Just lying flat would be more effective. I doubt this procedure was created by anyone who survived a strike. Then theres the sensible option, the one you chose, get down lower. i quite enjoy a good thunderstorm but yes , once you have one zap the ground within a stone`s throw it tends to make you VERY humble indeed , once your heart rate drops below 180bpm you notice that weird smell....... it`s actually terrifying and NOT something you want to change the odds on

Thanks Jon, ahh man that must have been terrifying!! 😰 I'm so glad you were OK!! I love your determination to force the tent into bad weather conditions to see how it holds up. That's some pro product testing right there! The Tent makers should be queuing up to get you testing their gear! Loved the thunderstorm footage too, they sound amazing up in the hills! I was nearly at the top of Skiddaw in the lake district when I heard a storm approaching from the other side, I about turned and made a hasty retreat back down the hill. Luckily it was only a day trip so I wasn't fully loaded with camping gear but by the time I got back to Keswick, the storm had already caught me and I was drenched. The 'un-ladylike' bit in the video reminded me of when I accidently mooned an old couple at a campsite in Crawdon (Pennine Way). I say mooned....they got both sides! I was drenched and had to get the bottom part of my wet gear off. It was lashing it down, I didn't think anyone was around. I dropped the bottom part of my gear off, pirouetted into the tent, looked up and saw the two old dears looking out the front of their camper van. Anyhow, looking forward to the uncensored version of the video on OF! The weirdos will spend a fortune to see it! 😀 Keep up the great work Claire, it's November and the videos keep coming! You're amazing! Daz x

Well done for following your instincts to move to lower ground! It reminded me of a time I was wild camping in the Pyrenees. Just before sundown I watched a big thunder storm and lightening show about 10 miles from me. The weather forecast said it would keep moving south of my position. I went to sleep. One hour later I was woken up by a clap of thunder very close by. The forecast was wrong! A voice in my head said 'move your butt now!' I jumped out the pop up tent and shoved it into the back of the car. Just as I got into the drivers seat the heavens opened. I barely had time to shut the door! It hammered down. I decided to get to lower ground and drove off to the village as lighting struck around me and a literal river ran down the road. Just to mention when camping in woodlands or groups of trees. Always check there are no dead or weak looking boughs or branches above where you pitch. And never camp under mature Beech trees because they are renowned at dropping lower branches without warning, even on perfectly still days. Its the nature of how the Beech puts more energy into upper branches compared to other species. As such the lower boughs become weak and can simply just fell off.

I love my Lanshan 2, I use it with the lanshan 1 inner, which leaves me enough space under the fly sheet to bring my bike in when I'm bikepacking. HOWEVER, I consider it my fair weather tent, for this time of year I use my Wild Country Helm 2 compact, but I have to leave my bike outside. It's a kilo heavier than the Lanshan 2, but it's so much more robust and can cope with much stronger winds etc due to being a freestanding semi geodesic design, with crossed poles. Although it's not truly a 4 season mountain tent, it does everything I'm gonna use it for and the weight is less of an issue when you're loading it onto the bike rather than carrying it on your back. The Lanshan is great, as long as you keep it in it's comfort zone keep on keeping on.

Been intrigued seeing how you get on with this tent, was pretty sold on getting an MSR but the only thing stopping me was that I’d prefer a tent where you do outer first in case of rain. Thought these with the poles looked interesting, will look out for the next videos

You can sink the stakes down to ground level, and put some rocks on top of them, if it gets windy. Some river rocks would work great. Fun video!

Beautiful video with breathtaking landscapes and stunningly edited and presented... ❤❤❤👍👍👍 And this beautiful Lady is a total asset to the outdoor community. Kindest regards... I gave up on the Lanshan tents, only for dry summer months and even then sceptical about keeping you dry and comfortable. The Scarp-1 tent is my favourite and the Fjallraven Abisko Lite 1 Tent... Not cheap!... But, I trust them in all weathers... 👍👍👍

I do love that feeling when you're in, and dry, and you can just *flumpfh* back (technical term) with a big sigh. The moments between "I've pitched" and that though are some of the suckiest in wet and windy weather. It's good to see you're as uncouth about it as everybody else, you just kinda roll around trying not to mash anything against anything else whilst hoping above all that the water decides to stay out of the tent 🤣. Riverside camps are my favourite, especially waterfalls, I absolutely love the sound of running water, and have some pretty special spots saved up over the past few years.

I've found that a pair of cheap, lightweight wetsuit boots are worth packing. They weigh next to nothing and can be used for a river crossing or as "camp slippers" while your boots are drying out if needs be. Sealskinz merino goretex socks are the thing to have if your boots have got flooded, excellent bit of kit. Happy camping! :)

Luv you as a person. And Luv your vids of the Brit countryside and your adventures. Thanks for bringing us along. A one internal, or two or 3 external pole pyramid tent is my choice for a bad weather tent, with external lines to stabilize the pole (s). On top of an exposed mountain I would go with a tarp pitched very low to the ground and a bivy sack. Never seen fiberglass or aluminum poles do well in winds. You made the best decision getting down.
