Golf tricks shots and hole outs on my backyard golf course.
Music credit to Jason Shaw: audionautix.com
Have you ever wanted to just wake up, slide out your back door and be on the golf course? Well with a few acres of open land and hard work I have made that all possible in my backyard.
The course consists of 2 bent grass putting greens and 9 tee offs to each green forming an 18 hole pitch and putt course. Absolutely great for improving your short game play great for small tournaments with your friends to win their money.
Put away those online golf games and artificial putting mats and building yourself a putting green in your backyard to play golf for free whenever you want.
This is the first video of my golf trick shot series shot on the GoPro Hero 3. To see some of my older videos follow this link: • Backyard Golf Skillz 4

No exact height, I just cut it as low as I can without killing the grass. Rule of thumb is to cut no more than 2/3 the length of the blade of grass to keep it healthy

Your videos inspired me to build my own green. I'm playing on Tif 419 Bermuda. How hard is to roll out lumps from the sod? I have let it take root, and its healthy. Do you top dress?

Nice job young man. When do you plan to add a bunker or two? :)
@RainSaulnier

Used to have a couple bunkers, one was removed because it was hard to maintain and the other was directed towards the windows of the house making for a bad result if someone were to catch a little too much ball rather than sand.

Hey Rayne Clowd I think this is really rad and I am looking for some advice. I am trying to make a putting green like this in my yard and was hoping for some direction. I am striving for an all natural surface like you have. All these other idiots on here do not know what they are talking about when they say this sucks... This is really difficult to maintain, and its so much fun to have access to something like this in your yard. That being said, how did you start the construction of this type of putting surface? Keep up the solid work, hope to hear from you. Thanks

Hey Devin, thanks for the support. So to begin construction it is critical to have a good idea of how you want the landscape to look before you begin. All vegetation around the putting surface must be removed to reduce the number of weeds. Sand is what most putting surfaces are built on since it allows water to drain easy. You can likely ask a nearby golf course for the proper seed. Allow the grass to grow to at least a couple inches before cutting it the first time to allow the roots to mature and not be ripped out by the mower. If you can afford it having a gas powered reel mower would be very useful. I just use an old fashioned one and weed wacker. Cut it about 3-4 times per week. Roll it 2wice a week. Water everyday depending on where you live. Hope this helps!

Rayne Clowd Thank you!!! I live in Maine so I will not start construction until after the winter, but I do intend to get after it in the spring. I appreciate your help. I may comment again for more instruction. Thanks again, hope to see more posts from you!

Rayne Clowd What type of product did you use to prevent disease and how frequently did you apply? Did you use any fertilizer as well? Also what did you use to roll your surface to make it flat and proper and how frequently did you roll. I was also wondering if you did a mixture of soil and sand after removing the vegetation or just sand. I was thinking of using creeping bent-grass because of the Maine climate... also, what do you do for the colder months of the year in terms of preparation for the season change?

Devin Flynn Didn't use any fertilizer but if you use the proper amount before it rains in can help. Didn't do anything to prevent disease but pick the weeds by hand. I use an old concrete roller (about 100 lbs). I find keeping the grass rolled and smooth is the most important part of making my greens roll well however rolling too frequently will kill the grass. I roll about 3 times a week. I sometimes layer the top of the green with peat moss too increase the nutrients or when growing new seed. I use pencross bent-grass (Ontario Canada). Preparation for winter I do nothing but cut it before it snows and then fix the damage in the spring.

Rayne Clowd Cool, great input. I am going to cut out existing grass in order to create a full putting green before I seed, so should I put down a layer of just sand where I removed the grass before i seed? I have seen some people do a mix of soil and sand but don't know if sand itself would be best. The peat moss seems like an excellent idea, where did you find it? (I'm assuming it was just in your yard) and how did you apply it (Sprinkled into the surface or layered completely over the whole thing), before or after seeding?
