Playing this level as orks with the ork swarm mod on was great. In the cut scene here the scouts overwhelmed the tau and the tau commander was still talking proudly in the background :3

Even without the mod, the Orks were able to cut down at most of the Tau before the Kroots rushed in, and even after that they lasted longer than any other race.

I loved when I last played this mission as the Chaos Word Bearers and I got to watch my bloodthirster devour that ethereal. Just imagine the horror of the Tau as the bloodthirster drinks his blood.

Actually the Imperium and the Tau have had skirmish-wars since the end of the Damocles Crusade. The Tau, seeing that the Imperium's armies were being sent somewhere else (Cadian Sector), decided to attack the Imperium and took over a whole bunch of Imperial worlds into their "Third Sphere". This attracted the attention of a few space marine chapters, which led to the Tau basically getting wiped out in almost all the Imperial worlds they took over. At this point, there's a tension that's rising.

I agree, this one was the hardest. Mainly because of the Tau's range ability with basic soldiers. That and the fact they sent their Knarlocs after me quite soon after I arrived.

Every time I did this as the orks, the slugga Boyz took out the fire warriors before the kroot ever showed up and the shoota Boyz were good enough in melee to hold their own until the sluggas scrapped the broadside suits and came to kill the kroot, the last two seconds there are just standing there wondering what to do next. The Tau are lovely. I think the real time negates the possible annoyance that comes from the tabletop. If the Fire Warriors are shooting at you just fall back and find a flank. Or use disruptive weaponry like explosives.

Eldar are like "oh look, you're dead, and you didn't even see us" Tau are like "cool toys!!!!!!" XD or "DON'T MESS WITH US! BY US I MEAN ME, MY AWESOME TECH, AND MY BIG PLASMA GUN!" IG are like "Yeah, we have a squad for every soldier you have; and then we have tanks." SMs are like "My bolter cuts down the Emperor's enemies." Orkz are like "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!!!!!!" The Necrons don't say anything Chaos is BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!!! and 'Nids just eat your face.

So I've conquered the city today... in three hours no less. There's got to be a way to speed-kill the Ethereal by using the servo-skull drone to worm your way all the way up to him, then deep-striking. Maybe. Well, it is a pretty fun minigame to play (evade the stealth-detection units) as a break from the usual burning the heretics, killing the mutants, purging the unclean.

No matter what way you look at it, both Tau and Human have their flaws. But ultimately if we are to survive against the demonic forces of Chaos, the Souless Necrons or the mad rampage of the Tyranids, then we must compromise and work together or we will perish. Tau and Humanity are the only races that have mutual goals and such are the only races theat can have a long-term alliance. I am an Imperial, and yet I ask this of us all!

Poersch If anything that's just an argument that the setting has yet to mold the Tau into whatever their final form will be, from what I understand they haven't even started developing psykers yet, which means they are still almost completely disconnected from the warp and whatever affects that might have on them.

I remember first time playing this I had Imperial Guard, dang hard, I was massing troops for the final push and suddenly it went to the victory cutscene. I had a pair of Vindicare Assassins sniping to weaken the defenses and the Ethereal wandered straight into the kill zone. Never got that lucky again.

@firelord699 The Gnarloc comes with either Tower. The Killing Blow grants Crisis Suits and the Hammerhead Gunship, while the Patient Hunter grants Kroot Hounds and Krootox beasts. No matter which one you pick, though, the Gnarloc can be trained and released. I always go with the Patient Hunter for the extra Research you get for it.

Yeah, the Imperium underestimated the Tau during the Damocles Crusade. Although they took out some Tau worlds, they were forced into a stalemate at one of the sept worlds. It was unlikely they could win without additional reinforcement, Tau reinforcements would probably have arrived first, and worse, Hive Fleet Behemoth was threatening the Imperium. So they negotiated a truce. Now with the constant battles in Cadia, it doesn't look like they'll be focusing on Tau too much anytime soon.

I cheated a bit when I played against them with the IG. Moved an assassin into the Tau base, popped the pathfinders, found a good spot, and killed the Ethereal as he did his 200th lap around the base.

My necron lord was a detector. I had him teleport over to where the stealthsuits were firing from. If you got all his melee wargear and scarab swarm he'll be able to take them himself.

That's true. If you want to get technical, the "good" races are the imperium the Tau, and the eldar. The imperium is struggling to survive, and is doing so with bravery, making them"good", the Tau wish to see peace and properity, making them "good", and the Eldar want our galaxy to be as it once was, peaceful.

The Tau have the most insane stronghold missions. The only way they could be made harder is: Add in Orca Dropship bombing attacks. Stealthsuits continually infiltrating your base. Fire Warrior SNIPERS. Kroot attacking while Fire Warriors stand back and let loose plasma rain. Drone squads buried at every junction.

Space Marines can pwn just about anything. However, Orks present a bit of a problem as their numbers are nearly limitless and they are very strong physically. Fortunately, Orks are also generally very poorly lead and organized. Necrons are a problem because they're made of solid metal and technically can't die. Tyranids are a pain in every one's ass because they're strong, well organized, and have the advantage of crushing numerical superiority.

@ars731 By far and away the nastiest stronghold mission. I mean, you get attacked by multiple Relic Units and heavy vehicles, and right off the bat too. Quite a challenge. Only try this one if you have a nice, big bodyguard because you need to leave a lot of forces at home while you are also out attacking. If you leave your base undefended prepare to get served.

The Tau are amoral killers. They are slightly more understanding than the Imperium but only slightly. FOR THE EMPEROR!!! lol. P.S. Yeah, the Tyranids scare the shit out of me. However, the Imperium did defeat two rather large hive fleets in the past. That's more than the Tau can say. ;)

most of their units are slow to manevour, and if you can destroy the leader unit and any tomb spyders, you'll effectly destroy their regen abilities. and keep the flayed ones and wraiths away from your infintry, beacuse if they get in close, your grunts will die. basicly you just need speed and armor.

Well, yeah, they're very much alike; Tau have fewer people with better guns and tanks with awesome power but easy to break, while IG are many more, and with much more resistant tanks.

Eh, make no mistake, if the Imperium decided to focus on eradicating the Tau, they would probably... eradicate the Tau. But between the numberless hordes of the Tyranids, the relentless Necrons, vile warp tainted traitors, and the green plague known as Orks, they probably figure a xenos Empire that's not even a 1/10th of their size is barely worth their attention at the moment.

vindicare is awesome i killed instantly crisis and those entrenched units with him to make it easy for my infantry to attack the final base. after that killing the ethereal with the assasin was piece of cake(i spammed lightning arc to the fire warrior bodyguards just in case)

I nearly beat the game as the Tau all I had left was chaos(Necrons got owned by chaos). I couldn't get any new areas though because they spamed me with berserkers and obliterators. Any new units I made got owned as soon as they stepped out of the turret perimeter.

LOL not helping that the only Necron detectors are the Builder Scarabs and those really fragile Wraiths. Things really are different without squad attachement... I miss my Skull Probes. XD Playing Necrons right now, I'll see what I can do about that.

Thank God I had an Honor Guard of Kans and a Mega Armor Nob. These fuckers barely have me two minutes to set up some fortifications before they swarmed me like a pack of Zerg. 'Eavy Storm Boyz, Nobz and Shootas dropped to them like flies without their upgrades. The Kan and the Armor nob, and Gorgutz were the only ones left after a full five minutes of fighting, and it was only seven minutes in. I love facing these guys, they always give me a challange...Until I bring out the upgrades and tanks.
