I am glad finally someone took initiative to explain jack stand positions. I remember a couple of years ago, I searched everywhere to find out how to lift rear of a Honda Accord 03-07 7th generation but couldn't find a single video. Ended up using a bottle jack to lift one side, put jack stand close next to it and do the same on the other side (not quite safe). I would prefer using a floor jack to lift the whole rear of car and then place jack stands in proper positions. Fortunately, Toyota has a designated position at rear center for it but not this Honda. Btw, 99% of oil change or tire rotation videos in KZbin don't even show this very important part of the process at all, which is mind boggling!

I have used pinch welds for jack stands for years with multiple cars. No problems. I personally think it’s safer than other surfaces that could slip when jacking from side of vehicle and pivot of weight is questionable. I leave jack in place while under car as backup.

Excellent video. Unfortunately, my 2020 Malibu doesn’t have any good place for the jack stands when lifting the front end for an oil change. Obviously, your jack goes on the jack point and everything else has a plastic or thin metal cover that will get crushed. There isn’t enough room behind the tires for jack stands on suspension components. My low profile jack can reach the subframe from the front but they angled it so there is no flat bottom. I was forced to use that anyway with an angled piece of wood which nearly ended badly when the wood suddenly switched which surface it wanted to align with. I can’t just put a jack stand there because it goes right up to another plastic cover.

So I finally bought a bigger floor jack (Pittsburgh low profile 2 ton (Steel) to lift my Jeep (WJ). Problem is, I can’t lift the car high enough to take the wheels off. The wheels droop too low. I lift it from the frame rail. Jack’s max height is 16 7/8 in. I want to change my brakes. Idk what to do 😥 I’ve been considering using a 2x4 wood like many have suggested, but I’m worried about it slipping as others have mentioned. Also, I’ve been considering buying the jack cross beam adapter sold at Harbor Freight, but I might not have enough room to put the jack stand. I might if I jack the side from the middle (between the wheels) to put one jack stand behind the front wheel and the other in front of the back wheel. Not sure if the frame rail can handle being lifted from the middle though. Another idea was lifting (from the frame rail) it to max and putting a jack stand under it (close to max). Then jacking it up from a suspension component behind the wheel (Control arm, axle tube). I figured since the weight is on the jack stand, I’m only putting the (drooping) wheel’s weight on the suspension component. What do you think? Any suggestions? Help me please 😱

What i did once we have cemented area and dirt area in front of it..so i kinda dug a lil trench for both front tires to land in and the jack would lift from cement area so it was still safe flat surface..and was able to get jack to lift enough to get wheels off and still support with jack stands

I once used the floor jack(low profile cap) once on a 2014 Mercedes E-class 212 model on its front floor jack mounting point on the front part of the engine cradle,to Jack up the whole front part of the car,to work on the front suspension I was to work on,the stands were in ready position since i was alone...while pumping the Jack to lift to the standard position (lowest stand set point) and after confirming the floor Jack cap was in safe position,parking brakes engaged, rear tyres secured by wooden planks....the damn jack slid off!!! while working the floor jack!!..to make the long story short, I ended up buying a new radiator for the cooling system after the jack slipped...turns out I didn't factor in the floor profile of the cars parking location.

It's not real clear on where to place the jack stands on my 2013 Corolla LE. The owner manual suggest the pinch locations to lift the corners as you did here. They say to use the tow hooks with a rubber jack insert stored with the car's scissor jack with a floor jack. It looks like there's a frame that goes through the center like on a truck. Are these safe places to put the jack stands? You indicated that just generally for cars. I really wish Toyota would provide better instructions by specific model to avoid the guess work, but I hear you on avoiding weak points and places like the bottoms of the engine and transmission, etc.
@backyardchevy328
@backyardchevy328 4 жыл бұрын
Yea they do have a subframe, it can be lifted on that subframe as well but ive seen a lot of people not place it properly on it and the jack slips back and damages parts..on cars i prefer to lift it on pinch weld..and place the jack stands on the subframe, just cause its less susceptible to damaging other parts
@audiophileman7047
@audiophileman7047 4 жыл бұрын
@@backyardchevy328 I edited my first comment to better explain. The 2013 Corolla LE comes with a rubber insert that's stored with the scissor jack in the trunk. You place the rubber insert in the saddle of the floor jack, and it fits in the front and rear tow hooks perfectly. Then you lift the entire front or back of the vehicle. Saves the time of having to lift on each side to place the jack stands. I see where you're putting the jack stands on the sub-frame. I'm going to look at these spots and see if I want to go with them. I'll also look around to see if they have any spots marked for placement of the jack stands. A lot of this stuff is year and model specific, so you couldn't cover it all in a general video on the subject. This is so critical to safety, a matter of life and death, that I really need to get this figured out and be 1,000% confident it is right. My son is taking an auto mechanics class in high school. He said that there's a reference book that shows how to lift and place jack stands by make, model, and year. I need to find that book! All in all, you did a really great job on this video! Thanks, sir!
