Sonne Farms

Күн бұрын

We started the day off with a weird situation were a calf's ear was bleeding from an unknown cause. Next it was discovered a calf had died over night. Upon further investigation, taking into account the situation, we are thinking it died from Clostridium Perfringens Type A. We vaccinated for type C & D. This pathogen can take a healthy critter and kill them suddenly. At the end of the day while we were box scraping our lots, we buried the tractor.
Welcome to Sonne Farms!
On this channel we showcase numerous jobs a Corn/Soybean/Beef producing operation takes on each day. Hop in the cab or sorting alley with Cole, and see how life really is for the people that help feed the US and the rest of the world. In addition to Corn, Soy, and Cattle, Sonne Farms puts up grass and alfalfa and sells pure bred Black Angus Bulls.

Thank you for your video sharing. I run a small cattle operation here in southern Oregon. I am 64 year old woman who works full time as nurse practitioner then full time on my farm. I have 22 head of commercial and registered Angus. I have had some good days and bad days and watching your videos really gives me comfort that I'm doing "ok". I love raising beef and know this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. Would love to come visit your farm someday if I ever get to South Dakota.

It's a really sinking feeling when you lose a head of livestock. You work hard every day and do your best and still these things happen. It sucks. Once had a feeder steer get pneumonia and lost it when the vet tried to give it antibiotic in the vein. Good luck guys.

Finding dead critters is never good... If he was stuck in a hole and couldn't get up, at least you would know what happened... Last one we lost that we didn't really know what happened, was an awesome bull calf! Weaned off over 700#.... All we could figure out is he had his head under the fence sneaking some grass.... And got ran over by half the cow heard when we let them out.... BTW, dogs butt would have a boot in it!!! Thanks for the video!

one of my neighbors was losing calf's like crazy for what seemed to be no reason and it took us awhile to find out that his donkey was grabbing them by the neck and being rough with them. he lost quite a bit of money worth of calf's that winter. It's kinda funny that the reason he has the 2 donkeys are for protection for the herd yet it ended up being worse than the wolves, coyotes and bears.

Often thought about cameras in the barn, but unfortunately you can't see everything... Especially on a monitor, unless you use the big screen TV.. Even people who do have cameras, still make walk throughs just as often... Maybe even more often because of the camera.
