My bacopa leaves are folding any idea why
@CorvusOscen5 жыл бұрын
Hey JR! This comment is a perfect example of why I started the discord and patreon pages. In this case a picture is worth a 1,000 words for sure and it's pretty difficult to go back and forth about what could be going wrong in your setup. I can say the four things to look into though, light, water, substrate and fertilization. Any of that could be the issue! Thanks!

Really love this video. Forgive me for being cheesy but we all have that first plant, where you're like "Oh, I am a plant dad. A plant parent. This is my life now." Thank you for sharing. I'm going to try this out in my 150. And it's tall, 30". Was going to go with Val, but I'm digging the possible shrimp platforms of B. Caroliniana. Trying to hide some sponge filters.

Thanks for mentioning how this plant inspired you to grow my plants and can tolerate almost anything (reasonable). This bacopa is the one plant I had that didn't die when I started salting my tanks so that they were halfway to brackish. I recently reorganized my tanks so only one is brackish, I'm hoping for better plant growth.

Joel, Great vid! While at a scout event on the Hudson River, this past fall, I found something that looked like Bacopa growing in a lawn. I decided to take a few cuttings home. Sure enough, it was Bacopa. Evidently it can go down to 15 degrees F or so😲. It is now growing in my sun porch 75. Cheers, Chris

Being a native plant, it can take most of the heat given from our environment, it probably won't look that great in the cold months, but it will survive!

I have a huge stand of the plant.It gets a few hours of sunlight a day. It goes to the top of the 24" tall tank and then across another 12". What I did was keep it in a black 6" square pot..no drainage holes. Potting soils for 4" and 2" of sand on top. Planted last July. I have had problems with hair algae. I now keep Hydrogen Peroxide on hand. Whats great about pots is..you can take the largest plant out..spritz it with HP..let it set for 10 or 15 minutes and put the plant back in the tank..no shock. Its a little wild looking now..but as it grew it looked elegant,formal for months. Very dense growth. My experience-ha.

Sounds like the perfect plant to put in my 135g that has pool filter sand & some SA cichlids. I know I know ya can't have plants with those fish but I put some Val & Water Sprite in to see if anything would grow good & if they'd work with the cichlids. The Val has 3-4 off shoots & doing pretty good. The Water Sprite was floating the next day lol.

I picked up some Bacoa Caroliniana around October of last year. It has almost no growth since then. It's planted in Stratum and given Easy Green, so after watching this, the only thing I can think of is that the plant load is high enough in this 10 gallon that it is CO2 starved. I'll be setting up a new tank with my first CO2 setup in a couple weeks, so we will see if that might be the case. Thanks for the video, it eliminated my hunt for other nutrients it might have been missing.
@ughno28365 жыл бұрын
It does grow really slow for me in the 1 low tech tank I've got it in... but it looks healthy anyhow. Also it's purple/reddish in the morning and then fades to green during the day for me in that tank. It's redder than it is @ 200+ par in my high tech tank in the mornings and it is just cuttings from that tank. I don't actually believe there is a difference between "colorata" and caroliana besides the tank conditions. I don't fertilize that low tech tank at all, it's got lots of caradina in it... but I've never trimmed it in there in 6+ months and it's just now about to break the surface of the water in a 15" cube. It's definitely faster with co2... but that's almost ubiquitous.
@MadCheshireHat5 жыл бұрын
I feel like some of mine has grown well enough without CO2 and in low light. Definitely not as fast as the Amazon sword, but faster than one of my buces.
@CorvusOscen5 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure you are correct on this point. Co2 limitation will starve out a plants output very often in our tanks that have all the other ingredients in there.
@CorvusOscen5 жыл бұрын
Healthy growth really is the key factor. That's all we can really hope to produce. I am sure in the future, this will help you if you are adding more fancy equipment!

Great video! Do these plants need floated first to grow some roots or can they be put in the substrate without roots?
@Jalzer716 Жыл бұрын
I personally float them until they grow roots, then put them in substrate. Doesn’t have to be a lot. I’ve planted them when the root is barely 1-2cm. I’ve had one too many melt and float to the top looking for light. You’ll also need to make sure you have light touching the bottoms of these stem plants or they will melt and float up to find light.
@BamaHama9143 жыл бұрын
Yep, so easy even I can't kill it. I have actually killed java Fern early on😁 Although mine is still living it grows at a snails pace. I have just recently trimmed and replanted for the first time, and I have no clue how long ago it was planted.

That plant you're cutting. I have that plant but it's melting and losing its leaves and I think it's dying. Since we used to live in Kent Washington and moved to Emmett Idaho, which we have well water. Moneywort is doing fine that I bought from Petsmart but this not doing so well.

I think I’ll try this one. One question - On my Ludwiggia Reapens when I trim the top the plant stops growing up and starts growing out. Does this plant grow similar after trimming?
@howlinhauler5 жыл бұрын
Almost all stem plants branch when cut . This applies to all plants really. Search stem plant propagation for best info.
@Evil_Genius_8885 жыл бұрын
E Wright Thank you for the clarification. I figured this to be the case.
@CorvusOscen5 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is the common plant response to trimming in that fashion. If you do not want this effect, pull the whole plant, trim the lower portion off and replant just the top.
