I discussed this build with my 82 yr old dad, and my 36 yr old son, yesterday afternoon (Thanksgiving). And I showed parts of the original video of the build... and parts of Wednesday's video... to them. My son, who likes those old Plymouth cars, was greatly impressed. My dad... well, I couldn't tell. However, it did get my dad to tell us about a vehicle that my grandpa had back in the 1960s (which I remembered, when Chad began this build). Grandpa's vehicle was a late-'50s Chrysler New Yorker 4-door. Grandpa had bought it used, in 1960, according to my dad. And according to him, the car had a Hemi motor, but he couldn't recall what size displacement.... only that "it was FAST!!!".😁 Anyway, grandpa was a mechanic and sort of a fabricator. And much like Chad is doing here, grandpa turned that Chrysler into a 2-door pickup. Dad said that grandpa turned the front suspension "upside down" (I think he said it was the "longitudinal torsion bars"), to gain ride height/ground clearance. And put blocks in the rear leaf springs to lift the rear of the car. I remember the car. But I don't have a picture of it. Dad said that he probably has one, in a photo album somewhere. But he wasn't going to search for it.😁 Anyway, my memory of that old Chrysler.... and my grandpa...are part of why I am enjoying watching this build of Chad's. Plus, I myself, love old pickups.😎😎😎😎

Nice job! You made the whole process look so easy. I love your new truck. In 1959, I did a similar job of adding 4 inches to the rear fenders of a 34 Ford pickup. It was my first attempt at doing something like that, and I almost had a nervous breakdown attempting to figure out how to do the job without messing the fenders up. With the fender mounted on the box, I cut the outer part of the fender off, and added the extension to the remaining piece of the fender that was still mounted on the box. Then I added the outside piece back on. It worked out ok, but there was a lot of stretching and straightening done to get the job right. The job was done using an acetylene torch and a lot of dolly work. Seeing what you did, makes me think that I would have been better off just doing the job by adding the extension to the outer piece. I really enjoy watching you figure things out on the fly, and not worrying about whether or not you might be making a mistake. And even when you do make a mistake, you just go back, un-zip the area of the mistake, straighten the panel the way you want it, and carry on. BTW: I am happy to see that you are going to round the top of the doors. I think it will fit in better with all of the other curves on the truck.

This project is one of your best...the cab proportions, wheelbase, and stance is visually appealing. The concept of making a pickup out of a four door sedan is exceptionally sound. This one is special!

What I like about fab. There's so many way to gain the same end product!! No way is right and no way is wrong as long as you get the job done. I'm my self would have put the 90 in it on a break and cut pies out of the 90 to fit it to the peace and filled the pie back in. That way the flat side would lay tight and end product would be the same with less welding. But like I said There's no right or wrong as long as in the end you have what you need. I enjoy watching you Sir. ☺️

My favorite part of the job when modifieing a resto playing it by ear after the creative thought process measuring cutting fitting and welding up a new creation I love that part the most it's rewarding and fulfilling once it's done before body and prep you get to see your masterpiece before it's done it's a great feeling no drug or money can give you that but yourself that's something money cannot buy, Monte-Carlo Jack from the county of Westlock , Alberta

This afternoon I had the opertunity to go look at a rusty but all there 38 chevy halfton . Awesome truck all rusty and such . The glass was still in it as the interior and gauges seat was just springs but all in all a complete truck ! The bad news is he's not selling . Oh well I'll keep looking . Chad and Jolenes truck is going well! The pockets lol sounds like he's making pants for the truck lmbo ! Thumbs-up Jolene and Chad 👍

The 38 Chevy pickup is the best looking pickup ever made.
@willhorting53172 жыл бұрын
@@garrybernardin9719 as a friendly tease, I'm going to disagree. I think the sexiest pickup ever, was the '54 Chevy.😁😎 But I admit that I am extremely biased. My grandpa "gave me" a rusty non-running '54 3100 as a high school graduation gift. It then sat for a few years while I saved money. Then, in the latter '80s, I personally rebuilt that old truck in my grandpa's shop. Complete frame-off rebuild. Ultimately, the only things that I didn't do myself were the seat upholstery, and the paint. Took me a few years. Wish I still had it, but it got sacrificed to finance a divorce.
@garrybernardin97192 жыл бұрын
That my friend is a great story. Other than the divorce and the fact you had to sell it. I spent 17 years getting my 56 Chevy dr hardtop on the road. It’s been on the road for 10. It proudly sleeps every night beside (what I respectfully believe is) the most beautiful pickup truck ever made. Even Chad couldn’t improve on it.

Thanks for sharing the whole process. You choose not to hide the struggles, but share them freely along with the victories. Some might say body work can mimic life! I predict that as you zip cut the metal and weld the seam back that little gap will work its way out. Then we will all forget the little struggle.

It always amazed me that more guys aren't making their own boxes, it's really not that hard, probably harder than finding a repairable box. As long as you got fenders the box is easy. Glad you're sharing this one, it's a fun one
@kimberlywilliams97572 жыл бұрын
My husband made the box on our 37 GMC and it wasn't hard to do, but we dont have fenders for it so we are making those next. The hardest part about that is duplicating them in the English wheel, but maybe we will think of an easier way of doing them.
