Good tips. Here's one that I like the best: Every aisle seat has a button under the armrest that allows you to lift it for getting in and out easily. I love this! A flight attendant showed this to me once and it's the best flying hack I know.

Many armrests in the middle also have buttons. I always select an aisle seat so I can take the necessary bathroom runs without bothering my seat mates. If I am in my seat first, thought, I will raise the armrests for the passengers who have to scoot over to the window and middle seats and will either lower them myself or let the passengers know what I did and why. If I don’t get to it, usually the FAs will require the armrest be lowered for take off and landing.

Beware of people claiming to be a couple, that booked the last minute to save money, and they ask for you to switch into the other halves MIDDLE seat !!. It's usually a scam that happened to me once on a long flight. They book last minute,2 middle seats, then find someone in a isle or window to switch,then they are sitting together. Just sharing, it's a real thing.

@@mauimixer6040 Here in Australia the cheapest seats on both domestic international flights are usually on early bookings. Prices tend to rise as we approach flight date. It's both programmed pricing and dynamic pricing. Once X cheap seats are sold at Y price then the price rises for the next lot of seats. (Programmed) Also, the speed at which they sell out may affect the timing of price rises regardless of numbers sold (dynamic pricing). Can happen on hotel websites. If you keep checking a hotel price, it can automatically be raised just for YOU! An encouragement to book and not track prices.

For long economy international flights I always choose middle row aisle seats for easy access to the aisle and less disturbance from seat mates. And for smooth flights the middle section between the wings is best.

Just flew virgin airways cairns to brisbane. More leg space but no under seat storage- all items including purse had to be placed in overhead bins which was not convenient.

Wow. Odd. Was the space used for anything? It’s definitely much safer not to have items under the seats bc they can move around and get in the way of a speedy exit (exactly why the FAs will come around to make sure all that stuff on the floor is well tucked away) but in my almost 50 years of flying, that’s a first.

I always book a window seat so I can look out the window. But it’s getting more and more frustrating when the cabin crew ask you to close the blind because it’s more comfortable for other passengers. Hold on, I booked a window seat so I can look out the window. If other passengers wanted to control the blind they should have booked that seat.

That's being an inconsiderate traveler. Bet you also like taking excessive cabin luggage too. I book an aisle seat so I can get up when I want to. So, using the same logic, if you want to get up, you should have booked an aisle seat and I don't have to get up for you? Nor should I pass you anything. If you wanted meals and drinks you should have booked a seat within distance of the cabin crew's reach? Please rethink your 'right' because it's not a right if it disturb others.

@@johnwinter6061I refuse to rethink my "right". I also wish to seat next to the window and sometimes have to pay extra to prebook such a seat. Noone, not even the airline, should then have the right to deny me the very reason that I wanted to sit next to window - to watch outside the window. Secondly, how on earth can an airline know what other passengers in the cabin prefer? Never noticed them conducting any kind of survey on the matter. For the sane reason I try to avoid flying 787 aircrafts whenever I can. Ability to control automatic window tinting should in my opinion be prerogative of window seat passengers at all times. Nothing to do with cabin crew Anyone not liking light in the cabinc can use eyemasks any time they like. Finally, I don't care if aile passenger will give me way to get out. I can still jump over him or her any time I need to go to the loo. 😂

(On some flights the sun never sets because of the relationship between flight and earth movement.) I hate the 787 for other reasons. It's NOT a Dreamliner. It's a nightmare. (Just like Boeing's 727 T-jet was never quiet. False advertising.) But not for your selfish reasons. maybe those next to you should tell you to sit in your seat for the whole flight. I can hold out for 16 hours. Can you? If they are asleep with their eye masks on, are you going to wake them up and deny them their right to sleep uninterrupted? Recon you can jump them without waking them? If they are awake and watching something, will you interrupt their 'right' to uninterrupted viewing? Do you rely on them passing over and back meals and drinks? Why should they have to wear an annoying and leaking light mask? It's OUR right to sleep without one. Why should I have to wear a mask because of you? What about someone's 'right' to having no contact with other bodies? If I book an aisle seat, do I then get to control the aisle? LOL etc, etc. We all need to get on with each other. That requires recognition that one person's rights may cross over another's. Just think about the current wars in the world. What happens to the rights of the innocent and children in war time? They are all about whose 'rights' have priority. Try living in a regime that only allows one religion and that is also the law. You play up and the state has the 'right' to behead you in a public stadium. Or simply debate abortion. Whose rights prevail there? The mother. The embryo? Religious zealots who want everyone to behave like them and impose their views on others? Hopefully one day you realize you're not really going to see much new out your window. If you suffer from claustrophobia, you have my sympathies. But don't use it as a false excuse. Consider other transport (with better views) or some tranquilizer so you don't trample on other's rights. Hypnotherapy might help too. Oh and have a look at a TV series called 'The World from Above'. Much better, more convenient and far cheaper than any plane window view. Just a little consideration by all and we'll all be happier. That's my message. I dont fly in a middle seat, if an aisle cant be had ,I look at other flights or airlines. Always check the seats available before booking, pay for seat selection otherwise you will be unhappy,, or seats together if you not ttavelling alone.

You should highlights the seat number. Some airlines deliberately not shows true layouts ie windows etc. A bit of analytical, I had the best seats from London to borneo states last year on Royal Brunei. I think no 36A next to window and exit. I streched and my legs raised. I took the photo to showoff business class and paid economy😂

There is one an advantage sitting behind seat if depending on the airline during boarding time choose to those who have seats numbers behind the plane to board and enter the airplane first, after those who specially disable needs passengers went aboard and these passengers can/could put up their carry-on luggage and extra bags just above them inconsideration to other without needs to be worry that their luggage & extra bags been place further from them. You have missed this point of advantage.

Totally agree, especially flying certain international routes where many passengers are returning home. Many have little consideration for other passengers and have many hand carry stuff. When available, pre ordered meals such as diabetic, fish meal, etc, will always be served first before the crew start the meal service. Thus seating at the back is not so much an issue. My formula is ailes 💺 and 2nd to rear zone.

Because of weight and balance considerations, it’s not smart to board an entire section at a time. Boarding only the behind (? translation is context dependent) known as the rear or back of the plane is a great example bc if all of the weight barring a few up front in first or business class at the back could cause the plane to tip onto its tail. This is why it may seem like there is no logic to the boarding order, but they actually do know what they’re doing. PS, I hope I never get assigned a seat behind the plane 😳🙄😆

When reserving an exit row seat, in the US you must be at least 15 years old. The minimum age is 12 years old in some other countries, such as Japan and Finland. I know from experience than when booking a flight with my child (who is under 15), I’m not even given the option to choose seats in the exit rows when selecting our seats. If somehow a child under 15 and their accompanying adult passenger happen to be assigned exit row seats, flight attendants must move them. Well at least the must move the child, however if a parent/accompanying adult leaves their young child to sit elsewhere on the plane while they sit in the exit row, that’s not cool.

Pilots will dump most of the fuel before crashing, the planes main structure is located between the wings, it’s like the main roll cage for racing cars.

It would be nice if everyone could experience first class lay fly seats on long-haul flights. It’s the best way to travel. At best, all long-haul flights should have seats that recline more than they do already. Traveling upright in a seat for many hours can be hard on muscles and joints.

Are you sure that's all window seats. There is always a row somewhere where the arm rests do not move. It's for handcuffing prisoners during flight. We thought we got lucky booking window + aisle and leaving middle seat vacant. The middle was vacant but the arm rests would not move. Checked with staff. Yep. We'd struck the ONLY three seats on the plane to do that! No way to know in advance which 3 seats will have fixed arm rests.

Lots. Quickly tho, premium economy gets you seats that may have more legroom, seats towards the front of the plane, priority boarding after first, business, families traveling with small children and those with disabilities needing additional time to board the plane, and at least one free checked bag if not two. Each airline is different so you’ll have to check with the carrier. Business class is an upgrade over this. You can go to any airline’s website and read what the specific difference are. Hope this helps.

Most airlines have started doing that. The sooner you book the more seats you will have to choose from. If there are only sucky seats left, I wait until I get to the airport bc there are always some seats that are only available for seat assignments by the agents at the ticket counters. I’m trusting in their good natures at that point, but I can’t get any worse than what my chooses already were when booking online late in the game.

Sounds like you had never flown on a long-distance flight before; long distance flights usually after you have taken off at a cruising altitude, flight attendants would ask you to pull down all the window shades especially on overnight flights...
