Excellent video. It's not looking good when even the 1990s seem better than today!

buffscrag71 what's good about today you have these horrible optare things with the noisiest gearbox ever no semi autos no leyland 680 providing the soundtrack and the same with these horrible Dennis heaps of crap
@Neash29 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing this. Definitely a Leyland 680-engined RE which had a lively performance and were a joy to drive. United Automobile in the North East had a few similar to this as dual purpose vehicles - we ran them on the Tynelink services for a while between Darlington and Newcastle - always able to meet the one hour timetable comfortably and therefore became popular with passengers.

Thanks for uploading, nice to see and hear these vintage buses again, Islwyn Borough Transport (South Wales) had a fleet of Willowbrook Bodied Leyland Leopards, that sounded as great as that Bristol RE

😮. "1993 - (as a caravan). Named "Phoebus Apollo". Noted in central France, 8/1995. Understood to have been used on a tour of Europe with fish scales painted down the sides"

I always thought some of the RE's had a nice leather smell in them unlike the nationals that always smelt filthy.
@BristolRE3 жыл бұрын
Nationals were prone to being 'smokey' from the exhaust, so guess that's why they had that smell to them. RE's of course always smelt lovely
@robertp.wainman40943 жыл бұрын
@@BristolRE interesting why different coachbuilders body's all had their own distinctive smell - and many of the preserved ones - if not 'over restored' - still maintain it. I could tell an ECW interior with my eyes closed!

@BristolRE6 жыл бұрын
You missed out on the good stuff! Lynx's were ok, Lance and Limpalong (and Darts) were nothing special. VRs and Leyland Nationals were wicked to drive, though I too missed out on driving the RE, passed my test in 1986

Ah, those were the days. If only first would bring that back as their 'local identity' for Bath & Somerset.
