I recall playing this at a huge arcade in Dallas, I went broke fast.

Like the other guy from Dallas, I got hooked on this on an arcade in Fort Worth around 1985. It was the first of some storyline fantasy worlds. It was hugely cutting edge back then. Glad I got it out of my system then rather than play the more accessible home games. I was going to school and I could not afford neither the time nor the money, but I did play it quite a bit. I would like to take a vacation near a older restored arcade like you see in some of the shows on high score attempts. I would then take some time to get good at it again. It's kind of strange, I remember a lot of the later scenes than I do the earlier scenes because I think I got good enough just to go right through the earlier scenes. Wikipedia mentiond the "dark material" around this video game, and it really was back then hugely dark material. It is rather tame by today's standards.

I think I remember now. I think you could skip the earlier scenes.

On second thought, I'm probably better off for the mileage I put behind that game. Not to be negative on the product but I think it was "spirited" in a certain way. One learns about these things as one gets older That's all folks!

Seeing the replay of Badlands 26 years later takes me way back--and I giggle at the scenes of the outlaws getting shot by Buck. That game had an absurd sense of humour!! 😆😆😆🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

Every art film buff should watch this movie, EXACTLY as presented here, WITH NTSC test pattern at the end. This video is better than anything that 1920s French surrealism gave to us. Right up there with Un Chien Andalou.

Laserdisc arcade games pushed the limits
@rainkloud6 ай бұрын
Loved this game but was frustrated when the arcade owners upped the difficulty or when the game eventually broke and you'd be slamming the button but it wouldn't register. That artwork was to die for though. So classic and iconic!

Angry Video Game Nerd needs to review this game and it is definitely hilarious some of the cutscenes. However, this came out in the early 80s. I was 4 years old during the time, the was released on LaserDisc. This is such a classic game and really needs to be review. Animation is just amazing and I'm a fan of anime. Thank you very much for uploading a nostalgic game and wishing you a happy new year.

This was a few years before Castlevania and all the other gems Konami gave us. But wow, this game is truly something special. Its like Dragon's Lair, Time Gal, and Road Blaster.

The only arcade game that had a single button. That's it. No gun, no joystick - just a single large button. And why would a cowboy suddenly be surrounded by Dinosaurs? BECAUSE JAPAN THAT'S WHY!
@smbhax200010 ай бұрын
Namco's "Star Trigon" also used just a single button as its whole control scheme--that was a lot later, though.

For anyone wondering, the repeated death scenes are there so the disk didnt have to seek too far to play it. I guess they expected people to die..... a lot. :D
@devnull73 Жыл бұрын
Although I do wonder why they mirrored scenes - the circuitry to flip a scene cant be too complex.
@doorknobs2369 Жыл бұрын
@@devnull73 It would be supremely complex for hardware of that era. Laserdisc video is an FM analog signal, and it sends this signal more or less directly to the electron gun. There's no video memory or anything like that to do a horizontal flip.

I wonder who did the anime sequences, but it does look kinda like Telecom Animation Film’s style. The animation kind of reminds me of “The Littles.” Probably because of similar art styles.

Everything is so insanely random. What are the cues to shoot vs move? I don;t thing he ever moves...he just shoots everything.

The game is not like this when you are playing. In this video, you just see every sequence recorded for the game : when you loose, and when you win. So this video is random, but not the game actually.
