many young ones come out of university think with big ego and looking down at jobs and hard works like this from above,i was like that too. Until i understood how toxic office and city life is. Life on farm teachs man real connection between nature and simplicity of survival. Also with its all sweat and hardness it brings special peace into soul as one doesnt have time to speculate and finaly can compare with that buzzy-ness (bizniss) out there. When listenin this father plus looking at his hands, color of his voice and sense of words...it is real treasure. This experience to start to comprehand it can be long process.

Gentleman that was a master class demonstration of how to calve a cow using a calving stick, instead of the usual clowns that panic ratchet in a straight line and then wonder why they have a dead calf prolapsed cow possibly a trapped nerve and if she survives this ordeal struggles to get back in calf. Bull calves nearly always go full term .🇬🇧👍 p.s your farther gives good advice remember it well 👍

Ohhhh I know what you mean, bubbles a first time calver ,her calve was massive she started having it just after I finished the afternoon milk I put her in the small barn, it was 4.30 ish finished the jobs I had to do checked on bubbles popped home had a sandwich went back and sat down with bubbles, at 5.30pm she was pushing I got the roaps around the calves front legs i was going with her contractions calve came out lie there for a few minutes then had a heart attack and it was all over, got the vet out he said most unusual but it was too big for her, it was massive I've never seen one that big before, in the 10 years I've been working with cow's poor bubbles she was such a lovely tempered girl, her next calve was normal 😀👍thank goodness.

Wow. First time I watched this video. Brian, you showed tremendous skill pulling the calf. You coordinated with the cow’s contractions, pulling when she pushed, and didn’t hurry. I’ve seen people who just winch the calf out as fast as they can. Hurts the cow. Your way is so much better. 👍👍👍

That's how we learn and things are committed to memories is by repetativeness. It tacks doing something 3 x during a week to have it go into the long term memory. But to retain it you have to learn it over and over again! That's why our education takes so long!

I remember one year when I had my hiefer bull who was really good for hiefers(nothing ever more than 75-80 pounds) on charolais not bad at all. Anyways that hiefer bull separates his shoulder and was done. So we had a mature bull who was maybe throwing a 85 pound average calf so dad put that bull on the hiefers. 30 hiefers 70% c-section rate. Had 4 go one night to the vets. That was the last year we bought charolais bulls

We had one heifer that wasn’t suppose to be bread she was only like 750 pounds anyways she must of been bread by a young bull calf still don’t know what would of ever got to her but she had a calf on her own that weighed 47 pounds. But our cow bull his calf weights are all over the place. We had him on some heifers that calved easy and on cows had a hard time. Had some older cows have calves around 115-120 pounds
