Giving it a bit of thought, I think this plane's "greatness" in the eyes of most people is due to the fact that what it has mixed with War Thunder's core gameplay experience in Air RB works well together. It's not winning dogfights against other better fighters but with how the game works and against the average playerbase I do not feel it needs to.

I think consistency is a factor in making a plane good. Sure, the G55S is no specialist, but the ability for it to be consistently good (if boring) makes it a good plane. Now if only the JU288C horde would bugger off..

0:33 with 75-80% prop pitch you can close radiators to 5%, so draggy radiators problem is completely gone. Lower pp doesn't hurt thrust as much as on most other planes. You lose maybe 0,5m/s climb because of 75% prop pitch but with 100% rads you lose 2 m/s climb and it lowers your top speed by 60-80kph..... So yeah

That's why G55s are faster than Bf 109F4 and G2. G55 Doesn't overheat at all with closed rads, while 109s overheat even with 100% of their draggy radiators (on most maps. on cold maps 109s are faster bc no overheat)

Then the YAK3U and the YAK17, they weren't that good prior to the weapon buff but they are insanely good now

It's due to D28 simply being better, even after having their BRs switched. N has no energy retention and has piss poor climb. Combination of these two things makes it that so to take a fight you need to have a really big advanatage (which you likely won't have due to piss poor climb) or you will be forced to fly in a straight line or dive away.

I have a 4-1 kd in this thing is easy to fly but its not that good against the opposition ive never had issues killing this plane in the p51, bf109, yaks, corsairs and basically everything else in the moon, the g55s is the definition of a plane nice at everything but not excellent at anything, and experiencend player can use this to a great advantage since you have the ability to do something again anything you face.

Why does the P-51 and P-47 series get really wonky in high speed dives, almost ruins the plane. Is this tendency based on real flight characteristics or some game induced thing for balance? Next I loved your targeting video, and request you do a approach to the fight at the start vedio. For example, do you always side climb, how much off center do you side climb and do you go into the fight before you reach altitude advantage if your team is losing? Last I tell players that shooting is one of the most important skills to learn. All the best maneuvers in the world will not help if you miss the target. Do you agree?

The G.55S the quintessential sl grinding work horse, it's better that it's not outstanding. It would suck if they nerfed the SL gains or jacked up it's br/repair cost if it were over performing. Middle of the road means steady and reliably silver kitties for my top tier jet purchases.

Alright so im a pilot who has 163 battles in that plane though I admit that im nowhere near as good as DEFYN I find the G.55S to actually be a really fun plane to play it loves knife fights so you can go right into a furball and come out very alive with quite a few kills it climbs really well when using MEC, i've been basically co-alt with a lot of 109s how i tend to fight bnzers is that if they extend i just climb, usually equalizing the fight then and there and then if they go vertical, if and only if there are no other enemies in the area, i use it's nice stall characteristics and landing flaps to go straight up with them and then i meme them with mineshells as they're really slow due to going straight up the only planes i really hate in that plane are the P-47s lol everything else seems manageable I liked the video though, I do like hearing differing opinions

G.55 S0 is the best of the series BR to performance wise. S1 and S are kinda decent, althought both are 0.3 BR too high S1 maybe even 0.7. 5.0 is inside the Ju-288 and F2G black hole. I enjoy S0 and S1 KINDA, but it works best if enemy furballs or commits to attack and allows me to equalize energy in a dive - this plane is the god of high-speed turn which makes reversals v. enjoyable and effective. But catching people who are aware of your presence is v. difficult, it's kinda like playing Spitfire vs. players who are paying attention - sometimes a goddamn nightmare of futile chases.

This is the plane I bought she tbe Italian tree came out, unlocked the entire tree in it, never playing it again, it used to be so over powered my kill death ration was like 1:7 or soemthing silly, but I forgot after a while, went into a game with some friends got friendly shot down while laughing then next game had to pick between landing am maybe dying or staying barely flying untily team found the last guy, I tried landing and died, I can't remember my exact kills/death but it's absurd lol Edit just checked my KD ratio 190 kills 29 deaths, so about 6.55 K:D

about time somebody said the typhoon is under-br'd. Maybe it just needs a flight model adjustment, probably tone down the climb rate (top speed as well maybe). I compare it to something like the f4u-c and I don't see a single reason why i'd take it over the typhoon, with the exception of the roll rate. Typhoon is one of the most stable platforms in sim, to the point where it makes you wonder why even bother with the tempest. j2m2 is just ridiculous at 4.3 as well

I hadn't flown the F5E, but since it is a slow plane with relatively poor climb rate it might struggle. However if you enjoy dogfighting with friends go for it. I went for the MiG19, I'm dogshit with it in air RB but I have fun fighting other friends on mig19.

It isn't worth. Most of the time you are relegated in a full support role and forced to fight together with a team mate. Now that everyone has pulse doppler and radar missiles attempting a dog fight is basically suicide. It's still very good in the right situation but the missile spam is very annoying to deal with and the fact its repair cost is still 20k silver lion doesnt help

The fact is the spitfires are mostly under tiered lol. Faster, better turning, better climbing than the equivalent Italian planes. The re.2005 for example fought p-40 p38 spit mkv and later mk9 in game it faces crap from 1950s. They didn't even see ridgeback p47 or P51 irl but in game good luck here's post war super props.....oh and your repair is 33k sl.

I usually play safe and engage when i am certain i can get a kill using altitude and energy but in the g55 s i really suffered because it can't retain energy and all of your advantage is gone in a second. I really do not like this plane.

I must be one of the exceptions then. I have this plane and I don't do well in it. It's like it has no real strength. Some other planes turn better, others climb better, some are faster etc... I find that unless the other pilot is bad, you're done unless you're excellent at defensive flying which I'm not. I would take many other planes at this BR and actually do a lot better in those than with this plane. At least with the other planes, you actually know what they are good at and if you are disciplined you can have success in them.

It's a jack of all trades plane. More then knowing the plane itself you have to know your enemies more, you can outturn germans with no problem and i believe out energy a spitfire with no issues. It still has a german engine, pretty good maneuverability and good energy retention and lets not talk about the guns. You really just have to know the situation

J7W1 is one of the worst single engine fighters for its BR. You don't climb well, you don't turn well, if you are not careful you can get yourself into a flat spin in the normal ARB control mode. You are also not fast when compared to the things you face. Only nice thing is guns - but then again, you will need to get them onto something first. Skip it, it really is not worth the time.

I know the p-47n has terrible energy retention and bad climb rate, but personally I find it kinda fun. It rolls well and turns very well at high speed which no one expects. Are the teams I face just terrible so I could be in just about any plane and do well or what? Also I always hear people say the p-47d is very good but in my experience is just worse than the n.

Which P-47D? The 25 is indeed worse but the 28 is better. Same engine performance basically but the D-28 has a lower min fuel loadout which makes it so it can climb better.

@@tobipolley3322 I used to prefer the N-15 as well when I got rid if the mediocre P-47D-25. Later i got the D-28, oh man was it good. It was basically the N's engine on a lighter aircraft (at least with the min fuel especially) at a lower BR. Rightfully the D-28 is now 5.0, but the N went to 4.7 in return. I mean fair I guess. The N especially feels a little weird to me now since the FM revamp, but maybe that's because I hadn't played it in a while.

@@Wotplaya4 The D-25 and D-28 don't have the same engine performance, that's what makes the D-28 so much better. D-28 has 150 octane fuel running 70"Hg manifold pressure which gives it almost 2800hp compared to the 2300hp of the D-25. The fuel load is the same. It's just that the D-28 (due to having more power) burns more fuel so it has less "minutes" of fuel.

G55S is a prime example of how bad most allies player is that it gets up BR to 5.0 with a really mediocore performance. When it was released at 4.0, everyone is using it because it was a 109 that has turn rate. Making it extremely easy to deal with any allies plane at its BR. Especially due to how 90% allies player do not care about climbing and blame everything to bias instead of brain issue. Then snail gave in and push it out to 5.0. Extremely sad and now G55S is barely anything.

The sotto at 4.0 is average as well. 4.0 is a hyper competitive br bracket with stuff like the bf109 f4, the yak 3, j2m2, xp50, yak 9u and others dominating the field and other planes are simply not as good. Which isn’t to say that you cannot have results in the g55, by all accounts it’s a pretty simple plane to fly that kills people who try to dogfight incorrectly. The issue is that when someone in a yak 3 or 109f4 decides that you’re dead, you die. Provided they don’t just fly into your guns*.

the plane loves knife fights, can turn with basically anything that it faces (with the exception of some japanese planes and sometimes spitfires and yaks) it has a really good armament and it seems to not do anything badly so

It was good at 4.3 but it was still easy to counter in a lot of planes there, it's not good at 5.0 anymore. But considering you never reply to any arguments I am going to assume you're the troll since you literally only ever talk shit. It makes sense though, this plane is extremely easy to do well in with it's absolute entry level skill floor so it's probably the only plane you get kills in 😂 Go ahead show me who you are, prove me wrong. Of course you say that, you have no idea what you're talking about. I got 130 kills and died 5 times with a 95% winrate you got 160 and died 86 times with a 57% winrate I think the difference is pretty clear. Just because I call the only plane you don't do horrible in average doesn't mean I am doing bad in it. at 4.3 it was good but ab-useable by anything fast. Now its 5.0 and gets outran by things in a down tier. Feel free to provide literally any argument other than baseless statements though.
