We came up on an accident scene that was a motorcyclist. The CHP hadn't gotten there yet, so the biker wasn't covered. But his helmet was in one spot, the rest in another and the bike in another... I didn't see the accident happen but it happened just a couple minutes in front of me, and yeah seeing that had me crying the rest of my drive to work.... And yes those things, even as just a witness, will effect any normal person for a long time..... My ex husband once saw a guy fall off building scaffolding, sadly the man didn't survive the fall.... And it wrecked him, mentally, for a long time afterwards.. My condolences to the delivery drivers family and friends.... On a side note... Bit of a glum start here - some members of my family have witnessed a bike accident, I won't get into detail as it was horror movie levels of gruesome. I have witnessed a dog being mangled and howling for 10 minutes, owners and kids (without a leash, their fault unfortunately hard lesson) went complete beserk, we had to take the driver in the house for her protection etc. Just that will haunt me for the rest of my days, I will never forget. 60mph IF they hit head-on: which would mean one vehicle was on wrong side of the road.
@hughjanus73542 ай бұрын
No it wouldn't be 60mph. Two vehicles in head on collision at 30mph produce the same level of forces as one vehicle hitting a wall at 30mph. Here we have a slightly more nuanced situation of one vehicle being much heavier than the other one, so it's not an equivalent, but speeds never just simply add up like what you stated with 60mph.
@MRCAGR12 ай бұрын
@@hughjanus7354 of course velocities in opposite directions add together. This is the relative velocity. If you overtake a vehicle that is travelling at 30 mph at a speed of 40 mph, the overtaking speed is 10 mph, because for every second of travel the other car has moved a bit further along the road.
@hughjanus73542 ай бұрын
@@MRCAGR1 that's why I was referring to forces not speeds, as the force is what does the damage in an impact. You're implying that the impact was more severe because head on collision speed was 60mph, not 30mph. It's not. If you hit another car and both of you do 30 vs if you hit a solid wall at 30 you are exposed to same level of force, i.e. first impact is not more severe.

@martinr62985 ай бұрын
first item... might be 3o limit and they could have been doing 30, but were they in opposite directions ?... that would be minimum 60mph crash speed, possibly more if the scooter was speeding. The damage to the Police car would suggest they hit the bike side on - which means it was almost certainly the police car speeding - and perhaps the old scooter rider not realising the cops were accelerating hard, pulled out in front of them, across the road. Cop car drivers are all cyclists - speed limits dont apply to them. As a further prediction, their dash cam footage will never see the light of day.

@@Andrewwhite-zt2zj Bikes are narrow - that crash impact is across the full width of the Police car and almost even in the extent - that isnt a front or rear impact on a motorscooter; but a broadside. As for cynical, I rarely see a police car obeying the speed limits - in fact I used to take advantage of their speeding; I used to follow the Chief Constable of Warwickshire on his way to work, when I was attending Coventry University - l would let him over take me; give him a 1/4 mile, then match his speed - as he knew where any live cameras and cars were likely to be; most of the trip was done at over 100 mph. As an ex "professional driver" I could give details of dozens of regular speeding events by cops on routine "outings"; from the Midlands, down to London; things I would see EVERY TIME I passed certain locations at the right time of the day; like non Motorway cars speeding along the M4 to Membury services every morning - to put some miles on the clock after slacking off for much of the night, and for some breakfast before going back to HQ and clocking out.

@thelondondashcam5 ай бұрын
As it's a pedestrian crossing he should be walking the bike across then join the road after, and it isn't a shared path at the start of the clip.
@shm55475 ай бұрын
@@thelondondashcam are you sure it's not a toucan crossing? also, signage of shared paths is often poorly done, so it could be shared. in any case, there's practically no difference in the alternative. cycling carefully on a normal footway is effectively decriminalised, just like you won't likely get fined for doing 21mph in a 20 limit.
@shm55475 ай бұрын
@@thelondondashcam ok, I've had a look and between Streeters Rd and Church Rd is marked as an off-road cycle track on Google maps. That also looks very much like a Toucan crossing, it has an additional green light, which is most likely a cycle symbol, so perfectly fine to ride across and join the road.

The guy with crutches chose to cross a road in his state without using a designated crossing which from the footage was only a few metres away and theoretically slowed down traffic because of it. So yeah I think the comment is warranted

@@emmawilliamson692 he's on crutches and you expect him to walk, for him, a considerable distance just to go to a crossing. When he started to cross, the road was clear. LDC was 100yds away when he could have seen the man. LDC chose to maintain the same speed until he was 10 yds away. That is completely careless and thoughtless driving and the icing on the cake was the totally thoughtless and aggressive comment about his condition due to being hit by cars whilst he crossed the road. What if he has a degenerative disease that results in him needing crutches? We don't know either way but for LDC to make that appalling comment is completely unforgivable. At 4:50 the so called lane to the petrol station was so narrow (half the width of the lane left for you) that even if the van was in it, you would not have been able to get past him. So a rather irrelevant whine! At 8:50 you could have seen the man on crutches at least 50 yds always yet you chose to leave the slowing down until you were only 10 yds away, so vey poor hazard awareness from you and a very sick comment to say that he got the bad leg from crossing roads and getting hit. 9:27 - very surprised you could not assess this properly for yourself. His fault was not going through the red light as the light was green for him and his fault was going over the crossing whilst still riding the bike - he should have wheeled it across. 9:50 - the cyclists might be in more danger if they travel on the cycle path due to debris on the path. It is not swept and the cars travelling along the road ensure there is nothing that could cause a puncture to cycle wheels. 10:08 - if you think that cyclist was crossing in an unsafe place then that directly implies you were travelling too fast. Rule 126 of the Highway Code "Drive at a speed that will allow you to stop well within the distance you can see to be clear." 10:50 - the car so called crossing lanes inconvenienced no-one so your criticism is pointless 11:00 0- as you say the way the BMW slowed down to enter safely is fine but his subsequent quick lane changes was bad and contravenes the recommendations of the Highway Code 12:00 - you don not turn left or right at a roundabout, you choose the 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc exit. Both lanes were marked o the road as for M25 and A127 so the bikes and car were in the correct lanes. In fact you were in the incorrect lane. You were not turning left, your exit was after 12 o'clock so according to Highway Code rule 186 you should have been in the right hand lane. "That roundabout" - 14:15. It's come before and you said the same thing then ad I corrected you then but you have taken absolutely no notice and again I am so surprised at someone who drives every day for a living but does not know the difference between the effect of the road marking and the large circular road sign on a pole. So when you see 30 or20 painted in the road, it has no legal significance - it is just a reminder but they can be outdated as they do not comply with the fully legal compliant circular signs on the roadside, on a pole, circular with a red edging. So at 14:22 you are legally in a 30 zone - the 20 road marking at 14:26 is irrelevant - so you saying at 15:00 that you are in a 20 limit is totally wrong. The roundabout at 16:20 is fat too small to have two lanes approaching in the two directions such that the truck at 16:52 was completely right to take the position he did to be able to get around the mini roundabout easily.
