Question: what allows the date to be recovered from corruption when referencing the journal as opposed from the original copy? Is there something that allows for the corrupted data to be recovered easier when it is in this journal format as opposed to the original system data?

From my understanding, a journal provides an integrity check for the database in the case of a power outage. So database can reference the latest journal to see which data was corrupted and update the missing information. I would say corrupted data doesn't recover easier because of journaling. But journaling helps with ensuring stability when backing up to a database server, where database server have something to refer to when something goes wrong. Hope that helps!

journaling doesnt help you recover lost data necessarily, it just helps with reverting back to the most recent stable state.
