to do the searching and preaching. The typical 19 year old cannot bash the bible, wrest scripture and so on. I can; but I think besides some entertainment nothing ever came of it, AND YET, at times it seems appropriate. Jesus did not explain to Pontius Pilate; there was no one to teach. Jesus taught the Pharisees; but they did not learn -- he taught because of an audience. Here, in KZbin comments, is a HUGE audience and so some good old fashioned seemingly pointless bible bashing made be just the thing.

The problem is that the "informed" LDS members involved in the group completely destroy the LDS faith by how they argue. So, I am not sure how edifying and faith building it is for the missionaries.Sure, from a debate tactic standpoint, using common atheist arguments against the reliability of the Biblical text is going to through a lot of protestants for a loop. Especially since Protestants generally assume most LDS members see the Bible as sacred scripture. However, if the "informed" LDS member applies the same kind of critical look at the Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith's other works, then it becomes very clear Joseph Smith's works fare far worse than the Biblical Texts. If people like "Dave" and Travis Anderson want to go down a more critical road when it comes to the Biblical text, then they should well consider what that means for how they view the Book of Mormon and where that will lead if they want to actually have a strong, consistent argument against protestant critics of the LDS faith. I have read the entire Book of Mormon, and I knew the text had major problems within the first 10 chapters when I stumbled upon a New Testament textual variant created by the church father Origen who lived in the 3rd century A.D. that apparently is cited by Lehi around the 5th century BC. Such textual problems demonstrate we are not talking about an authentic ancient account when it comes to the Book of Mormon, but more likely something that is totally a product of Joseph Smith's own mind.

I don't see any problem with this. Missionaries have rules. "Dave" as .. well, not a missionary .. does not have to abide by rules because he isn't a missionary- right? A member of the church has every right to record a call and also remain anonymous, for their own privacy,. Also is it possible "ryan" is his middle name? Just wondering. It seems like you don't understand the purpose of missionaries. They share their beliefs and invite people to read the book of Mormon. Beyond that, they bring in church members when people such as yourself have questions beyond the scope of what young missionaries are out there to do, and beyond their scope of knowledge. You seem to want to "collect" missionaries. I'm just curious why you clearly contact Mormon missionaries constantly. I don't get what the hyperfocus is all about. Just go live your life. You are giving yourself grace for pretending to be a missionary (that's pretty bad) while being upset about a member using a different name to simply remain anonymous. So i guess (for me anyway) this feels really petty and unnecessary and still bothering you. Move on. Life is too short.

Cavalry FB group member here. 1- You have no clue what the Cavalry is and neither do RFM, Rebecca Bibliotecha, or Mormonish. That episode was laughably inaccurate, and so was the follow-up they did. 2- I've heard that recorded call and "Ryan" was absolutely correct in his characterization of you. 3- "Ryan" has never once referred to himself as a scholar and he rejects attempts to label him that way. When we refer to Cavalry "scholars," we mean people like RB, BS, SS, CB, SA, BG, etc, who have relevant expertise, degrees, or have published work in their fields.
@whychristianity7526Ай бұрын
Why not post the scholars names so we can look up their credentials? My guess is that SS refers to Steven Smoot who is an egyptologist. However his view that there was an Egyptian script being used in pre Columbian America is not shared by mainstream egyptologists, so he is a fringe scholar. Most scholars would find the idea of a thriving semitic civilization in the pre Columbian America's to be laughable. So, it probably is not in the best interest of LDS apologists to appeal to scholarship.
