Canada is hoping China will tone down the block on canola. Like the US, agriculture is a big export product and to lose their biggest customer is not good for the farmers and not good for the economy. Still the big stick in the pot is the tariffs on EV from China. Don't be surprised if Canada chooses the EU tariff rates and not the US rates.Canada needs exports, whether to the US or China, exports are a big sector for Canada.

The narrative posed by this video, that Seaspan ordering 6 container ships from a ship building company based in China, is connected in anyway with Canadian government is laughable. This transaction is just a business deal between two companies, not countries; the business terms of payment of settlement in rmb, is dictated by the seller, the Chinese company. In fact, Seaspan, a subsidiary of Atlas, are privately held by Poseidon consortium, a group of investment companies based in Canada, Japan and groups based in the US, such as the Washington family and Sokol. Companies often buy from sources that make the most sense in terms of profit, not geopolitical reasons. Buying from a China shipyard might be a decision based on price and capacity to deliver the ships in a timely basis. The seller which is based in China, has operating costs such as labor and material inputs in rmb. There is no reason why the seller cannot dictate terms in its own currency, instead of usd. USD is predicted to be devalued as the trend of global dedollarization occurs more rapidly in the next few years. This decision to settle in rmb instead of USD, may be a reflection of this sentiment.
