He isn’t self sustaining. Where is he getting the fish food? Where is he getting the lava rocks? Where is he getting the soil base? The coconut fibers? The replacement batteries? The wiring? Nobody will ever be self sustaining. Not in today’s world, not unless MANY people die and society collapses.

The best part about this video is how HAPPY he is, that and how much he appreciates his family. He is connected to his wife, his kids, the earth, the plants, the fish, the sun-if you don't believe that a life of worthwhile work can be utterly fulfilling and bring you joy, you just need to take a look at this man and learn something. This means the world to me. I almost lost my wife and daughter in a car accident last week. I'm still shook over it. My wife is still recovering. Thankfully she's still with us. All of the money in the world couldn't prevent that moment from happening, I'll never forget that feeling of helplessness. Love your family my friend. They're everything.

Don’t grow grass, grow plants that are indigenous to your state. people in Cali could stop their water crisis if they didn’t care so much about grass. Imagine if they all just planted their own native plants that are resistant to drought.

My husband and I looked into solar power - the 'we'll put panels on your roof and save you money' kind. The contract contradicted everything the salesman said. More importantly, why would we get solar power if we can't use it during a power failure? We'll be moving soon. We intend to put in solar power and do it right.

Definitely. It's a close system. One of thing he didn't mention is the potassium from the fish poop. Current method of agriculture depletes soil of potash and requires constant addition from mined fertilizer only found in a few countries. Fish poop contains potash.

@@TemplarX2 No, it's not a closed loop system. People get that wrong a lot. You are putting in fish food and taking out fish and plants. What you recycle to a larger degree than with other agriculture system is water. And you save on fertilizer and getting rid of animal waste, though the latter is the same as water efficiency in aquaculture.

His testimony is inspiring. Two things to take away here: the sustainability of this practice, and the agency it gives. He mentioned it briefly about not wanting to be beholden to big box supplies; it's become more evident in the last year. Giving lower income families this level of agency is not only beneficial financially (grow/raise your own food), but mentally. By enfranchising them you gain them a highentened sense of self worth, increasing motivation to do better and aim higher.

Also those directly and indirectly shown in the video speak to the power of individual sustainability at any level. Regardless of ones capacity people need to start somewhere, and I believe the act alone is a truly liberating experience.

@@liquidsleepgames3661 Of cpurse there are limits, but i dont agree that people in adverse situations have no chance. Im not advocating setups with this capacity, however. Window gardens, vertical planters, or similar cheap small-scale projects is somewhere to start. The mindset is something valuable worth promoting; its about changing perspective. People are disenfranchised in different ways for sure, but still think starting at any size or level is worthwhile.

@@yungheat84 uh like turning the world off. You get comfortably numb. I used to get high then sleep but it’s different for everyone. Getting high is a ritual. You wake up feeling like hell then you gotta get your money together after that you ride to the hood then find your dude and cop dope. Then you escape home. That’s all part of it. The ritual. Then you get hooked on that rush as well. Before you know it you’ve lost a career you home you live in your truck and stand on the corner with a sign. All those people you see are someone’s son or daughter or have kids. They have a disease. I can only say shooting heroin is like an oragasm. It is a whole body rush then euphoric. But you really only get high a couple times or a special high then it becomes a job.
