Very nice pack. I noticed that you put the lockable zippers on the back access panel, but left them off the top access. This kind of defeats the purpose if someone could bypass the back, but easily open the top to steal your gear. The only other things I'd love to see changed, maybe in a version 2.0, would be to add some padding to the waist belt and put longer side pockets on either side, along with compression straps at the top, like the Tenba Solstice series. That way a person could also choose to carry a tripod on the side. Carrying a tripod on the side instead of the front would allow easier accessing of the front pocket. A tripod on the side would also allow you to lay the pack down flat to access your gear and would keep any mud, water, snow or debris from getting on the tripod. All in all a very nice pack, though.

I just got my Backstory 13 today and I noticed some details you didn't mention in the video The Chest Strap is removable if you want to take it off. Handy if you are getting on a plane you can always put it back once you are at your destination. The detachable waist belt is nice too. The zippers on the inside pockets covers for the zippers to go into covers or as some call them zipper garages. so they do not damage your gear. Some people call the Zipper Garages. even the water bottle pocket strap have those covers so no flappy or dangling straps which I absolutely don't like. 😉 and the waist belt and shoulder straps both. have elastic bands to keep them from flapping, Nice. I haven't had a chance to use it yet but I'm sure I'll be happy with it. BTW I wore out my StreetWalker V 2.0 and I got the Brevitié Jumper Camera bag while its a nice bag and it is comfy to wear, and holds what I need it too, I carry a 13 inch laptop and 10 inch tablet and while the Jumper can hold both the Backstory 13 does have separate slots for each of those items and its more secure, I'm both a writer and photographer and the 13 works better for me. I prefer black bags but the Gray is kind of growing on me. They are both about the same size and I will probably use both depending on my needs but I'm a long time Think Tank Photo product user and I will probably use the 13 more. Although I have to admit its a little overkill on the camera side for me, I used to carry a Canon 7Dmk ii and a SL2, two lenses, flash, etc now I just carry a Sony a6600 with a 18-135 lens, a lumecube, two filters, rode video micro and a tech pouch for cables and such the a6600 looks so small in the camera section but I know it is protected. Edit May 30, 2021. I have used it for two months now so far so good, I take it my walk-hike to the local Botanic Garden and its comfortable, in the car the top camera access is definitely more useful and easier than a side access like on my Brevité Jumper. I use both but I like the construction of the Backstory 13 better. I normal only carry one water bottle so I found a use for the second side pocket I put my fold up hiking stick in it so when I don't need its put of the way but available should I need it I got one of those "trick" knees that like to act up at the wrong time.

Loving this backpack. Brought the 15 on a recent trip to Italy along with my Airport Advantage XT (overhead) and was a happy camper able to pack for whatever my days had in store for me. Not to mention using both for daily work in NYC. Great, robust and super-functional bags.

A small thing, but I wish they matched the blue on the rain cover pouch to the blue in the backpack. Also, I wish the back opened to the side, like a book, instead of towards the bottom of the backpack. A hidden passport pocket would also be great!

Hi ThinkTankPhoto, would love to see side straps to hold a tripod in either side pocket. I usually mount my tripod at the side as it keeps the weight closer to my back and it's more stable that way.

Hi, the pockets aren't huge, but they both do have straps as per the vid. Cheers.

Can you use the waist strap to access the bag without setting it down like the Backlight series? Also, do you know if this will fit in a Pelican 1510 case?

Hi Karl, yes you could access the bag like the Backlight Series but I would caution that it would put a lot of stress on the gatekeeper buckle that attaches the removable waist belt to the bag. Based on the dimensions, it looks like the Backstory 15 (the biggest one) would fit perfectly in the Pelican 1510. Backstory 15 Exterior Dimensions are: 11” W x 19.8” H x 7.5” D (28 x 50 x 19 cm), Pelican 1510 Internal Dimensions are: 11 in x 19-3/4 in x 7-5/8 in

I just got a Think Tank Backstory 13 to replace my 20 year old LowePro Mini AW backpack. I like this Think Tank backpack, but 1 thing that really bothers me is how the hard and lumpy back cushion feels on my back. It doesn't give at all. It pushes into my back and causes pain on my back. I can't even bend. My Lowepro Mini AW backpack has a softer, more flexible, more comfortable backside. Is this the way the Think Tank Backstory's back supposed to be worn? Does it get softer over time?

Bacpacks are like shoes - sometimes they feel good, sometimes they don't depending on your body. Try carrying the backpack lower on the back and see if that helps. If nit still doesn't fit right, you can return the bag to the store you bought it from. Thanks for your feedback.

@@ThinkTankPhoto Thanks for reply. I’m wondering if the backside breaks in and conforms to your back more after wearing for some time. I think you're right. Wearing it lower is a lot more comfortable. If I place the lumbar support cushion near my lumbar area, it conforms a lot better. Thanks.

Could someone tell me how wide/deep is the 15's laptop pocket, please?

@@ThinkTankPhoto Thank you. That might work. Although it's more expensive than the Airport Advantage Roller. (199 at BH) Trying to find a bag that's ok as a carry-on for Intl flight and can handle a 17" MSI and a load of photo gear. If you have any suggestions I'd appreciate it.
