Obviously as pointed out by the other commenters, there's a strong resemblance to The Lie, which ended up on The Process of Belief, but I also hear a strong resemblance between the backing vocal "me and you" and the backing vocals on Parallel from The Gray Race. Lots of good pieces here but you can see why it's a b-side and the pieces ended up in other songs.

when my son was 3 years old he sings along saying "we like crispy tenders!" And it warms my heart that he loves Bad Religion and punk bands like his old man. Rock on my son! Rock on!

This is one of my all time faves. I think I remember listening to this around 2001. Many people in the comment section have already pointed out the strong similarity with The Lie. When I first heard The Lie I thought oh it's that Pretenders riff. Love this song so much. I've been an avid listener of BR since around 1992.

I really like this song. I'm one who likes both BR's poppy and punkier stuff. Give it up for The New America.

Yeah, I do still like The New America, but will not go so far as to say I still like No Substance. :P I feel like the band was in a bad place at that time, and while Todd Rundgren apparently pissed Greg Graffin off in the studio, the result was probably better than it could have been. Rundgren also pissed off XTC, but the end product was their best album, Skylarking.

I know what you mean, but I disagree. I think The New America is a great album with many awesome songs. Songs with soul. Anyway, this song is kinda cool. Catchy chorus.
@lostinrachelseyes15 жыл бұрын
it's kinda funny casue a lot of their b-sides are better than what they actually put on the album. Most likely they didn't have much choice or say in the mixing and production of their records when they were at atlantic. Still glad they went cause they would have gotten too big had they stayed with epitaph and that could have possibly destroyed them as a whole.
@vxicepickxv3 ай бұрын
One of the reasons was probably to avoid having to avoid a potential conflict of interest with Brett as the owner of Epitaph. He had to leave the bad because Offspring and Green Day were becoming too difficult to manage while he was out on tour.

@Filmorethepreist Exactly. Songs evolve, it's not like they promote this song and the lie as different current songs. This song just became what is now the lie. It can take years to make a song into its final state, happens to me constantly

@BobOfTheSickness16 жыл бұрын
where the hell did this come from?
@MRMUG2415 жыл бұрын
Normally Davethebrave makes some relatively dumb comments, but I agree with what he is trying to say. New America was a "poppy" album leaving something to be desired on a few tracks. People who are die hard "Suffer" or "No Control" fans probably cringe at some tunes. I am with Dave on this one. Half that album rocks hard, the other half not so much. And by the way, the song NEW AMERICA, is really terrible. All BR fans know that, even if they like the song.
@Filmorethepreist14 жыл бұрын
So they recycled a few chords. You try writing fifteen albums and coming up with new chords. Besides, thats the style of the Cali. punk they were born into.
