6:50 the pavement diversion is to use when there is a bus stopped at that bus stop. Its safer to move onto the shared pavement than swing into a narrow road. Cyclists on a shared pavement have to give way to pedestrians. This includes those stepping off a bus. Same with the next one. Notice when you put your bus graphic on that when a bus is waiting at the stop cyclists may be tempted to go round it, into opposing traffic.

Re overtaking cyclists, the highway code states, "give motorcyclists, cyclists and horse riders and horse drawn vehicles at least as much room as you would when overtaking a car (see Rules 211 to 215). As a guide: leave at least 1.5 metres when overtaking cyclists at speeds of up to 30mph, and give them more space when overtaking at higher speeds". "As a guide". It is NOT a rule, and if they make 1.5m impossible, then you can pass more closely.

The cycle lane you pointed out has been designed by someone following the construction guidance who have never ridden a bicycle. There are even places where you are meant to suddenly turn 90 degrees to leave the road and enter a cycle lane on a pavement. The Dutch sorted this out years ago. Kingston officers should just follow the Dutch manual on road design. Instead of having cycles going down for every cross street then up again, continue the pavement and cycle path at the same level. Force the cars to go up a ramp, like you do at a sleeping policeman. In slow speed roads, that is the way to do it, you cannot drive fast on city roads anyway, so make it quicker to walk or cycle.

The general rule with _any_ signal is to consider "Will a signal give other road users _useful_ information about my intentions?". If it will, make the signal, if it won't don't. Each occasion that you _might_ use a signal needs an individual decision. Automatically signalling every time you make a particular manoeuvre is a hint that you man not have adequately considered why you're signalling and who you're signalling to. Pulling back in on the motorway when there's no other traffic that could be affected because you've accounted for all of them and you're nowhere near them is an example of a _useless_ signal. But if you're coming back from lane 3 to lane 2 and there's someone ahead in lane 1 who might pull out into lane 2 then a signal that you're moving into lane 2 is _useful_ information to them and a signal is warranted.

@stephenjamespayne61315 ай бұрын
@@scienceexperimentsforhomee261as a cyclist I would use some of it but certainly not all due to its poor design. I'm not using the super narrow parts, too much risk as drivers will think I'm going to stay in my lane (fair assumption) but with a curb one one side the only place I could go when a drain, pothole, rubbish or whatever is in it is the road. I'm not cycling onto the pavement as they intended but will rather merge into the traffic, he'll half the time you don't even notice it wants you to go onto the pavement. As for that giveaway line, I do understand the intent - it's to get cyclists to slow down and merge safely with traffic and give way to the vehicles. However half the time they aren't needed and we can do it without them, but I wouldn't call it completely useless just mostly. As for allowing vehicles to park in a cycle lane, it's just moronic and borderline straight up against the highway code itself 'vehicles must not abstruct cycle infrastructure'. If you were new to cycling, most of the cycle lane does more harm than good as it would provide you with a false sense of security having your own lane. We need lanes with a physical barrier (my preference would be a planter), for them not to randomly start and stop, for them not to have us merge with pedestrians and vehicles, for them not to cause issues at bus stops, and so on. I'm glad he did point out the poor designs of these. Good cycling infrastructure benefits everyone. They keep everyone out of each other's way - pedestrians are safe from cyclists, and cyclists from vehicles.

The sign at 4:21 is correct as there is only one lane at that moment whereas the sign further up is where the second lane appears so two lane appear on the sign 👍 As for the roundabout, Kingston is an offical diversion route when other roads are closed so more traffic would head that way that wouldn’t usually use the road. Making it appear as a straight on to give the impression that the left lanes should be used. If it was to the right, where the road actually is, then drivers would be in the right hand lanes which is wrong…not that it stops regular users getting it wrong 😉 Additional edit: The left turn arrows are there so the lanes are not confused with those that go straight on through the junction. If you treat that set of lights as a separate junction to the rest of the roundabout it will make sense. You can also use the left most lane at the lights to continue towards Kingston as the left most lane splits as the roundabout progresses

Around the 13 minute time regarding the slip road leaving the motorway. Why not have the 1st lane as slip road only (as is) and the 2nd lane as slip road or straight on, and the 3rd and 4th as straight on only. The slip road splits into 2 lanes as it leaves the motorway anyway. This would ease the long slow queue on the 1st lane. Can never understand bikes that get up cars arses, (especially in the wet) like do you want to end up on their back seat?

Interim comment...... When the Weather is even more miserable than you, Tony...... That says a lot 😁😁😁 rofl.

OMG Tony. Your sarcasm has gone way beyond #IanDury levels and I really can't blame you, mate. Too many incidents for me to comment upon so a TLDR version is as follows....... People that use the right hand lane to turn left at a Roundabout subscribe to a song #BuffaloGals# becoz they go around the outside!! As for the rest; I'm surprised that you don't 🤬 more than U already do 😁😁😁 Professional Drivers? I 💩 on them. Peace ✌

I remember 'Buffalo Girls'. If I recall right there were 2 versions. A slowish one that was on the album and one with a faster polka rhythm which I preferred.
@grahamnutt89586 ай бұрын
@@JohnMintyTech B/Girls searched for but my Google cum up with B/Gals - admittedly same Artist. Appreciate your response & Gals did sound different to wot I search for. Maybe that is the slower version. Respect, mate ✌️👍

Q: At 10:55 , if it's one wide lane rather than two, why position to the left, inviting vehicles to approach to your right? Why not position a foot or two further to the centre?
@scienceexperimentsforhomee2616 ай бұрын
That was exactly what I was going to say. LDC created the situation by being over to the left that he created two lanes there. You don't need lane marking to effectively have two lanes. And a horrible entitled attitude afterwards.

Instead of ulez cameras, put cameras on traffic lights, they would have not only improved safety they would have made money as well.
