Dunno if you mentioned this but 2 tent pegs through the holes would support an alcohol stove if you wanted

Good Morning .. IKEA Cutlery Holders make for awesome Hobo Stoves. Your's is another variation on a theme .. thanks for sharing. I would ignore the negative comments (not the constructive advice) .. each to their own although, protection of the surface on which the stove stands should definitely be factored in. My stove stands on bolts to enable a fresh air intake underneath and in addition to the tent pegs for smaller diameter pots, another IKEA product, the 'LÄMPLIG' Pot stand, stainless steel 18x18 cm £1.75 does the job for pots on top. Cut longitudinally down the centre, plastic foot-pieces discarded and four grooves cut to size around the top pot circumference and Bob's your Uncle. This allows for a better gas flow out of the stove, past the bottom of the pot and a more efficient burn. The other piece can be used underneath to assist with bottom air intake. On 'heat sensitive' surfaces, plenty options. A circular piece of aluminium (the seal from an instant coffee tin) and a heat-resistant silicon mat cut to size serve well. More protection .. a Carbon Cloth Flame Protection Mat comes in handy .. or, put the Stove into a Dixie or a Tatonka SS Bowl with a bit of water inside. Overkill? Use the whole lot .. that should keep 'Smokey the Bear' happy 😊. Take care ..

Three bent allen key would work good enough compared to them heavier bolts and difficult wingnuts to work with when too hot.

Maybe dig a square of turf, light the stove, put the turf back when you've finished?

Man! That's the first time I've seen any one put the bolts through the side. Pretty neat idea, I like it. Good job! Also carry an extra two tent pegs, that way you have the option to use it for alcohol burner below.

Too many pieces to your stand. What do you do when you lose one or one of the tools for assembly/disassembly? Try a wind screen to improve burn efficiency. Too putsy of a set up system. Check out other videos for some improvements.

My ikea hobo stove is way simpler, just a large hole to feed the fire, no legs and a thing on top wich you normaly use on the stove in your kitchen. (Round thick heatresistant steel) Fits perfectly and takes the smallest cups and will last forever. :))

Bad leg design use conduit clamps for fold out legs with wing nuts
@BrumCraft8 жыл бұрын
Great work man! I find simply threading 60mm coach bolts through the base works better & you can dig them straight into the ground without the need for tents pegs/spanner etc. Titanium bolts would be lighter but are like £10 each though! I'm looking for simple fold out legs if you come across any ideas on your travels
@bushcraftnshizzle80878 жыл бұрын
You could use some thin metal stock to make legs. You would have to drill it (same diameter as your carriage bolts) and then put the bolts through the stock and stove. You would then simply flip the stock round to a vertical position for stowage and 180 degrees round to use as legs. It wouldn't be hard to use an angle grinder and put sharp ends on your stock legs so they stick better in the ground. I feel a followup video coming on! Good luck in your stove creation, Andrew.

Three conduit clamps with small bolts and wing nuts. Put a round metal can cover inside the stove to save from scorching the ground.

This entire set-up seems overly complicated. Ounces lead to pounds and pounds lead to pain.
@wynandkoegelenberg56596 жыл бұрын
Agreed! Whilst micro-camping, carry more food than equipment. This stove set-up can be replicated with a few rocks - I kid you not. Find a few rocks, balance them accordingly (natural air intakes will occur), start the stick fire, balance the pot on top. And off you go! No equipment needed. And for the love of god, cut a square piece of turf, dig a hole a foot deep, bury all fully doused ashes and and detritus; and finally replace the aforementioned piece of turf on top. Like you've never even been there; isn't that the whole point of it all?

thanks for sharing. definitely not a zero footprint stove. there's a reason wood stove do not have holes at the bottom. it's so that you don't start a forest fire.

+wierzbicki1 Probably not awesome enough as the comments on this video seem like a lonely place :) I have found the hobo stove to be useful in woodland typically during summer. In winter, you need your fire to warm yourself and your dinner! This winter passed I have preferred using a Zebra Billy Pot hanging from an improvised tripod. Cheers, Andrew.
@woodgasfire44228 жыл бұрын
hey your stove works quite well, but you light up the grass. and after cooking you try to conceal your traces. This need not be ! Make a new stove and be shure that the fire is only in it. I wish you success!
@bushcraftnshizzle80878 жыл бұрын
Yes, you've got a good point there. I guess I could have cut some grass away under the stove and then put it back afterwards. That's more hassle than using other types of stove. I bought a cracking new wood gas stove from RJ Bushcraft here in Scotland yesterday. Will review that as an alternative soon. Many thanks, Andrew.
