I thought i was over prepped but you take it to another level. It's true that having all the little bits and bobs weigh nothing compared to the overall system but could get you out of trouble in the middle of nowhere.

Just got me a Helium Bivvy, didn't think I'd like the pole but it is fantastic. Makes it a lot more pleasant to sleep in. And wonderfully light. I get in the bag, then put the pole up.

Thanks for sharing and giving us an insight into your setup & gear! Very much appreciated! I am curious about one "practical thing" during the event: Is your Garmin always on (also during stops/sleeping/etc.) or do you put it into stand by?
@jackdavis878611 ай бұрын
I believe he uses the solar garmin which last for ages, plus he has the dynamo for charging anything
@ChrisHallRides11 ай бұрын
I use a 1040 solar Garmin which lasts ages. I don’t think I actually charged it for the whole event! I actually stop and upload the ride when I stop to sleep. I don’t care if it’s separate files or anything. If you’re stopping for longer than a few hours just stop the ride, upload it and then restart when you ride again otherwise you risk it crashing for example
@platypushatstand11 ай бұрын
Which Exposure front light model is that? Were you using a dynamo system to power electrical devices: power bank, phone etc or were you using it for lighting?
@ChrisHallRides11 ай бұрын
It’s called the six pack. It’s brilliant. I used the Dynamo to charge (if needed) electricals and was also running a Dynamo light
@fotografamos408311 ай бұрын
Question about that son28 dynamo: does it hold up well in very rough terrain? I'm about to build a set of dynamo wheels for my gravel bike, which I use in very rough single track (borderline mountain bike territory) and I'm questioning if the system will need much maintenance.
@ChrisHallRides11 ай бұрын
I have never ever had any issues with a dynamo and mountainbiking with it. I've had one on the bike for things like the silk road mountain race and atlas mountain race too.

Another great video, Chris.Regarding luggage, when, and if at all, do you use fork bags? And if you do, what would those be,and what would go in there?
@ChrisHallRides11 ай бұрын
I don't often use fork bags but I have used Tailfin's options in the past. They do a suspension fork mounting system: www.tailfin.cc/category/cargo-cage-system/?v=79cba1185463 which you can use with their cargo packs. I would put light stuff in them such as clothing and sleep stuff. squidgy stuff

Do you have a recommendation for a Dynamo light? Thinking about getting a klite or Supernova m99 dy pro. What do you think? Greetz
@ChrisHallRides9 ай бұрын
I’ve used several. I didn’t like the flickering with the supernova at low speeds but it’s very bright. Klite is good and easy to set up but the mounts are a bit flimsy. The exposure one is another good option and the mounts are better quality
@MichaW949 ай бұрын
@@ChrisHallRides Thank you very much. I went for the M99 and it will be my first dynamo light ever. The set from the klite was a Bit more expensive and also it is hard to get some more Infos about the klite. So I hope That I won‘t be disappointed.

Hello, thank you for the video. What was the saddle manufacturer/ type?
Under what circumstances would you need a chain breaker AND quick-links? I’m sure there is; chain jams in the derailleur? But not so sure?
@ncc110711 ай бұрын
I almost lost a pin when using a chain breaker this weekend. If I hadn't found it, I probably would have had to use a quick link to put it back together.
@ChrisHallRides11 ай бұрын
Exactly this. I’ve had it happen before where the chain has snapped but not on a link, so the actual links around it all became bent too. It happened years ago in Girona when I was riding on the first edition eTap. I had to break the broken links out and use a few quick links to be able to then get home. Better to have both and not need them than have only one and need both in my opinion. They weigh nothing

Hello Chris, many thanks for the complete setup sharing, I have a question about the handle bar and stem used, I currently have a Megamo Factory 07 of 2022 , it's a Hardtail as well, but with standard flatbar. How did you come across the stem and handlebar combo? Did you do a bikefit or had access to trying it extensively before the event? Just wondering about how it would go to change it on my setup... i do have the SRAM XX1 electronic shifting, so the levers would most likely have to be SRAM. But do let me know about the change process and fitting, much appreciated.
@ChrisHallRides11 ай бұрын
I have been using this setup for probably 4 months before doing Badlands. Have a watch back on some of my previous videos from Sri Lanka for example which was the first trip I did with the bike, but I also used it out in Austria too. To accommodate the reach of the drop bars you will need to go with a shorter stem. I work closely with a bike fitter to work out exactly what would work best and I'd say that would be the best way to start if you want to do something similar.
