Looking good and sounding great as always my friend. I'd forgotten just how commercial and poppy this version was compared to the Robert Cray original. I was lucky enough to see EC jam with Cray on this track at the Mean Fiddler in London in late 1986. That 80's Clapton strat sound, can also be heard on the new John Mayer album. Hope you're keeping well, always a good day when you post :-)

@@ColinStachowski Haha, It's true. You have done a spectacular and very thorough job. This album is very atypical in Mr. Clapton's career. A great album without a doubt that not everyone appreciates as it deserves. Regarding my version, I have played it in my own way, a little by ear, without respecting the original leads ... I am very given to improvisation, hehe ... I have read in some other comment that you plan to stop after covering "From the Cradle". For me, Eric's last great album. Although there are very well-known songs in his later recordings. I repeat, I admire your work a lot. Regards!!
@ColinStachowski3 жыл бұрын
@@kikefuentes5105 Same here, albums after 'From the Cradle' are not really classics for me. I don’t see myself trying to figure out how to play songs like 'Three Little Girls' etc. I guess I will then go back and focus on Bluesbreakers and Cream if I get a Gibson by then.
@kikefuentes51053 жыл бұрын
@@ColinStachowski Cream and Bluesbreakers, even the Yardbyrds era have great blues songs. Although Cream approaches that from another perspective. The Les Paul sound is very distinctive at that time. In any case, a guitar with a humbucker might be able to resemble that sound. The woman tone.

If I could change one thing about the 'August' album, I would turn up the guitar louder in the mix. A lot of good playing all through out the album but can't really hear it under all the keyboards and Phil Collins drumming. I mean it is Eric's album to, so would make sense to have his instrument turned up the loudest

This song is so good. But I don't understand why Phil Collins made the mistake of such LOW volume in the voice. It can hardly be heard!! I was aware of B. I. in 1986 when August came out, and 2 years later, I discovered Robert cray from scratch... And his original. I like both the same. Anybody knows if Eric has ever played it live??

For a long time I thought the same thing because that has always been a pretty popular narrative in the Clapton fandom (and more than likely connected to the largely baseless and strangely aggressive hate that Collins received for essentially just being popular) but at some point, I started to really think about that position and to be blunt, it didn't really hold up. Bringing Collins in really pushed Clapton to explore a more polished, more sophisticated sound and while that may not have been everyone's cup of tea, it did lead to what can honestly be considered Clapton's peak in regards to playing and performance. One need only watch the '24 Nights' concert (or listen to it) to see the positive impact that Collins had on his musical approach. That show contains some great songs and often the best versions of some of his classics. There is also the simple fact that Collins was Clapton's friend at the time. It makes sense that they would end up working together and honestly it did Clapton's career a lot of good in the long run.
