We had the same thing happen. We were in Washington DC on vacation. With our camper and 2001 Chevy Trailblazer with 230,000 and transmission went out. We had to buy a chevy suburban at the same dealership Lindsey to get home with the camper and kids. . Great people.

Thanks Rusty! That sucks about your truck! I can relate, I had an engine malfunction one time driving down to do a cruise. It was a pain. Luckily, we were not delayed as long as you were. I have driven down to Florida many times but I have never really paid attention to where the first Bucee's is on 95. Now, I am intrigued by Bucee's! I am definitely looking forward to stopping. The GA visitors center is nice. I always try to stop at the Florida rest stop too. Glad everything is OK with you. I was wondering as well. Your videos have really been informative for me.

When we were going to the Villages last year we had to leave a day late to have the car fixed. We got to Georgia from SC and stopped at a rest area. When we went to leave the car wouldn't start. The tow truck brought us to the dealership where they told us they couldn't get the part till Monday. (This was Friday). So we said we can't do that. So we bought a car! We're enjoying it, but we never thought this woul happen. We didn't get to the Villages till 11:30 p m.! We started at the Brownwood Hotel. Oh well!

Rusty, I know what you are trying to explain to people about "Race" in The Villages. I've been living here 8 years and never had a problem in regard to race and I've met other Blacks that have lived here 20 or more years and are very happy living here. Those people that have never been here are listening to rumors and lies and unfortunately they believe them without investigating for themselves. Here in The Villages we live and let live! I for one, am very happy here. I've made many Friends as I participate in a lot of activities. It's one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life!

On a normal trip down (not with a breakdown) lol, do do you drive straight with just a nap in the car at that rest stop. or stay over at a motel ? I'm thinking i would need an overnight stay Travelling from Southern N.J.

Hey Rusty Welcome back. My wife Barbara and I missed your shows and we are glad you are doing ok. She did wonder why you didn't just buy a brand new vehicle. I told her that it appears you really want that 2025 Tahoe. Hey, you and I have something in common. I was a b-52 EWO . I was at Carswell 86-89 and KI Sawyer from 89-92. In 92 I took the buyout, left active duty and joined the reserves to become a C-130 Nav. I think I was at KI the same time you were at Wurtsmith. When you did you your show on your various jobs I recognized at least one guy in your Buff crew picture. I now teach AFJROTC at a Cleveland HS. My wife and I plan on retiring to the villages in 3 years. We have done a lifestyle and stayed at the Brownwood 3 times. We will be staying at the Brownwood again in June. I was wondering if you would consider doing a show on services available to veterans in the villages.

Yes the 2025 Tahoe but it is because it is close to my Avalanche and it has all the cruise controls that I want. Have to have the HUD for the cockpit you know...LOL. I was at Wurtsmith till 89. The to Beale. I do not know much about the VA.

Hey, The best surge protector is pulling the plug. So in my experience with surge protectors as follows your refrigerator you want to get one for behind your refrigerator that's designed for Motors or they make them for refrigerators that you can get that just they're like a little round plug in a plug like you plug your cord to your refrigerator into this and this plugs into the outlet the biggest thing is microwaves TVs you know you're your cable line you can get a screw in inline cable surge protector that don't cost much and I would get a couple of them in case one goes out also lightning will take out your cable butt connectors they're usually like Spectrum has blue ones that look like blue in the center they will go black or dark if they take a surge the surge protector that the power companies put on the meter is terrible the better ones to get are the ones that look like a soda can that go on your meter box if you really want to spend a lot of money and get a really good surge protector panamax is the king but just pulling the plug when you're not using the device the other thing you probably want to get down here is a power pack so you can charge your cell phone in case the lights go out they have different wattage that will be able to charge your phone 10 or 15 times before they need to be recharged and just pick up a car charger plug for the device if it doesn't come with it and one of the Bluetti devices if you can afford them they're very good as long as you get the solar panels to go with it you need like four panels cuz that will charge them up in about 2 hours and I love my Bluetti that's it's excellent Check out wandering Wagner's KZbin page a video on it it'll explain the whole thing but they have a really good discount code too no affiliation with them but yeah that's simple as it is just unplug stuff remember in Florida if you hear thunder you can get hit by lightning and it's not like being in Alaska worrying about bear attacks and running faster than your partner that doesn't work for lightning you just seeing your partner the lightning rod move away from them I know I'm bad

Spot on Rusty, I've experienced all kinds of people in the short time I've been here and we're all here for the same reason, to have fun and enjoy our well earned retirement. As for the gossip and rumors, well I've stopped acknowledging the naysayers. Let them believe what they want, if it keeps them away from here and raining on our parade so much the better. I see no need to defend my choice of place to live to anyone. Unless of course they want to pay for my house, then they get a say. LOL

Sorry about your Avalanche. Assuming it's a 5.3L engine, they are great engines but have a couple of weak points one being the oil pickup tube O-ring. It sounds that way when you describe oil pressure falling to zero. Others may learn from your experience. Also the Trax and Equinox type GM vehicles can have oil leak problems so keep an eye on it. I understand they can develop engine rear main seal leaks and it's a major PIA to fix.

I have been curious about the Villages since I discovered them. I usually visit Siesta Key area when I snowbird in January or February since I love many things about the ocean….especially the sound. But the social aspect looks interesting. I’m more of an introvert but occasionally having the squares to visit could be fun. I may have to check it out. I do find your posts interesting so thank you…I’ll look forward to a visit sometime. Keep posting!

The problem with the Middleton is yes it gets you into the area but you can not participate in the activities of the Villages proper. In other words you can crash so to speak the night time events but you may not join any of the clubs.

The first Florida rest area traditionally had orange and grapefruit juice, but Georgia’s always had Coke. Don’t know if Georgia still serves that, but I believe Florida does.

Lately Midwest has a lot of dangerous tornadoes especially with Nebraska , Iowa, etc. My heart goes out for all those in the storm. We have Tornadoes, Hail , Winds ( 30 mph or more ) Rain , Warnings Today 5/8/2024. *I am keeping my Eyes To The Sky* Two weeks ago a strong storm came throw and destroyed a Barn and knocked down a tree , just 1/4 of a mile down the road. To Close To Home !!!

Pee only makes marks if they pee in the same place over and over, getting upset about a dog peeing on your lawn is petty!

This is where you are wrong. If one dog pees in a spot the others follow…marking the spot. If you are on a property that is where people keep walking the dogs…this is where they pee AND poop over and over again. There you go. That’s the way it works. With that said why in the world would feel your dog has the right to enter somebody else’s property and piss and pee. Really. Here is an idea. Take the dog to the dog park that we all paid for that reason or let your animal pee and poop in your own yard.
