Thanks for creating thiss video! I was looking for examples of a good master vs a bad one, but thinking of it as art makes me realize that it's a little more complicated than that.

You worked on my band’s album back in the day. Bennylipp and The DCB!

I think the main problem is that people try to make it louder in the first place

It'd make so much sense for the music industry to have a global reset of default dB standards instead of contributing to the loudness war

EXACTLY! A song allows people to live somewhere else for a little while. I love that, and I’ve always had the same thought. And yes, I heard a quote one time that you never finish your song, you give up and release it. I see the wisdom in stopping when it has reached greatness and not giving papercuts to the music.

For me, if a song never seems to be satisfying, it is a "bad" song or it's the wrong time for it. Lay it back and go on with other songs.

We always trie to have the mix so good, that mastering is left only for loudness, as you can optimize a song at the master bus in the mixing process. No reason to EQ or compression on mastering. What do you think? Any reason to EQ or compressing AFTER the mix?

If you master as well as you recorded this video... I don't trust your advice.
