Im really bad with mental character obsession. I make up characters in my head, and then if I'm not happy with them, i try to change my mental image... but it doesn't work very well.... or I get annoyed if I don't have a clear mental image of a character. OR if I see an actor or actress as the character and i don't like that actor or actress... but i can't stop thinking of them as the character. thats happened to me before too. I just get weirdly obsessive about that sometimes... i have always wondered if I'm alone on this. haha

No, you are not alone with this problem. I can't finish a book if I'm not able to get a clear mental picture of (or not feeling a connection to) at least the main character. Also I hate it if I'm unable to envison the world a story is taking place in. It's like trying to board an airplane to an amazing holyday destination and not having your ticket (if that makes any sense to you?) And actors or actresses in book to movie adaptations, who do not look anything like the picture in my head are the worst!

IM EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE HAHA I read so quickly usually in 1 or 2 sittings bc i HAVE TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS then im mad at myself for not reading slower! ESPECIALLY w series tho!! i cannot leave a world until i know every single detail of every last book in it!! I stretched out lord of shadows to 5 days tho which absolutely never happens 🤣

freeleigh I marathon series too and I prefer to read in one sitting. BUT IT'S NOT ALWAYS A GOOD THING. For example, when I'm reading in the evening/at night (as always basically) I feel like I wanna finish a book, and it ends up with me putting an all nighter. AND THE NEXT DAY FOR EXAMPLE I GO ON A TRIP IN THE MORNING. And guess what I do the next day? ... Yes, you guessed right. The cycle starts over and over again. I felt this lack of sleep when I was at my grandma's house last week. I finished three books on these four days, and slept... Not a whole lot. I kinda regret that
@BonesandBooth92

Isabelle_ Depending on how quickly i zip thru books i usually have to read them again bc i missed so many details the first time! (i say that as if i wouldnt re-read it anyways 🤣) Or like for series i cant separate the details of each book bc the second i finished 1 i immediately picked up the next one haha

I have the book buying issue, I end up buying more when I have no room-guys I DO NOT EVEN HAVE A BOOKSHELF! Like there are times when I go into a bookshop and stand there for like ten minutes holding a book and having an internal argument with myself about whether or not it's a good idea to buy it. And I end up doing it. Most times. I need help.

It takes me SO long to finish series. I can completely relate with getting tired of being in the same world, even if you're loving it. I think this problem stems from the fact that I just have such a big variety of books that I want to read, and I want to read ALL OF THEM.

I don't have that problem of not wanting to get to the end of the book because I get antsy to finish it and see how everything ends or works out. My worst reading problem is probably spoiling myself by doing stuff I know I shouldn't do (ex: flipping to the end of a chapter to see how long it is and accidentally seeing a spoiler, checking social media when I follow people who read books I want to read, and especially checking book wikis. I got spoiled for Lord of Shadows by checking the Shadowhunters wiki because I forgot what happened in Lady Midnight and needed to refresh my memory).

Thank you for admitting that you are bad at finishing stories! I’ve always be super self conscious about it, even books that I loved, because I get distracted with another book, or more likely, youtube, instagram and you name it. Knowing that it happens to even a super reader likes you makes me feel so much better about it!

I also get these frenzies when I’m buying more books that I’m actually planning to read, but it’s ok cause I mostly buy them second hand, so the money goes to charity, and if I end up not reading it, I can donate it back, so there’s that.

I totally understand not finishing a book so that the charecter may live. I started reading "The Velveteen rabbit" like 10 years ago. I have since then, read it I think twice, and I always stop at the same time. When The boy is sick and they need to burn The Velveteen rabbit. Cause if I don't keep reading, The rabbit doesn't get burned, and another toy lives.

I agree with your first two points, especially when it comes to series. I don't want series to end because I've grown so attached to the characters, and if I try to read a series straight through I get tired of the world for awhile and need a break. I tend to read one or two books in a series, read something else, and then go back and read a couple more from the series. This not only helps me to stretch out the storyline, but also keeps me from growing tired of the plots in series.

I read the last few pages of a book before I start it. That way, I know how it ends and I don't have that anxiety you're talking about. If I start reading a series, and the last book is out, I'll look up the wiki to see who ends up together, who dies, etc. That settles me enough that I can read the series or book slowly, and really enjoy it, knowing that I'm already at peace with what happens at the end.
