It’s bad news for the boat industry. In addition to that if you are looking to buy anything that has a motor, you are going to see prices fall dramatically. There’s so much inventory for you UTVs and ATVs. The RV industry is collapsing as well. #Boats #ATVs #RVs #Iallegedly #Recession #BankOfAmerica #Collapse #RetailCrime

That is why I never belong to any social media platform. I joined one of them for a month or so and the scammers were on me like bee’s to honey 🍯 A lifelong friend, her account or phone number was cloned. According to her there was an Organization giving out Grants to repair your home. Unknowingly I thought I was texting her through Messenger and she provided me with the information for a Grant. Now I grew up in a working class neighborhood and we were all a bit street wise. So this Impersonator told to go to a local drug store and get 5, $100.00 gift cards and give him the PIN numbers. Please don’t insult my intelligence, did he think I was going to a 24 hour drug store and buy these gift cards and give him the PIN numbers. Sorry Charlie that Con is as old as 3 card Monty used to rip off tourist in Times Square. Oh btw those Hardy Boy boats were called Peen Yan boats. They are beautiful boats but they require constant maintenance. Thanks for your videos Dan 🛶🚢🚤⛵️⛴️ Another thing I’ve learned about social media is once you start, they are like cockroaches, almost impossible to get rid of them 😂

I have a buddy who just purchased a used Carver 396 that was listed for $189k. The boat was on the market for 4 months. He made an offer of $125k which was initially rejected and the owner counter-offered at $150K. My buddy turned that offer down and stood on his offer of $125k. Three weeks ago the owner accepted the $125K which included all the taxes and winter storage fees.

I was talking to my sister the other day, she is in the car business and to say it nicely IT'S SLOW. She asked if I was interested in a newer car, and I laughed it off that I am about to put brakes on my Buick. I don't do car payments and as much as I hate mechanic work I fix everything myself. They I said, I am looking for a diesel pusher motorhome and a specific motorcycle if she has a customer needing cash to deal on a car, she asked about trading in my current car and motorcycle I said no been saving up for this and am in no hurry. She makes 8 to 10 times what I do and completely doesn't understand... how I have cash... every month a few dollars and every side gig... saved for what I want... It's the 5th of the month and I have had a half a dozen family and friends complaining they can't make their bills. I Praise God he taught me to stay out of debt.

Actually my wife and I enjoyed our boat as a docked condo. Ocean property cost in California is absurdly high. We found a marina in a wild life preserve with a great restaurant. Then found a steal on a cabin cruiser rebuilt by the previous owners life savings. Very nice marina with security, bathrooms ,showers, washer, dryers... Interesting perk was watching the 4th fireworks show from the boat. The park was closed but marina gate card holders were allowed in. For much less than renting a micro condo with a view we were actually on the water for a few hundred a month. In the end the boat was donated to a good cause, (training the sea scouts) I got a big tax write off. No, hassle with escrow fee's, commissions or negotiations...

I know personally of a man who was one of the original founders of Cathay Pacific Airlines out of Hong Kong - he drove a Toyota Delivery Van and lived in a Home made out of Shipping Containers - - dress like a common man - nothing fancy at all and yet also had a multi-million dollar home in New Zealand on the Water at the top of the North Island of New Zealand. Big boater here. On our 3rd pleasure boat - all paid for. Be super careful if you are gonna buy a used/bank owned boat. Boats require incredible upkeep costs. You might find a great deal - but if it wasn’t maintained properly by previous owner (very likely because they lost it to the bank). Some big costs to get the boat back up to proper condition.

Its the same with the horse industry. Many baby boomers had cheap horses that they boarded down the street for a few bucks a month. Now, the board is like $500 just for pasture. The middle class can no longer afford to do this. Maybe in the middle of the country the board is cheap, but the jobs are not there. With the end of the baby boomers, there will be an end to a lot of things.

I live by the gulf in Florida. I'm retired now. I've always had a boat and I still do. I'm lucky that I am mechanically inclined and love to twist wrenches on on the boat. The one thing I did years ago was that I bought my new boat cash. I don't want boat payments. The boat I have is going to be the last boat I'll ever have. I did see here in Florida that during covid, people bought a lot of new boats. I'd go out on a week day and the water ways were packed. That's going away now. They have boat payments now and some have slip fees and I'll bet they regret owning the boat now.

The boat, motorcycle and RV industry are taking a hit and it's going to get a lot worse. When we owned boats quite some time ago, my wife's late mother gave us a refrigerator magnet with the definition of a boat. "A hole surrounded by water into which you throw money". Yup. I do think that many people who own boats are "aging" out of boating. I'm seeing a lot of this in the RV industry as well; a transition for snowbirds from an RV to a park home. And young people today just aren't into it nor can they afford it. There was a spirt during Covid with the free money. But that party is over. I did just buy a new Segway ATV for $14k when they are asking $20k. So, yes, the deals are starting to trickle in as inventories get more and more bloated and interest payments on floor plans eat profits. I love this thing. It's my getaway into the mountains. With regard to helping the needy, if this country wasn't being run by globalists and climate zealots, we could take proper care of our veterans and our most in need.

What he walked by is not hundreds of thousands, you're looking at millions. A boat of a million plus in Southern California are a dime a dozen. This is coming from someone that has owned a yacht for over 42 years. I'll agree that not seeing any boat moving out of the slip on a nice day is pretty amazing given the location. My boat sits in a marina where you have to winterize the boat for the winter. Most of the insurance companies I've dealt with, require a "lay up period" where you are not covered if something happens during the winterization period.

That is one of the signs of a bad recession when people stop this kind of buying. I had a co-worker that paid $250k for a twin engine boat. They didn't setup the cooling right so he burned out one of the engines but warranty replaced it (never did run the same). Two years later the second motor burned out but it was now out of warranty. $25k to get it replaced (25 boat units). He was in a fancy boat club in San Diego and fee's etc. were crazy. He dropped another $50k over the next few years only to sell it for $35k. He bought a porsche for $100k and some change as he used to say. He burned out the engine and spent $25k to put a new engine in only to decide he wanted a Tesla. He goes to sell it and they only offer $8k. The dealer said it didn't matter that he put in a new engine because it's all based on odometer miles. So the bottom lines is if you are getting rid of a money pit don't throw more money down the pit.

When you realize how much land the U.S. Government owns - mostly west of the Mississippi - they could begin selling it off to raise money! In Nevada, over 80% of the land is owned by our government; overall, about 47% of the land in western states is government-owned. I don't recall anywhere in the Constitution where it says the government should be in the real estate business!

Sold my fishing boat in 2021 that I had owned for 10 years and made $1500 on the deal, also sold my KTM dirt bike that I raced for 2 years and made another $1000. It was very strange to see this back then but I knew at some point the worm was going to turn.

Glad you mentioned the Galley Cafe, I thought you were strolling there near bye, Promontory Bay and Point in background.. Mertyl & Eddie a very fond memory as I worked in kitchen of the Cafe back in the day 1976 or so, need to drop in and catch up with an order of Chili Size ! . The Golden Rule of doing to others as you'd have them do to you and or love your neighbor as your self ,, seems cliche to say but I'll say it anyway, as when times are good or bad , you want that in your world, whether you get a deal or no deal on the stuff you try to buy. I want to buy the house on the SW corner of Little Island , sail my boat down there and tie up at the dock in front of it....good times.. something tells me the market won't accommodate me yet for that !:))

As much as love motor boats/yachts, they sure if you let them, guzzle a lot of fuel. A 54' yacht trip I was on, from Hawaii to Vancouver = 2000 gal of fuel @ 7 knots, continuously, (2 gal/hr each) for 18 days. The tanks/bladders were almost empty upon arrival. A sea trial, 17 knots/hr, both engines were sucking 28 gal/hr, each.

Dan, The story about the homeless veteran and how you walked over and gave him money so he could eat is why I like and respect your channel. At least you practice what you preach. That’s what being a Christian is all about. There’s another guy on KZbin who goes by the name of Jeremiah Babe who just goes around lifestyle shaming people who are unfortunately struggling to survive. That bastard lives high on the hog and likes to put down the homeless and doesn’t do shit to help someone in need . It makes him feel like he’s superior to everyone else when he’s actually worse than most. He’s always talking about his house, his gold and looks like he never had to struggle a day in his life. He’s a KZbin punk. What I like about your channel is that you keep it real and you speak from the heart and you walk the walk. I just wanted to thank you for that. It gives me hope for humanity.

Hey dan, you should check out the musical instrument market. People who bought good-quality stuff 1-3 years ago are now trying to sell it for near what they paid for it, while the used stuff at the music stores sells for less. Crazy. BOATS - Back in my high school days I had a friend who went to Corona del Mar high school. His father was a filthy-rich lawyer, partner in a law firm, and had a big, opulent boat in Newport Harbor. He never took it out to sea, it was simply to entertain clients with parties and cruises around Newport Harbor. All the costs were written off as business expenses. For fun ask any loan friend you might have what the interest rate is on a boat loan right now (compared to housing or car laons); be prepared to pick your jaw off the floor.

Hello Dan years ago I used to get the old hand me down boats we had on a lake in NJ. Well I repaired the the nose of this old wooden Hardy Boys boat with a walk through and a hatch in the back for the gas tank. Dan it had an old White 50hp. Mercury outboard. The lower end needed to re-worked with a flush outlet or water jacket so I could use it out at Freeport LI. I had a great time with this boat. The Marina had liquor licenses on the wall for almost 100 years except during Prohibition. I don’t remember the name of this Marina but it Iconic to there area. But I was a young kid and just got my drivers licenses, just out of HS. I was looking for something that was fun, boating is cool, but you really know the rules of the seas, or Maritime Rules. But because I had known plans to go to college, I registered for the Draft. Great fully the War ended before being required to go to boot camp. After the War was over, I decided to go to a Trade School. That was the smartest decision I’ve ever made. With a Trade a person can almost work anywhere in the Country or World. And yes there are some amazing women in my Trade, why do people think that women should work as only a secretary or something like this ? During WW2 woman built and flew many of the Fighter Planes and Bombers which were made in the USA or over in the UK. In my humble opinion, boats are the gift that keeps on taking. I just left my boat at the Marina, because I couldn’t afford the winter dry dock fee. But I will leave this comment with one final note 🎵 If You See A Veteran, Thank Them For Their Service !!!

Here in the UK it’s also marina fees! For 6 months of the year the fees have to be paid and the boat is not being used for this reason autumn and winter is a good time to find a bargain. Fuel costs have shot up and our cheaper red diesel has been effectively outlawed to use in boats. It’s not only power boats though. Sailing boats are not fetching good prices. In the UK we do have the weather against us. A good summer can help to increase demand.

I agree with part of your comments, but not all boat classes have been affected the same way. I have been patient and have followed pricing on center consoles for 3 years and we are still seeing private sellers and dealers list used boats that are 2-3 years old for 10-20% over the original purchase price. Because the production boat builders increased their pricing so significantly since covid, it appears we just now started to see dealers stack inventory. I do think we will start seeing more dealers fold if the current potential buyer population remains patient and declines to pay these crazy prices.

Since I was a teenager some 35ish year ago, I've dreamed of living aboard a boat full time (south of the snow belt). Doing much of my own maintenance (and staying single) could make that lifestyle about the same as my mortgage, HOA dues, insurance, utilities, and upkeep. Problem is, nowadays the nicer independent marinas where you would WANT to live are being bought up by large marina management companies who prohibit boaters from making their boat slip their mailing address. If you keep your vessel seaworthy and in good repair, and are a considerate neighbor, what difference does it make? I know of one marina (Charleston SC) that requires you to buy a slip (starting at $40K for 40 feet of dock) and then pay quarterly yacht club dues; membership gives you access to on-shore amenities like laundry room, showers, bar/lounge, swimming pool, and 1 or two parking spaces. But places like that seem increasingly rare.
