Same-ish! I’m close to retirement age, but have absolutely no desire to move down to Florida to the Villages. LOL! You’re channel popped up on my feed one day and I got hooked! 🪝 Guess I just find it interesting to see what goes on in a retirement village type environment. You two are a super cute couple AND Gizmo is the star of the show! ❤️🐶 Best of luck to you both in your retirement!🎉

We decided we were going to move here when we were 45. We didn't actually move till we were 58, because that's how long it took to get the kids out and on their way after reaching 55. We each have several more years to work, so we often have to explain to locals that we still work so they realize we can't just go do things during working hours. But we like it here a lot, it's a great community even if you're still working. We spend 13 years getting ready to come here, paring away at our stuff, letting the kids know we weren't just going to store their excess stuff forever, and in the final few years before the move doing a whole bunch of work on our house preparing it for sale because every dollar there would be that much more toward a new house here!

I'm not that much younger than you two. It was tough to watch the 9:00 minute mark and have you discuss how much you loved your home & possessions. Man shed, three car garage, amazing property, everything I have today and love. I have the storage units with the GI Joes, models, baseball cards, old photos, etc. I have kept everything from my childhood and beyond. How in the world did you muster the courage to pick up the GI Joe you spent your childhood playing with and tossing it in the garbage? Was there a limit to what you could part with and not breakdown and cry?

Four months ago my Dad moved from the home he and my mom built in 1964. My sisters did yeoman's work cleaning out 55 years worth of stuff. They rented a dumpster for 2 weeks. My Dad is now in a nice 1 bedroom apartment in a senior citizens apartment building. If/when I move to The Villages in a few years I will be traveling light. My furniture is not worth moving 1,200 miles.

Gizmo is so patient. My brother-in-law & sister-in-law lived in the villages the last 12 years. They had 3 different new homes, ended up near Fenney. Sadly, my brother-in-law in law (husband’s brother), 79 years young, passed in March, 2020 of heart disease. We visited every winter & loved our visits, he was in the Villages Rehab & hospice & treated well! My sister-in-law, also, 79, stayed till November, 2020 & has moved back to a senior apartment in NJ near her daughter & grandchildren (they wanted her to do so.) She sold her house to the 2nd buyer with everything in it, lucky folks. Miss this winter’s trip, but Covid would have prevented it. Sadly, my husband’s other brother, 77, died in November in Okeechobee, Fl of Covid. My other sister-in-law has chosen to stay in her over 55 community there as she has relatives and friends. We loved both Brothers & sister-in-laws and loved our trips to see them. The Villages is a real nice place, enjoy it while you are well!

My mortgage and the cost of gardeners and landscapers here in The Villages is less than the rent on those apartments! They had better be really nice apartments! Seriously, though, they are just a short stroll away from the Town Square of Brownwood, and you know what they say about location. Prices are higher closer to the squares. We're 10 minutes by golf cart from Lake Sumter Landing, 20 minutes from Brownwood, and just a little further from Spanish Springs. Our complete cost of living in a house here is less than just the rent for in The Lofts, never mind the extra fees and bills on top of that.

This is for Harley. Instead of trailering your bike, look into the Auto Train. If you are within a few hour drive (3-5hrs) from Lorton Va, the auto train drives straight through to Sanford FL, which is less than an hour from The Villages. You can load up your car with stuff, and trailer your bike onto the train. Then you kick back and enjoy the ride. Enjoy a nice dinner and go to sleep. You wake up at 8am in sunny Florida.

Another interesting video. Love how you both try to help newbies and wanna bees with ho eat info to questions on TV. Regarding the question of whether the Developer turns ownership of the neighborhoods, Rec centers etc over to the homeowners once built out. My understanding is that in part the answer is yes. That is where the CDD’s come in. The districtgov.org website has a lot of information on the various management departments of TV and Gold wing-nut has a series of excellent KZbin videos on this topic. It seems there is a lot of confusion about this so to anyone interested - check out those sources.
@JERRYANDLINDA3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to explain that, dorebea. We really appreciate it.
@saundby3 жыл бұрын
Yup, we have the district government and the Amenities Committees. The Developer turns it over to them once it's built out, and funding comes through the Amenities fee, and is shared between districts to cover special situations through the Project Wide Fund for most of The Villages. It's a little different for the older districts (Districts 1, 2, and 3), but similar.

I’ve been sad to leave every place I’ve lived for about 15 minutes. Will I be sad to leave my current home which I’ve never liked (the neighborhood not the house)? Sure. Honestly, I was very sad when I left my first house on Lake Superior and my second house when I moved to Detroit. That move I was sick to my stomach. You adjust. I was very happy to leave one apartment I lived in for about 7 months. I hated every second there. If I moved to The Villages, I’d be anxious, but so very excited. I just learned there’s a Mayo Clinic in Florida. My doctors are at a Mayo satellite and it’s very hard to have to move away from that kind of medical care. Now I wouldn’t have to. I just haven’t researched the location.

Hi, David. Thank you so much for your kind words. We have been here for a little over 2 years. The 1st year we were here a hurricane was bearing down on Florida and we bugged out. The hurricane never really came to fruition. We did all the prep work and gathered supplies, battened down the hatches, brought in all the outdoor furniture, plants, etc. This past fall a hurricane was coming and we did much of the same, but it never really developed and we got lucky. We stayed put for that one. From talking to all of our neighbors here, this area is seldom hit by the stronger hurricanes. Knock on wood.

My mom moved here in 2004, just in time for 4 hurricanes to come through! They got out in their motor home when their house was still under construction, but once their house was built, they have stayed put ever since. Irma went right overhead and they didn't even lose power. My sister and her husband live in Matlacha near Naples, on the west coast, and this is where they evacuate to now. They stayed here for a week with Irma, and had no idea if their house would still be there when they came home (it was, their neighboring island of Sanibel took the brunt of the storm.) We are so far inland that hurricanes typically don't have any power left to them by the time they get here. There's always a chance of a fluke, but between my neighbors and my mom, almost everyone just makes sure they bring in stuff from the yard and open lanai, and rides it out. Tornadoes have been more a threat. here than hurricanes. But even at that, problems are so rare that I remember my mom and stepdad taking us out in 2007 to see the house that had been damaged in the Village of Caroline by the tornado. They had to point out the damage on the corner of the garage for me to notice it, and I had had worse at my old house from regular windstorms in winter! It was funny that people were coming by in their carts to gawk at the damaged house! Probably the best place in Florida to be when a hurricane comes.

I love motorcycles and from the Harley-Davidson factory they really are not that loud. Owners have "straight pipes" installed as options which give the motorcycle that thunderous sound. Music to some, horror to others.
