If the lightbulb is off, the power is off. Just make sure you turn the power off at the breaker, not the switch as the gentleman said. If you don't know what breaker to turn off, then get a helper to tell you when the bulb goes out. Otherwise, you will be running back and forth until you hit the right breaker. That's a real joy! :) Also for an added measure of safety, you can electrical tape the wire nuts of the black and white wires that go to the fixture. Good Vid. Have fun Blessings!

I installed the exact same light, however the two screws going thru the fixture that you tighten down to secure it to the unit were two long and I could not tighten them down, so I had to go to hardware store and find two smaller screws that would do the job. what can you do if the wires coming into the box are too short.
@NightScreen5 жыл бұрын
William Heath you can buy new wire at like Menards or anywhere. You’ll have to figure out if it’s 16 gauge or 14 gauge or even if it’s 20 gauge. They sell a tool that looks like pliers, but you can close it and it has loops you can slide the wire through to figure out what gauge the wire is. Once you figure out what gauge the wire is, you can tie the new wire to the old wire and electrically tape them together. Menards does sell a small device you can attach both wires to and it closes them off together, no tape needed. I’m not an electrician, so take my advice with a grain of salt. If at any point you feel lost, hire/consult a licensed electrician.
@eigenbroetler3215 жыл бұрын
Wanted to clarify that your house wiring should only be 14 or 12 gauge, for 15 or 20 amp circuits, respectively. Wire in the light fixture can be smaller gauges than 14 but if your circuit coming from the house is 16 or 20, it is undersized and needs replaced. It sounds like your wiring coming into the box being too short means you cannot make a splice with them to extend, since light fixture's wires are usually pretty long, right? If so, replace the entire wire. In the US the National Electrical Code requires 2 inches of wire in the box for splices. I can't recommend trying to make a splice on anything shorter, even though it's possible and people tend to do it. If you abandon the short wiring and pull new wiring through, make sure you cap the abandoned wires in the light box and the other end (switch box). Otherwise, remove the wiring completely, which likely requires opening up your interior drywall/plaster/etc. and repatching. Good luck!

It may be considered bad practice but turning off the light switch should do the trick. Just me and my girl here and I informed her and taped down the switch. That being said, its good to know your circuits and if they are not well labeled at the panel then this could be a good opportunity to fix that. It's not hard to do and will save you time in the future, perhaps even in an emergency event.
@PouchMaster4 жыл бұрын
@@electricfuzzband Yeah I actually did wind up labeling them and locating the right one! Might as well! Better safe than to electrify yourself! If the current is strong enough you can't let go and then WHOO! You're going for a ride! And you might not get off of it! You're own body being used to compete the circuit! To get off of it, a friend or someone nearby has to hit you hard with a hard wooden (not metal) object like a bat or a 2x4 just to get you off that wire before you're totally electrifried! If they make physical contact with you, they will become part of the electrified chain completing the circuit, and then they're going for the ride with you! I've been doing some research since I made the post!

@@escapefromny2012 - If an exposed wire had to be left for awhile, I would simply cap it off with a wire connector and then wrap it with electrical tape and tuck it back behind the vinyl siding. Aluminum foil is metal and as such is still conducting electricity. whereas a plastic cap won't conduct.
