a beautiful place to rest and enjoy. I especially like the waterfall that runs through the center of the town

A wonderful walking tour of this little town in Austria. The old buildings look solid rather than crumbling. Nice 👍

The city has seen a remarkable revival since 2016/17. There's not much more crumbling to be seen. Instead, Bad Gastein, which is built into the slopes of two mountains around a colossal waterfall in an exceedingly narrow Alpine valley, is tightly packed with massive 15-story grand classicistic buildings from the belle epoque like you find them in Vienna's first district. It's absolutely unique and different from "normal" Alpine villages in that it has a skyline and basically skyscrapers. It also has thermal baths because there are hot springs under one of the mountains. As the Austrian emperor spent his vacation there over a century ago, they even built a direct Alpine train line - what Alpine village has all that AND 200km of ski slopes? Please come visit, especially outside of peak season - the place will blow your mind. Much love from Bad Gastein!
