My Grandad used to drive steam trains and, later, diesel trains on the Bury to Bacup line. He lived in Britannia, Bacup. I used to sit in the cab of the twin set diesels regularly and went from Summerseat, where my father was station master from about 1952 to 1957 to Bacup and back. Grandad's name was Jim H Ingham.

I went to Thorn in the late 50s early 60s, then onto Blackthorn because I was too thick to pass the 11 plus.

@@christmasvlogs8691 Mr. England was the headmaster, a fella called Mr. Harding, a six foot six Texan taught anything he wanted to. I think Miss Pilling taught history and my favourite teach was Miss Kay, she taught girls gym.

I was born in Bacup in 1963 and although many of the buildings are no longer in existence I recognise the locations except the railway and station. I have no memory of that as presumably it was closed by Dr Beeching by then.

The line to Bacup was indeed closed by the railway executioner.

Oh, joy ... such memories! At 3.37 you show an image of Ebenezer Baptist Church. I believe that has now bee demolished, (to accommodate a car-park?) My father was probably the last minister there ... circa 1962. Slightly fond memories of place. Loving memories of my father!
@scoutholme9 жыл бұрын
nolicnotrut can you tell me who your father is and when he was there
@nolicnotrut9 жыл бұрын
Yes, Nigel. he was Rev Herbert Turton, pastor of Ebenezer, 1959 -62. I had to use www.rossendale-fhhs.org.uk/files/bacup_churches/church_218.html to remind myself. (You'll have to copy & paste that URL.) Hope that helps. I was attending Thorn Junior School, followed by Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School while we lived at-top-o' Bankside Lane: no 62. I think.

nolicnotrut We used to have some Baptist hymn books that came from Ebenezer when I was young at Edgeside , the site is not a car park it is grassed over , Ebenezer is long gone but not forgotten by the older end in the Baptist community. Thorne school is no longer behind the baths it now lives in the old Blackthorn secondary building behind the cricket field the baths have also closed but BRGS is still going
