Can you try to not to keep the camera zoomed in, it kind of ruins my visual view of the bus

It's an iPhone, you choose which lens to use (x1, x2 or x5), and are stuck with it for that clip. Due to digital destination displays breaking up when videoing you have to use the x5 to keep them clear. If I used the x2 which I would prefer, the displays flicker

Very nice Bakerloo Line Trains Thought... What the heck?!! But why are they spraying paint on trains like it's subway surfers again?! There is no high security with powerful dogs at the depot all night. When the last train went to the depot. All the trains should be put into the depot garage, NOT outside. There is graffiti again to waste! What kind of expected this? I am absolutely shocked! See 2:40sec.

Brings back memories, when I used to go to school in Stoke Newington whilst living with my mum in Kensal Green. I loved it. The trains would teavel from Watford Junction to the then Broad Street (B2) via Primrose Hill. It was a semi-fast service that didn't stop at Caledonian Road & Barnsbury and Canonbury, and it took 4 minutes from Dalston Junction to Broad Street. Those days have surely gone, but loved it to see the fast trains especially the class 85/86/75 express electrics running to and from Lindon Euston. I could go on, but I will stop here.

Have to admit I'll miss these trains whenever they get round to replacing the Bakerloo Line Stock. The same with the Piccadilly Line Stock. They are special and love the sounds of them but at the same time amazing they've used them for over 50 years! They look tired.

@@BristolRE You're probably right. TFL are lucky these trains seem to be reliable given the much newer 1992 stock on the Central Line really struggled till recently. Also the 4 seat sections on the 1972 stock are amusingly small to me, guess everyone was skinny back then lol.

Brilliant video Peter. Always intrigued with overground and underground sharing on lines. Makes deep tube trains look tiny compared to the overground. Bakerloo 72’s like Piccadilly 73’s (soon to be replaced) keep heritage going for us enthusiasts. I guess London Was Underground sends out any trains with graffiti even though years ago trains were put out of service until they were cleaned up. Brilliant video. Always look forward to the next one 😀.

They were much better in terms of engine sounds, a more basic interior but much more comfortable in my opinion. Generally fast as well, once they had built up speed. For some perfect engine sounds, fast forward 6-8 minutes for the bus to get going, then watch this with your volume turned up! kzbin.info/www/bejne/f3TSln6EopuZmrM

I wonder why some electric blinds flicker and others don't with a phone camera? I like taking pictures of buses and the electric blinds are a nuisance. Seems to be easier to get a picture when the blind is white for some reason but it's not consistent at all. It don't like the orange at all!

In most cases a slower shutter speed, ie below 1/150 will stop the flickering. Drawback to that is if the bus is moving you may get motion blur, so you need to photo them on bus stops etc

You may have to cap your video to 30fps in the top left corner to stop the flickering, although I think that would then cause flickering on the newer TFL blinds that run at 60fps

30fps doesn't play back smoothly. It's actually the shutter speed that causes it, on a normal camera usually need lower than 1/150

They are now being used on all new buses in London, but very unreliable, showing often with parts of the wording or route number missing.

It has been announced that Metroline are withdrawing the 242 from 04/01/2025. I am not sure if a replacement operator is being sourced.

Yes, I read about that. I'd expect the service to still run operated by someone else (Probably Central Connect) as there is no direct bus to the Brookfield Centre

Intalink (Hertfordshire's travel information authority) announced Uno is taking the 242 over on Monday to Saturday, with the full route getting an hourly service. This is much better overall but is a lower frequency in Cheshunt. I just hope Uno has improved by a lot, they were really rubbish when I used them a few years ago so hopefully they hired many new staff. They must've given they run several TFL routes, like the 298 now.

@@BristolRE I hope so, I was so put off Uno routes for a long time from before. I never bothered with them since. Well you'll get some nice variety in your videos at Waltham Cross. I've traveled all over the country on the trains this year and no one else has that combination of pink and purple. Not even the open top buses in Skegness. Uno livery is very unique. At least when this change comes It'll be a lot easier to try the 610 and X10 routes, been meaning to for a while.
