This review was originally posted in March 2011, and has been re-edited for KZbin, running 1m 51s shorter than the original. As usual, cuts have been made to tighten up the pacing and to trim down the movie clips. I apologize for this video not being in the best quality, as it appears I didn't receive a master file (this episode was edited by my friend Chris), and the file I do have appears to have been converted back into a lower-res MP4. I used to post on Blip as FLV Flash files, but these would become glitchy and refuse to play, requiring them to be re-uploaded as MP4s. It seems I downloaded the original file, converted it and then deleted it, sadly. It's that version that was used as the source for this recut. Alas, this is the best I can do. Hope you can still enjoy it.

Film Brain just a small question but why are you ? Did have another channel that got taken down? Dont get me wrong i do like your videos im just confused.

My videos used to be on a site called Blip, which was bought by Maker, who was then bought by Disney, and collapsed. I've been slowly reposting my old Bad Movie Beatdown videos on KZbin, but they need careful re-editing due to the footage used, hence why this has been a slow process. There have been channels that have uploaded my videos, but they are unaffiliated with me and I don't receive anything from them.

I've always been a defender of Roland Emmerich due to the number of guilty pleasures of mine that he's directed; I remember checking this film (VHS format) out at the library after watching the rest of his filmography, and...yeah, I'm not gonna bother defending this one. Everything Matthew said here is pretty much correct. I'm guessing Emmerich probably thought he was paying homage to those other sci-fi films, but this film really is one big rip-off.

Why can't or won't Malcolm McDowell do good roles? He's an excellent actor -- young/indy directors must want to work with him. The last good film I saw him in was Gangster No. 1, and that was years ago.

I dunno, I consider this flick a guilty pleasure. Yeah, deriavtive as all hell but still... perhaps because I happen to like the copied-from-Alien- Production Design. Really good Soundtrack, too.

Amazingly this got film caught the interest of Hollywood Action Mega Producer Joel Silver who hired Emmerich to direct a Sci-Fi Action movie called Isobar that would star Sylvester Stallone (then a Big Star). Ultimately Emmerich left the project (which ended up never being filmed) and got signed to direct Universal Soldier.

Someone should do a mash up between this, Blade Runner, Alien, Aliens, Outland, Galaxy of Terror, Creature and any other smoky grated hallways and fans in space film to make it seem like all these films are taking place in the same general area.

What was the play of the grey-haired dude when he sabotaged his moon's defense? Did he plan to die a glorious death for the other mining company? Also did every other numbered moon had a traitor for the commanding officer? That would explain a lot. Or not.

Wow this is at least the 3rd movie, Malcolm McDowell's character dies through an explosion...you remember Blue Thunder or Star Trek Generations?;) I like Moon 44 by the way. If you are looking for illogical movies today, you don't have to look far. Moon 44 was also a pretty brave movie, I mean come on, how many 90's movies where a man got raped do you guys know?

Outland reworked with less budget & a fair dash of Top Gun (including all of it's homoerotic exchanges between characters 😂). And of course anytime Malcolm MacDowell wanders into a Sci Fi b-movie you know it's going to be nothing if not funnybad 😎

Man you are searching with a magnifying glass. Just lean back and enjoy this german low budget Alien coherent visually stunning aged well masterpiece;) Anyway good analysis. The empty magazine scene at the beginning is actually pretty nice, cause it refers to the last scene. And who the hell would have ever expected, that the bad guy from "Cobra" movie became a hero at the end...

Roland Emmerich made this, against all odds, on a tight budget in an former washing machine production facillity in Germany over 30 years ago. Given that, it looks pretty decent....You don't even get your audio up to the standarts of the mid 90ies let alone one attemt of a joke to land.

Well, cut me some slack, this was filmed on a £110 miniDV camera in 2011, and believe me, things moved pretty quick in camera times. (Isn't helping that this episode is from a second-generation master) I worked on the sound a lot in recent years.
