Originally posted in August 2010, this video is a re-edited version (upscaled to HD) that runs 2m 59s shorter than the original. This episode has been extensively re-edited as you can tell, significantly cutting down movie clips, a few jokes that I don't think aged particularly well, and generally tightening up the pacing. In Welshy's cameo, I've fixed both the aspect ratio issues, and also tweaked the lighting in some shots. But the biggest difference may be one you'll hear: I've applied noise reduction to all the on-camera and voiceover segments to eliminate the miniDV camera and tape noise that was persistent many of the early episodes. This was something I learned from editing the Stormbreaker episode, where I needed to apply it to Dom's voiceover, and then I got the idea to use it on some of the episodes I was re-editing to see if it would work, and I wish I had learned to do this sooner. It's not perfect, and I've tried not to completely erase it so it doesn't sound too odd, but hopefully it is a major improvement, and will be applied on episodes going forward, both new and old. One thing that is super-awkward is that this movie has a lot of alumni from the podcast How Did This Get Made, which I quite like (it's certainly helped out some long train journeys) and discovered well after this review, but there goes my chances of ever being invited on that show... The reason the year is listed in the title is because this got a Chinese remake in 2015, that by all accounts is even worse than this one. This has been re-posted to tie in with the releases of both Ocean's 8 and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, so enjoy!

Not gonna lie, Film Brain - out of all the rom-coms you've reviewed so far, this is hands down the worst one. Yes, even worse than The Ugly Truth. See, with The Ugly Truth at least there was an attempt at satire. The filmmakers failed miserably in that regard, but their intention was clear. Bride Wars, on the other hand, doesn't take place in any realm of reality. It relies on contrivances to tell its horrendous story because it knows that in real life the solution to the dilemma of Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson's characters would be a very simple but very effective one. The movie goes on and on and on about how these two are supposed to be the best of friends, right? Well, if this movie had any brain cells to rub together, and if Hudson's character really was a good friend (which she isn't, but I digress), she would've proposed a double wedding to Hathaway's character. That way, both of them would have their special days that they have dreamed about all their lives and what would make it even more special is the knowledge that one of them did something good for the other and helped her out in her time of need. And I'm just realizing that this would've made for a rather sweet and perfectly decent short film. But nope, we have to stretch this thin-ass premise to movie length and humiliate two talented actresses in the process and insult the audience's intelligence in the process!

I find this kind of "chick flick" movies more offensive than all the sexist comments I've read in KZbin. I absolutely loath these movies that paint women as such insipid creatures. And what's worst is that these characters often display personality traits of the Dark Triad. Such awful, terrible people.

You know the sad thing about this whole movie and it's "conflict"? It could have been fixed! Have the two weddings be at different times on the same date, make one get jealous of the others' more fancier wedding, replace most of the petty embarrassment attacks with more brutal sabotage like spiking the wedding cake and completely go with the black comedy satire Matt mentioned and the plot would have been fine! Sure, it might be crap but it would be a more watchable film than the film we got, especially towards the female demographic it was aimed at. Speaking of, women apparently hate this film. No joke. I found an online list of chick flicks that even women hate years ago and Bride Wars was one of them. Though i'm guessing if you one of those casual comedy movie watchers that just wants to laugh regardless of the movie's quality... maybe I could see a woman with a different mindset getting their kicks out of this...

Seriously, they could have just had a morning wedding and an evening wedding and then had their own receptions at a later date. It's not like the reception has to be had the moment after the I Do's. This would have allowed both of them to have their moments and be at each other's weddings. The writers really should have made it so only one slot was available, although it's not that rare for people to wait up to a year after a proposal to have a wedding so one of them waiting for another slot shouldn't have been a problem at all. And even I know all this despite being a girl who has never had much thought to weddings! Think of how quick it would have been for the writers to think past this lame 'war' and think up a couple of decent problems.

There,then the sabotaging and fighting wouldn't even have to matter-easy solution,dammit..! Eh..?!?
@Jessi22226 жыл бұрын
Very true, and of course would have made for a boring movie. Therefore, if they wanted a fallout and a 'sabotage the wedding' theme movie then why not go the rout of not having two bookings for one day? Or better yet why not have it so that Anne's character gets hit with an expensive problem and therefore can't afford the wedding unless it's on a specific day so therefore they have a reason to fight over something. I'm not saying the fight itself wouldn't be very petty, but you could at least sympathize with one of them in that case right?

Rae Johnson I assume the makers of this film thought that it was clever commentary that a wedding would drive friends into enemies, which is totally OK because they make up at the end when Anne Hathaway breaks up with Chris Pratt on the day of their wedding in front of all their family and friends. I don't know if I would have enjoyed a film where two women who are enemies fight over their weddings. I'm tired of the trope of women seeing each other as competition in movies.

dyeing back from blue (that has been on as if it was bleach/blonde, so longer than normal) to blonde involves bleaching, though - which could destroy her hair and turn it into string cheese or make it fall out - especially if she had weak or thin hair to begin with (which she probably has, since blonde hair is generally very thin compared with dark hair). It is never a good idea to put bleach on multiple times in one day. (... i dyed my naturally blonde hair dark green as a teenager and my parents made me go to a salon to remove the dye - still had greenish tint in the back where the hair was lighter from natural sun bleaching for months and every time my hair got wet it smelled like the remover, so i wouldn't recommend doing it o.O they didn't mind when i cut it down to 5mm, still don't know why they hated the green that much)

It's no secret that many women can turn into bridezillas when planning their wedding day. But the real reason behind this behavior may be rooted in the fairytales we grew up with. From a young age, we were taught to dream of finding our own prince or princess and living happily ever after. These fairytales often depict a perfect and beautiful wedding, which can become ingrained in our minds and lead to the desire for perfection on our own big day. And when things don't go as planned, it's easy to become a bridezilla.

"If the next available dates weren't until three years from now, then why were there bookings for this year?" Well... I'd imagine the two that backed out had brides like these two. Which meant the grooms were smart and called it off before making a get away out the window and escaping to Mexico. XD

Love this review. Also the ending is doubly silly when you realise that babies in no way arrive on strict schedules

One very high scriptwriter: "Quick, one of our characters is a lawyer, what do those sound like!?" Someone with a hint of reason still unburnt by years of drug abuse: "Ummm, you do realize YOU are writing the story, if you don't know how they sound like - change it." Someone who just woke up from a fever dream with their pants peed wet: "Ummm, "Legally, de facto, I'm like a law person and I do law but judicially it is now hammer time." " Scriptwriter: "I'm a genius!" The guy who actually wrote that: "I actually wrote that line of dialogue." Satan: "Yes, but your heart attack from all the drugs is coming in 3...2...1..." "You can have it as my last will." ~ Potty pants' final words

It's not like studios have armies of lawyers that they could just invite over to lunch and ask, "so, does this dialogue make even a shrew's left testicle worth of legal sense?"

Fun fact: this movie is rated PG. Yes, you read that right. This has male strippers and a story that CLEARLY is aimed at an PG-13 audience, and yet it got a PG rating? Why? What's the point? Did they really think this was kid-friendly or family-friendly?

Definitely a difference of opinions. Oh, the movie still sucks and both girls are horrible for supposed friends. But, I don't agree with a lot of sentiment. Sharing a wedding day might seem logical as they are such good friends but most girls want that day for themselves. There is nothing wrong with wanting that, especially if they have shared so much already. And unlike Mat, I feel Emma deserved the day more than Liz. She was engaged first and it was HER appointment she booked first to visit the plaza that Liz piggybacked on. She saved longer too where Liz JUMPED on the first available date without even asking if it was okay just because it's her parents anniversary. So, all in all, I feel Emma was more in the right but that's just me.

you know, I miss old slasher movies, now that halloween, it and child's play coming out, I wish the genre would stay for the next generation that would not grow on ghost movies and haunted houses.

I saw the trailer when it first came out and "boring" and kept walking. Yet it was a hit. Then again so was the "50 Shades" franchise and I found it entertaining. Though both were equally unrealistic but, when the guys did all the heavy lifting...I'd realized I was ready for 50 Shades 4 (rumor has it!) I need a vacation. I like the Film Brain site and look forward for more reviews on movies I avoided and may watch after all. Oh, I like your accent where're you from?
