Love your show. Funny story: As a 16 year old in the East coast, I was a bit of an anglophile. The Beatles you know. I bought my first Morris Minor for $50.00. Drove it till the tranny packed it in. Bought another car for $25.00 just for it's transmission. Tried to swap the transmissions but didn't know you removed the engine and transmission together. Mom and Pop sent it to the wrecking yard while I was away at school. Still miss the old thing. Moved to California and bought a bug eye Sprite.

You've brought back memories of working on my Austin Mini, then 1275 Cooper S. On the S I had to wait for 3 months for a new head to arrive from the UK. When I got it in my hands at the dealer, we unwrapped it to have a look. There right in the middle of one of the valve seats was an air bubble from when the head was first cast, so waited for another 3 months for a replacement. Fun times, learned a lot from those cars, I was 18 then, 77 yrs old now, thanks for bringing back fond memories.

Another good one! I did a valve grind on a Morris Minor when I was 16.Thought I was really doing something.Hand lapped with what looked like a rubber dart.The car cost me $50.00 dollars Canadian.The valve grind increased the compression and she smoked a bit afterwards.Fun little car to zip about in .We will be watching for future vids.

I've got all that to look forward to. Hopefully without the smoke! I've just ordered the book on tuning these engines so hopefully I can make it run nicely when it's all finished 😃

Just doing the head on my 1.8 tdci ! if you have a pillar drill it make short work of cleaning those valves up ! just mount valve in drill get it running up and start off with 60 grit and work up to 400 then you can finish with some metal polish ! be like brand new ! id also try and port and polish the head get better gas flow going on with that old moggy as i’d imagine every Horse would help and its really easy to do !

Just been watching all of these moggy 1000 vids. Those rocker assembly and head nuts were not 'torqued' down as these engines were built before torque wrenches were invented. They were just tightened down tight. The original copper gasket. That head has never been off before. If it had been driven with unleaded fuel, it would have burnt the valves and seats.
@zoidberg4445 жыл бұрын
Definitely needs some work but I'm sure it will be chugging along in no time. I wonder if that head has been off since the engine was made at the Morris factory?
@Badgertronix5 жыл бұрын
Given how uneven the cylinder head nuts were torqued down I would say it has definitely been off before!

Great series. Couldn't the oil in the bores be the oil lefy from the wet compression test. It would get blackened from bouncing around on the carbonised combustion chamber.

My friend had a 1963 model, it had red leather upholstery. Much nicer than the VW cars. BTW Are the fasteners metric, fractional or Whitworth? Looking forward to your progress and craftsmanship. Cheers from Kansas

@Badgertronix5 жыл бұрын
60 years is reasonable service. The service manual schedules head removal for de-coking so studs make sense. Cost saving these days I suppose is why most things happen how they do
