Succulents have shallow root systems so they could be perfectly happy living in those small pouches, but herbs would outgrow those pockets far too fast to be viable since they have deeper root systems.

For those who want to do that wall, maybe be careful with the plant you use, it seems ok to use succulents, but succulents are shade plants, so make sure the sun doesn't shine directly on them, also, it hard to control some of them, you can't really cut them up when they get big, you can take leaves out but you will end up with a bold succulents, the string of pearls its the best option in that wall I think

Painted succulents may not last long. The leaves can't get much sun for photosynthesis, paint is in the way.

They are not shoe pockets. I don't remember the name but they are specifically made for plants.

Looks good. But Watch the water seep under the patio foundation. They’ll be cracked in no time. Could have made French drain and let water flow away from the foundation.

There’s a thing called “gravel lok” its a clear binder that you put over the stones/rock and binds them so they stay off the walk way pieces you made!:) highly suggest for long term maintenance/weather/kiddos!:)
