It's like going in a time machine for me. My Father was born in 1915, my mother in 1920. Mama told me Dad's mother showed her how to make gravy with water and with milk. Man, when Dad ate gravy with biscuits or meat, he would get a piece bread and clean his plate like it was a crime to leave it. Thank you, sister in Christ Jesus. Continue on in the good works.

When I was a kid, when I'd cleaned my plate and I was still hungry but there wasn't enough for seconds, I'd just take a piece of white bread and pinch off hunks of it and pile those up on the plate and poured gravy over the pile. :)

My dad and mom were born the same years!! My dad loved gravy, especially his mom's brown gravy. My Mom taught me how to make gravy. Her method differed in the adding of the liquid. She told me to always to add a little ar a time and incorporate it well before adding more. This prevented lumps. Also the liquid must be cold!! Never warm or hot I have taught my youngest sister how to make mom's gravy and also one of my brothers when he was in his 60's. Another sister never likes gravy except at Thanksgiving and I had to make it if Mom didn't. My dad would always, when we had gravy for dinner, get a slice of bread and cover it with gravy for his desert!! Good gravy is the best!!!

Becky, back in the mid-50s, I was 5-6 years old and lived with my grandma since I was born. She was raised extremely poor, on a farm in Oklahoma. They raised and grew all of their food. They canned everything as well. She always had bacon grease and, as you said, you can use it in about everything. She made the best white gravy and homemade white bread. The white gravy was a staple. Sunday dinner was fried chicken, potatoes, and white gravy, along with corn. For dessert was a cobbler, cake, and 2 kinds of pie, all made from scratch, and made on Thursday, her baking day. She had left the farm when she was 13 years old, moved to town, but she always had a garden and she always canned. She was the one that lead me to God. Sorry for the rambling but this video brought back the best memories I have. Many of your recipes remind me of her. God bless you, Becky. I have kept you in my daily prayers for the past 5 months. Thank you for the scripture too. We all can you God's words, especially now. ❤❤

My mother fed us a lot of gravy & bread when we were teenagers and had bottomless pits for stomachs!! She would also add a teaspoon of bacon grease in her vegetables. I remember we moved to Alabama in the 60s and out neighbor next door was a fabulous cook…. Like a grandmother I never had . Anyhow she would make dinner and send over plates to us sometimes. My father would inhale her dinners and always tease my mama how delicious her vegetables were…. My mama would say “ well she adds bacon grease to her vegetables “ and always told him she could cook like that but he would be dead by 50😂he was health conscious and as much as he hated to , he ate Miss Mary’s dinners sparingly 😂poor guy he died young anyway and he’s probably ticked off at my Mama because he could have ate a lot more of her cooking 🙏💋😇

My stepmom used to make balogna gravy when we didn't have bacon or sausage. But still used the bacon grease to fry the cut up balogna pieces and make gravy. And my uncle taught me to thicken gravy by putting a little water and flour in a coffee cup mix it together to get lumps or balls of flour out. Whisk it with fork until it's creamy like. Then pour tablespoon at at a time it into your gravy and whisk the gravy while pouring. The gravy will start to thicken once you've poured enough flour mix in. I used to always have thin runny gravy when I 1st started learning to cook gravy. And I would get frustrated and throw it out or pour over the dog food because no one wants thin gravy. 1 time I went to throw it out and my uncle stopped me and showed me how to save it. I was very surprised mainly because it was my non-cooking black sheep uncle who showed me how to save gravy. And honestly gravy is not a easy dish to make. It looks easier than it is, atleast until you get the hang of it. I'm 40 yes old now and still wet behind the ears when it comes to cooking certain things. I really enjoyed your video. Your down to earth and easy to understand. I'm from East TN so the country/hillbilly twang is normal to me. I have a little twang too on some words, but I don't hold a candle to you.lol Almost like if I wld be standing in the kitchen with you. Love you and love your channel! My Nanny and Mama always saved the bacon grease, and used it to season alot of things. I learned to cook mostly from my Nanny Smith, because I was always hanging out in her kitchen. I absolutely believe that we are heading towards a time when grocery store shelves are empty, and all the things people have taken for granted, just won't be available any more. I would encourage everyone who lives in rural areas, to get to know your neighbors. Find sources for meats, milk, fruit and vegetables, that are in your local area. We are blessed to live in the country, in the north Georgia mountains, and have good people, who love the Lord, for neighbors. We have among the local community, people who have farms to purchase what we need, and who are even willing to barter and trade for goods, like people used to do. Hard times are coming, but if you keep God first in your life, don't fear, your Heavenly Father will never let you go without.

My mom always fixed this and I learned how to fix it from her. She called it “milk” gravy. She was from West Virginia and grew up on a farm. We also put this gravy on pancakes instead of syrup.

Both my grandma's and moma always saved their bacon grease. So as I got older and married I kept/keep mine. I use it for seasoning my Butterbean, sqash, cabbage etc. But I never thought to use it for my gravy. I just made it when I fried bacon and sausage. Now can you do a video on redeye gravy. I have watched my mama fix it all my life but sometimes I can do and sometimes not so much. Lol. I love your videos and I pray that you are doing good. We lost my dad July 4 and we knew he wouldn't be here for Christmas but we thought we had more time. But we know he is walking with Jesus and celebrating with family.

I especially needed your calm and encouraging voice today, and the gravy was a bonus. God bless you, Becky 🙏

I still save mine, I put it in the fridge. Momma and Granny kept theirs on the counter. Never went bad, we used it before it did. My friend's momma made gravy with firmament that was too die for. She had 10 kids and two adults to feed with not much money. I would love to know what kind of gravy that was it was so good!

I actually meant cornmeal. Not firmament. 🙄

My grandma (97 yrs old- never had any disease at all) always saved her bacon grease.. a good Kentucky country girl, Elwanda :) She kept her grease on the stove too- never put it in the frig. As a kid, the aroma coming from the kitchen would make it so easy to get out of bed: biscuits n gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage.. and homemade jam.. I'll never forget it

My bacon grease container is getting low - and I was just going to bring up a pound or 2 from the freezer and fry it off today to replenish the container. I don't want to bore you but have to tell you who taught me to make gravy. An Army Mess Sergeant who was stationed with my husband. He was a great cook (unfortunately, he drank too much). The only problem with having Frank teach me, for years I could only make enough for an Army. It got so bad after we retired and moved back to West Virginia I would save the leftover gravy and give it to my brother to put on the top of his dogs' food - -Now that it is just me (my husband died 11 years ago today) I save leftover and then clean out the skillet and put a few tsps over my dog's food Thank you for your wonderful videos.

Whenever Grampa's stomach was bothering him Gram would make hamburger toast, but my favorite was her hamburger gravy over potatoes, rice or noodles. Your recipe is very similar! I just love your recipes! So many good memories! When Gram asked me what I wanted of hers, I asked for her table because of all the love shared together around it. Family members and memories are so special! God bless you!

Becky, I love you. Your videos I watch at least 12 hours a day. I have learned a lot from you. I am 73 and used to cook the way you do many years ago. But I had to go to work once my kids got a little older and lost the knack. Well, I'm alone now and decided to start baking and cooking again. My husband of 31 years died 22 years ago. I still had to work to bring home the bacon as they say. But now I'm retired and my past interests are resurfacing. I picked us crocheting again, which I enjoy very much. But my hands don't work like they use to. I still crochet but not as often. Baking was always a passion. I love listening to your words of The Lord while you're cooking. My son is coming over to visit tomorrow and I'm going to fix homemade chicken noodle soup with homemade bread. It's in the low 20's here so it will be a nice meal. Maybe you could do some recipes for people with diabetics. My son and I both have Type 2. God Bless you and keep us all hungry for the next meal and the next "Word".
