I bought caroliniana from PetSmart but watching this video, I think it might be the other. I’ve had them for 2-3 months but they are still small and growing really slow. Thanks for mentioning that they are used in herbal medicine, when all my "freshwater" tanks were heavily salted but not quite brackish, these grew the healthiest and I had a lot of them. Nice to know that I can eat them also :D Now I can forage from my balcony garden AND my aquariums :D I made my "freshwater" tanks less salty so I could grow more plants but I just set up a brackish tank and I wasn't sure what else to put in it. Thanks for mentioning that these will tolerate the brackish environment!

Caroline's Bacopa loves the light..the more the better. Even plainest forms will get a sort of burnt orange cast with enough light. Not a fast grower or tall. At least after 5 months of it. I keep mine in a 6" pot and I would say it's kind of elegant. Nice form. Right now? about 14" tall and wide (not including the pot) and dense. Might need a topping soon.

So I know this video is a year old and I don't expect to get an answer but I have done A LOT of research on this and still can't find an answer. I have a tall 55g tank with a nicrew light and a sand substrate with swords, anubis, money wort and jungle valve. Now mind you the jungle valve does great and is almost out of the water but the anubis and money wort really hasn't done anything and I have it for almost a year. Which leads me to my question, should I look at getting stronger light due to the fact it's a taller tank and it's not getting enough light near the bottom? How does a tall tank instead of a stander tank differ when it comes to lighting for plants? appreciate any help you can give.

I have found that any plant less sturdy than anubias is pretty much doomed in my tank. I have tons of mystery snails and despite the fact that "they don't eat plants," that just has not been my experience. I think that really applies more to people who aren't accidental snail ranchers! 😀 Perhaps I will try some bacopa one of these days. I really like plants, but until I stop with the snails it is a waste to buy anything tender. I really appreciate the plant spotlights because I seem to have a difficult time finding info on aquarium plants and unlike land plants, the stores don't give any information about them!

Moneywort, the plant that won't die unless you neglect or abuse. Disagree with it being slow growing, then again that is compared to Anubis, Marino Moss balls, java moss and/or java fern. Took over my 29g tank within a month to 2 months, but it made a beautiful jungle. Maybe it just me or the conditions I had setup in that 29 gallon tank since I was experimenting/beginner user of ferts and co2. Water parameters are city water, pH 7.6 with stupidly high GH levels 20+ drops and high KH which seems to change between 10 and 20 drops. Only treat with chlorine remover. Need to look up its brothers/cousins for a different variety of colors since I like the red ludwigia plants I have.

If I want a shorter plant to fill a small portion of my tank, what would you recommend. (Maybe 1” tall) I’d be open to a carpet plant, but how would I stop it from spreading through my whole tank?
@aidanhodgescience76345 жыл бұрын
I only know of carolina native aquatic plants however, helanthian tenellus is a low growing aquatic plant that grows up to about 2" up to 4" if there is too much light. It has substrate runners. To prevent a substrate runner carpet plant from covering the entire area, you can create substrate barriers in the soil similar to how people use aquarium tubing to create a barrier for duckweed. Make it out of a strong mesh like material and it will allow nutrients to flow through the barrier but not the runners.

I’ve got a yellow Chinese algae eater who sees himself as an interior decorator. He had a lot to do w/my Bacopa not staying put after the first planting. Would those algae balls that are usually placed in tanks for Bettas be ok in this tank, despite my algae eater?
