I think this is honestly the best Bad Religion song. (And I love every BR song all the way down to How Could Hell)

I swear, the outtakes from The New America are the four best Bad Religion tracks.

Lyrics: “Little girl's eyes open wide Two ways to go but you can't decide Follows all rules, has no say Ends up in somebody else's play Close your eyes cause you just don't need them anyway Lose as directed, don't take no chance Don't hinge your life upon circumstance Mystery and misery go hand in hand So you better follow the master plan Don't use your head, lose as directed Little boy sitting in his master's arms Safe and protected from any harm Wants to be a man, wants to branch out But he's told not to ask questions or doubt Close your mind, it's a book of instructions now Lose as directed don't take no chance Don't hinge your life upon circumstance Mystery and misery go hand in hand So you better follow the master plan Don't use your head, lose as directed Lose as directed Let's go! Monkey see, monkey do Just another animal in the zoo Got four wall security Never even have to read a recipe But it's not exactly what you would call free Lose as directed, don't take no chance Don't hinge your life upon circumstance Mystery and misery go hand in hand So you better follow the master plan Don't use your head Lose as directed ( x6 ) You lose!”

I think Bad Religion peaked at Generator and had still some left-overs of that awesomeness for Recipe for Hate, and then it went away because of bean counters at Atlantic reigning them in into a commercial mindset, which they have just started to recover from. Since Process of Belief, each of their album has been better than the previous one, and we can only hope they get back to the level they were at around the release of Generator.

"A song that makes you want to sing along!" 100% true hahaha probably the best BR song also: the guitar part at 1:30 sounds like a rock christmas song :D

my top 3 BR lps The Grey Race(1at BRIAN BAKER BR lp!!), No Control, The Empire Strikes First(That Tour was Amazing!!), Next 2 would be Suffer & True North!! (THATS 1 lp from each decade!!) I didn't like Stranger Than Fiction that much at first but the more I listen to it & other lps whch didn't hit me 1st time the more I listen to them the better I like them! My top 5 all hit me first time esp Suffer & No Control blew me away when I heard them on realease, I wasn't big on US Punk bands other than the DKs & Minor Threat hanginwith Snuff (who always had these great U.S.bands on the tape box,in the tour van (that's where I got the nickname Danny Bombhead cos my love drink & drugs too the excess!!) so I heard BR, Dag Nasty et al, v fond memories this was the original Snuff line up, + Duncan teaching me the words too their songs (no releases at the beginning!) 'Over The top of a larger in a wineless winebar, I can see the sun set over Blackbird Hill' got goosebumps when we actually went over Blackbird Hill in the van. anyway "You're going home in a cosmic ambiance" a fave thrase f mine which is in title of "Snuff Said...." 1st lp!!!!

EXACTLY! The instrumentation may not sound like a BR song but the lyrics are VERY much in tune with natural BR.

I see. Well, I don't dislike those albums. I love most of their records for what they are, not for what they could be.

They should really do more songs with a swing beat like this! Also love it in Before You Die

Maybe he did. But I love those albums. The Gray Race is brilliant, No Substance isn't the strongest album by any means, but it still has some great songs. The New America offers mostly genious pieces of music. In my opinion.

All this arguing over BR and Green Day is silly. Go back and listen to the Dead Kennedys song Chickenshit Conformist. It's not about being "harder core than thou". Punk isn't about sounding just like Bad Religion (as cool a sound as that is). Those of you old enough to remember punk in the late 70's/ early 80's know that most of the bands sounded totally different from one another yet were still punk bands. Punk is an attitude, not a certain sound.

@Pogokid150 well I am sure if this song had feelings it would hate you too . I like it , I can't help but sway back and forth
@LeoT41613 жыл бұрын
@ZombieKi11er52 Correction, Green Day used to be punk. Now Green Day is essentially harder pop. They aren't half the band they were in the 90's and even early 2000's. I'm 14 and I have the brain power to see where music falls in terms of genre.
@GaribaldiInTheMaking15 жыл бұрын
keep in mind that stranger than fiction was their best selling album and the gray race has some of their biggest hits (punk rock song, a walk, cease) so I would agree with you that no substance and new america were a downer but thats pretty much it

@GDookie16 I would assume this song came before that song. Either way, this song is far superior.
@JohnZackarias16 жыл бұрын
That's where you're wrng: It IS relevant. You were mentioning similarities between the songs on The Gray Race in a negative sense. Yet you like all the other albums even though they contain even more similarities.

IMO the newer songs are better than some of the older stuff (no offence, I like them too). And I don't know why Brett's songs are bad. They are just as good as songs from Suffer or No Control or Into the Unknown (because it's not a bad album)
@BareBjarneBetjent16 жыл бұрын
You got a point about the choruses, but I still disagree with you cuz that doesn't bother me much. The songs are lovely, especially Pity the Dead. Both the melody and the lyrics are lovely in that song. I might have a special bond to the album because it was the first one I heard of Bad Religion. But that also means it was the album that started my love for Bad Religion.

@ZombieKi11er52 It's surprising to see that a fourteen year old likes this kind of music, not in a bad way either. It gets tiring to hear so many people call Greenday nowadays punk, though. Good band, no longer punk. I figured you were like the guys in highschool who always tried to argue that Greenday was still punk. It gets fucking irritating. Chill out, bud.
@XBlackFlagX16 жыл бұрын
>>Since Suffer - there IS no bad Bad Religion album! I'm guessing you're referencing Into the Unknown and that 'since Suffer' was inclusive rather than exclusive (as in 'after Suffer, but not Suffer since it was a bad album). Personally I have to disagree. Everything from the Atlantic Records era was pretty much forgettable. Outside of Recipe for Hate, all of these albums had maybe 2 songs worth listening to, each. And the post-Atlantic records are only marginally better (4 or 5 songs).
@JohnZackarias16 жыл бұрын
Far from brilliant? Oh I disagree, I completely love the album. But I can't see why you would dislike it because the choruses are "so similar". How about complaining about almost every song on Suffer following the same beat and type of riffing?
