Yeah but he handed over the cash for it and it's his. It's a great car but it's his great car. Sentiment [which I have] aside it's just a hunk of metal. I don't have the resources or interest to save great cars so he gets to do what he likes best and we get to see the creative results. I seem to remember he offered to sell one great car for a fair price but there were no takers. While he leaves many projects 'in progress' there will come a time [he's already selling a few] when they will get sold and finished to put wide smiles on many faces. Can you imagine all the heads that will turn when they see that 2-dr Thunderbird at a car show or driving down the road? Gonna confuse the stuffing out of some of us old buzzards who remember them going to 4 dr in 1958.

it great to have an old survivor but it will sit and rust away. better to moderize the car so it will be driven and enjoyed. if you want to see the car left vintage, contact them and buy it. otherwise lets get on with making the car desirable for the mkt and something that a majority would want to drive. cars are meant to be driven, not looked at. Do it up the way you want to, plenty of stock and resto 38s still on the road. I cut the top off a 46 Mercury that was a shell on a rolling chassis, lots of rust. I looked at a real convertible to see how the door top trim inside looks like and mimicked it. Made a Carson top just like you said after building a custom package tray area. By building up support inside you can eliminate door sag, I used sheet metal and made the area between the passenger area and trunk solid sheet metal again for support. You could slant the whole windshield frame back 1-2” at the top that will allow the Carson top to look like you chopped it without sacrificing forward vision. Cheers!

@@dbabb2484 Yes, and many of those heyday customs didn't age well either. Not that it mattered so much in past decades as available cars and trucks were plentiful and dirt cheap, as was often the case for time and materials to do the work. Subjecting a custom car to real world roads in this country will soon reveal where over-stressed metal and forced and patched up joints rapidly develp cracks and other faults. Extremes in weather conditions and ever increasing UV factors can play hell on ones handy work. I guess it depends a lot on careful and detailed planning and competant workmanship and what the ultimate goal is -- does one want a show room model or trailer queen, or a daily driveable vehicle?? I guess all are legitimate goals but sound planning and forsight is required in any case in order to achieve the desired goal.

I enjoy disassembling more than I do fixing. But one time during reassembly, there was this bracket I could not figure out where it goes. None of my photos showed it installed. It took a long while only to find out it was from an old refrigerator.

It’s a blast watching you all work together. Got some good laughs. I love the modification idea. I think it’s going to look bad ass.

Nice design. The curved window is perfect. Ford should have built a coupe like this and dressed it up as a " sport model

I wish I was there, I'd do most of the work on the Austin for you. Most mechanical, rust repairs and my favourite, the customising.

i had hoped Chad wouldn't chop this car but after seeing the simple black board sketch i have to agree it is the right move , it will be a cool build so take it easy people

Chad , you say ' don't ruin anything ' while you intend to destroy a beautiful ( classic in excellent condition ) car ❤ don't do it ‼️❗️

Nah, raise the top from the back of the doors rearward, then incorporate the scenic window look above like the Amtrak cars or old Greyhound roofs. Perfect for this rig.

No way I’d have touched it. Now it’s just another custom 38, that one will cost you man. Ross galitizky still hates me for restoring his old black 63 galaxie.

Thank you Chad for listening to my idea about a Carson Top but keeping it as a 4 or 5 seater would be better. Just my opinion of course.

Great seeing the three of you together. People are saying yet another old classic torn apart, well look at it this way that cars had the same clothes on for years and years. Everyone needs new clothes time and again. Just saying 😊

Leave the car as is , Clean it up and put it in storage. The problem is that Chad never complete s his projects . Can't understand why his thinking is always on chopping roofs, at the end they all look the same.
