Been a fan of Eric Clapton for nearly ten years now. Yet I haven't heard this song until now. Somehow. Discovered it beacuse of Rick and Morty. The show is great. But the song is just really really good! Just really glad to listen to another masterpiece from slowhand.
@michaelmartelly55034 жыл бұрын
Same. I've listened to two of his albulms and never even heard of this song. I think it's because it was made in 1986, as opposed to the early seventies.

That song plays here on Canadian radio every once in a while. Besides, it was famous as soundtrack for "the color of money"
@rizzalater725 ай бұрын
There's two live audio versions of this on KZbin from the 1986-87 August tour that are way better than this one.
He brings along a whole 4-piece horn section that only plays on the last 30 seconds of the song! And yet, it's absolutely necessary - this song is nothing without the horns. And he knows it. Bravo, Eric!

The Color of Money introduced me to this song in 1986. Rick and Morty refreshed my memory of it in 2020. Now, I listen to it regularly because it’s a lot easier to keep track of music collections in 2020 than it was in 1986. A big box of cassettes was my iTunes library. 😆

Eric's best 80's song. Yes, it IS! It's just too bad that he's almost never performed it...
@atourdeforce5 жыл бұрын
Yea its just one of those songs he can't get to sound right. Saying he almost never performed it live is an understatement. To the best of my knowledge this is it. Even touring he never played it. And I'm certain a year or two after its release he never played it live again. It just doesn't sound right live. But to be fair that could be because he tried to speed it up to fit in a few extra seconds for the end solo. It all sounded rushed and hurried. Not his fault tho. Notice the audience were clearly told to clap early during his end solo by the audience instructor, to get him to stop so he wouldn't run overtime. You just know it killed him not to be able to play a proper solo for that type of song because of tv having a 3 minute limit.

@@GodInTheMachine pretending is cheesy asf. It has awesome guitar solos though. But iitwtyyi is definitely his best 80's song the solos are incredible.

@@nobleeffort2.4 pffft that's easy, there's a live version of that on the extended/deluxe edition of either 461 or Slowhand. Or maybe it's from live in the 70's but its definitely a live version. Apple music is where I got mine from.

Forever Man, Pretending, bad love, it’s probably me, it’s in the way that you use it. Clapton’s 80s era has been underestimated, and he probably was in his best form. great to see it’s getting back in the public eye.
@SpaceCattttt4 жыл бұрын
@@MartiniPinball True. I personally think Behind the Sun and August are both excellent albums. They get a lot of flak from purists because Eric DARED to go pop, but I think they're just as good as Journeyman. As for Eric's playing? I'd say that peaked in the early 90's, right about the time of the 24 Nights shows.

I feel really sad - I always made my dad leave the station on any Clapton song that was playing - he'd roll his eyes but always leave it there, never caring how loud I turned it up.
