Thx Scott, I really enjoy your pacing and delivery, not to mention your content. Can't wait to get out and experiment once winter is done.

Love your yard. I have a tiny condo yard, with a birdbath with jelly & Blueberries. Same pair of Catbirds come back to 'their' yard every year. A friend & I rescue songbirds when they migrate thru Newark NJ they hit the glass skyscrapers or fall to the cement, most do not survive. We recuse many Ruby-crowned & Gloden Crowned kinglets. A recent youtube video shows us in Newark NJ, the video is named ( Volunteers give migrating birds injured in N.J’s biggest city a second chance ) The Raptor Trust made video named( Window Strikes in the Business District ). This year many injured & perished Catbirds 60+. On 6/24 that last of the Spring Newark injured birds was released. This Catbird had suffered from multiple injuries on 5/21 including a broken coracoid, she was released too late for the breeding season but at least she is a survivor and hope this Fall she will be strong enough to make her trip back to the Caribbean.

I'm always jealous of people that have a large enough yard to actually set something up for this. My yard is pretty small and the extent of my backyard bird photography is when the Cedar Waxwings converge on the cherry tree in the spring, and trying to get the occasional shot of some of the other visitors to the yard.

I am sympathetic but would encourage you maybe to plant for humming birds with a small bird bath. I know someone with a very small space but packed it with humming bird plants and she gets several visitors each day

Our backyard is a work in progress, however that is something that we have talked about for years. Thank you.

i have a quarter acre in florida, it's pretty small, but if you put a reason for birds to show up in your yard usually they will, i have not seen a huge selection of them, so far cardinals and big crows lol, but i'm going to try a humming bird feeder and see how that goes

i have a bush that the migrant birds absolutely love in spring (eat the buds) and then they love it again in the fall (eat the berries). luckily, my side door to the garage faces this bush and I'm able to hide inside the door and shoot out (about 12 feet) especially in mornings when the sun is more or less coming from behind me.

There are definitely plants that work. Shrubs are a favorite as they keep birds lower

I have a bird fountain and that works very well. Also had really good luck with a water mister or a very fine sprayer set up on a timer to run just a few minutes morning, afternoon and early evenings. Eventually the birds learn when it's time and show up like clockwork!

Scott, I absolutely loved this video. I love photographing in my backyard because as you stated you can control your environment and also I dont spend money on gas. Keep up the great work and videos.

More than 90% of my bird photography is on our back porch now. Before that it was the back yard. And before that it was all over Tennessee. As my mobility decreased I had to adjust and adapt. I still shoot birds several times a week all year round, so I'm enjoying your video very much, Scott.

Are we missing part of this video? You mentioned you were going to show us your camera setup but I don't recall seeing it. We've turned quite a bit of our lot over to native plantings so I'm eager to learn more about using this for bird photography. Thanks for the video.

Yes!!! I uploaded the video without that part and I'll show you the set up in part 2. Stay tuned

Nice video, with nice ideas and info. I started doing this during the lockdowns and got hooked. I thought you would find this boring, even though what we do in our yards to attract birds invariably enhances our environment for the longer term. I love the migratory visitors. There are often real surprises, including one of a few resident hungry raptors. I recently started keeping a camera (w 500mm) on a tripod in a second story window just above my feeders and water and am at eye-level with several natural tree perches I have opened up. I have a camo drape, but the birds are so focused on the food that I don't bother to do anything except stay in the shadows. It is a nice way to start the day with little prep (except coffee :).

Great video, I’ve enjoyed all your native plant coverage. All great information. I’m in the process of converting my yard to native wildlife habitat. There is a program in our area sponsored by the Portland Audubon And Columbia Land Trust to help you transform your yard to a wildlife friendly native yard. Looking forward to more.

Thanks for the great ideas!! I'm just getting a feeder and branch set up in the backyard, but the squirls are difficult to keep away from the seeds...what do you do about that?
@WildlifeInspired2 жыл бұрын
you can get baffels for them and or keep the feeders away from all trees. the problem is migratory birds and some birds wont come way out into the open. Squirrels are tough when im in the blind i yell at them and they usually run off
