Hey Niko I'm a former atc and as far as I remember from formation days, we gave instructions, we heard requests, we sometimes had to clarify procedures and instructions, but: 1. The pilot always have the last word on his flight requests 2. You don't engage in useful (I meant useless) conversation (unless proven necessary), witch didn't seem to be the case. Maybe it was a rookie kind of atc. Happy landings from Portugal.

Glad to see more videos Niko! Wonder why some ATC people don’t seem to realize you are the one up in the air and the things you see may be different than what they see on the ground especially when there is a safety issue as in weather and going around it. Your flying for 48 years means more than my flying for 12? How so? How do I know what kind of pilot you are? You know how I am because it’s visible. Having said that watch my videos and tell me an instance where after a call I don’t say thanks and please. In this case I did the same. My assertiveness is what surprises you. Probably because you are never assertive and you just take what they give you. Not me…

Than carry on. I'm not a pilot or an ATC, but to me when a pilot isn't comfortable with a certain route for whatever reason common sense would seem to dictate and give the pilot what is being requested. As you said, the pilot is the one that is there. If the pilot wants to go another way, there's no harm in sending them another way. There could be very serious safety repercussions otherwise. It looks like you had beautiful weather when you arrived. That was a pretty house on the lake and loved the flyover footage! I like what you said about aviation. Not sure if I’ll be able to justify not afford the Cirrus Jet. Of course it’s a dream to be in a jet but I also have to be a realist about it. It's too bad you had to deal with ATC that was not willing to work with your routing request. "That line of weather I'm not showing." I believe he's saying he literally can't see it because his weather overlays don't go out that far. So, in his mind, he just assumed there would be gaps you could pick your way around. The "letters of agreement" are agreements between his center and the next center over regarding things like routes.
@tombrotherman78383 жыл бұрын
I was going to comment about the agreements. I didn't know a thing about them - I'm not a pilot or ATC. But I kinda figured that's what he was alluding to. Might have been useful if he had just come out and said that.

Well he did at the end but we pilots don’t care. That’s their job to figure out.

@@NikosWings it was wrong for him to argue, interesting, I saw recently video from KZbinr Aviation101 who sort of says the same thing where the pilot needs to make the decision at the end of the day like what you did, but he did mention that his NextRad has a 10min delay on update while the ATC has the most accurate and up to date Radar Scan of the weather. Was this ATC just making a bad judgement call? According the Aviation101, there's a high probably the ATC may actually be correct most of the time under such context. For Aviation 101 He kept his flight Visual all the way to the end, then converted to IFR for the landing portion of the flight.
@NikosWings3 жыл бұрын
In some cases some ATC has better radar than our NEXRAD but many times, like this one, they don’t. The guy didn’t know what I was looking at neither did I know what he was looking at. But at the end the buck ends with me, not him. I have all the risks, not him. But anyway, I had options to cancel IFR and take it VFR all the way but when you go through weather like this there’s uncertainty as to what you’ll find in it. Aviation101 knows what he does!

Hey Niko great video as always. I'm a CFI-I in Vero Beach and I've certainly used VALKA quite a lot for hold practice. Though sadly, that can be quite typical with Miami controllers. I am a Miami Center controller that works the airspace where you had a issue with your route. I'd love to chat with you about your flight and some ATC procedures. I think it's best that pilots understand what we do and why we do it.
