Staggering the joints, adding some tie backs and making it slightly C shaped could have made it a lot more sturdy. Any updates?

You’re right, wanted to stagger but then would have had to cut them and a lot of them had rocks and railroad spikes still in them so I decided against it. C-Shape would have as well but wanted the most horizontal distance possible. Will try to get an update posted soon!

Did you add any dirt/ rocks to the rear of the rail ties?
@Lynxdefense3 жыл бұрын
Put it in front of the ties. You can see some final product pictures here: lynxdefense.com/building-a-backyard-shooting-range/

You drank that water like a boss. And no that’s not all I took away from the video. Thanks for it . I have a random rectangular 70 x 120 asphalt pad in the middle of some acreage I’d like to birm two sides of. I happen to have equipment at my disposal and a gravel pit only a mile from my property. Suggestions on doing things differently with those resources? I’m a long time shooter with extremely limited experience on a “certified” range. I live in the sticks.

On your berm, did you pile dirt on the shooting side of the railroad ties? I’m about to start building a shooting range and definitely want a proper berm.
@Lynxdefense Жыл бұрын
Yes, the dirt was put on the shooting side of the berm!

@@Lynxdefense Thanks. I’m about to start building up a berm on my land and your video is the best that I’ve found on how this is done.

great idea for a berm, how many pallets of ties did that take in total? the Amish in the next town over want $200 per pallet of ties

I need to do an update video, sorry about that! I really didn’t expect the videos to be so popular. I’ll try to get an update video done.

@Lynxdefense Thanks, and it really is a great video. You must've spent a fortune on all those railroad ties. If you don't mind me asking how much did all that cost? I recently acquired a bunch of property and I thought it would be cool to build a backstop. When I heard about railroad ties, I did a search & that's how stumbled across your channel. Awesome work. I would've staggered them and got more chainsaw time in...(and lots more sharpening time!!) just to tie them all together. But that's me... Looking good...

You’re 100% right. In fact, in my written review I mentioned one of my few regrets was not staggering them. Thanks for the comment!
